"The Guilty" - 1/7 - (1992 - British TV) - Dir.: Colin Gregg - Michael Kitchen, Sean Gallagher, Caroline Catz, Carol Starks, Lee Ross, Andrew Tiernan, Eleanor David and Peter Blythe.
I loved this series when it came out on the TV and now really enjoying it all over again. Fabulous acting and great suspense; one of my favourite dramas of all time.
After watching Foyles War over and over again it is difficult for me to imagine Michael Kitchen being a B++tard and pulling it of so wonderfully.Great, great quiet and gentle actor.
No, Michael Kitchen is not cheap. Quite the opposite. A rather quiet genius & star (nothing divo about him). All he does is top quality, whether he plays the villain or the hero. He is always trenchant, memorable. Thrilled to see him in this film.
The trouble with Micheal Kitchen is that he is that rare breed without ego and 'seeking fame mentality', he is exacting and professional , and mostly missed by the gullible majority that just want, in Mr Cohen's words; bubblegum..
First class storyline and acting. There is nothing that I can find to criticise. A very unusual tightly drawn story which appeared to go in several directions, but ended up making sense. I really enjoyed the ending. Thank you for the upload which I found purely by chance. Hence I have subscribed.
Shame the dialogue is so faint. Luckily I have an amplfier. But thank you, love these classic uploads, real lifesavers in these strange times. I must say, after just having watched Michael K. as a murderer in Dandelion Dead it’s a bit of a mental leap to see him here as defending counsel in court.
I have external speakers and I still have a difficult time with hearing the dialogue. Why don't people turn the volume up when they record? It's just ridiculous not to.
Thank you so much for uploading this ! Great acting from Michael Kitchen. Am watching on my ipad and even with the volume at under three quarters, the dialogue is clear and is loud enough. The few complaints on here are baffling.
@genny9026 - Genny: Thank you so much for your very gracious comment. So, you see "those" comments, ay? They do get a tad annoying, lol, but nice to know they're just a fraction of the lovely comments like yours. Glad you enjoyed the movie.
Fine British cinema! With fine British actors. (Sometimes I ask myself "Is there any other kind?") Many thanks for the upload. PS: NO problem w Volume whatsoever.
john wells John: As on all my uploads, volume is always a problem. This explanation is from another of my pages: "As for low volume....yes, I AM AWARE, and it's a problem that I simply don't have the tech savvy to fix. Is that clear enough!!?? However, if you hook up a pair of speakers, ((I use Insignia NS-3006), volume can be controlled from them. That's what I do with no problems on my end. Very low-tech, but it works." (Right now, the volume via my speakers is actually a bit high.)
john wells Very welcome John. I'm probably even more low-tech than you, and wish I could fix the volume thing. But I appreciate your courteous response, and glad you're enjoying my uploads. Cheers.
john wells BTW John, the "is that clear enough" part was not for you, and I THOUGHT I deleted it before I posted it - (embarrassed look on face). It was really for those discourteous boors and trolls you populate Y.T. - again, cheers.
john wells Oh Jeez: these typos are killers. I meant to type ".....boors and trolls WHO populate Y.T....", not "trolls YOU populate". Pleeeeeze forgive me.
Thanks for the uploads! Watched it all and it's damn good. It's got a fine 7 out of 10 on IMDB and is the original version of 1992. A 2000 film was also made. But that was excellent stuff.
Hexsella Anything w Michael Kitchen in it usually gets a 9 or 10 from me. But I might be prejudiced having never seen him do a middle to lousy job of acting. Only the finest.
Michael Kitchen so loves playing a twisted bastard. And we can't help loving him for it. NB: His Foyle's War is a pleasant contrast, demonstrating he can play complex sympathetic men as well.
@Jim Clark - Oh, what a knee-slapper, and so VERY original. How sick and tired I am of replying to ill-mannered cretins like you - with NO UPLOADS OF YOUR OWN. If and when you start uploading, then you MAY have the right to criticize the quality of the uploads of others. But, I'll refund you for the money you spent - and wasted, watching this. Finally, something I've copied and pasted for morons like you: "As on all my uploads, volume is always a problem. This explanation is from another of my pages: "As for low volume....yes, I AM AWARE, and it's a problem that I simply don't have the tech savvy to fix. Is that clear enough!!??" Have a good day, Jimbo.
@Sean Downes - "No volume!" Seriously? I can understand "LOW" volume, but "NO" volume!!?? As for Low volume, get a set of good speakers, which I have. I have no problem on my end. And.....if you're at all interested, check my "About" tab. And Sean - just a thought: those who have no uploads of their own, and who haven't paid a penny to watch any YT video, are really in no position to question the quality of another's upload!!
That head tilt at 6:13, HOW does he do it? I wouldn't be able to repeat it even if I practised a thousand times. :D very sexy Michael Kitchen, grrrr... Overall, it is a great film, I was glued to it like other commenters, the movie shows life in all its colours, not a single character is black or white, not even Stephen Vey, although if I was directing it, I would have asked M. K. to tone down the likeability just a notch. But maybe that was the whole idea?? I feel I need to watch it again to understand better how he found it in him to order Nicky to be killed.
Detskiy Kanal It isn’t MK who made the likability of his character. It is written thusly. Yet it takes an actor of his genius to depict such a despicable man as a full human being, w both good, if seemingly few, traits as well as bad. The script is ingenious for this & other reasons, to my mind.
@@mckavitt YES! The whole reason series like this are so captivating is because they are true to life! People aren't black and white. You can say someone is a bad person and still find enough humanity in their complex makeup to see that they aren't only that thing they have done that is bad. Most shows today are not nuanced or complicated, just made with predictable garbage to satisfy the basest parts of our natures. It is what so many political narratives are based on today, simplifying a human into something that has nothing to do with humanity let alone reality to feed the beast that embodies an ignoble culture. "All _______ are _______" Fill in the blanks, you needn't imagine too rigorously! So many have fallen prey to these gutless, biased fallible ideas; trashy, unimaginative entertainment must be at least in part to blame for this. To create a fascinating, intelligent show that represents people instead of politics today would be impossible. One would be "cancelled" immediately and called God knows what. "Who steals my purse steals trash", indeed!
@get in: 1) Read my "About" tab 2) The cost of your speakers is NOT MY GD PROBLEM!!! 3) When you take the time and trouble to upload videos of your own, even THEN you don't have any right to be so fucking discourteous and rude!!! 4) You didn't pay a cent to watch my video, or any other YT video for that matter, and.....5) Go fuck yourself!!! I don't need your shit coming onto MY videos and making abusive and rude comments. Don't EVER come onto my videos in the future, jackass, which I don't expect!
+Thaisleeze Yeah "Thaisleeze - it might be - and instead of posting gratuitously smart-assed comments - unlike the gracious comments of others - you might have READ MY PROFILE for an explanation as to the low volume. Oh, and you're blocked and muted. So fuck off!!!
Very well-acted. Why are all the British actors so short in height and so tall in acting ability? Maybe USA actors should be shorter to become better actors.
Barb you are funny. That was a good chuckle, but you're right it seems good American actors are far and few in between. Although for awhile we had some great ones, Newman, Redford, Dryfuss, Hoffman, Dustin, etc.
i am sorry, the young lady was so pointedly provocative and insinuating -- how can this reflect things that happen which really qualify as acquaintance rape?
Hey Pal: 1) Read my "About" tab for the explanation of the volume level; 2)your shit comment, I'm happy to say, constitutes about .0005% of all the comments on my page, which are courteous and appreciative; 3) I LOVE your page and your uploads; 4) How much did you pay to watch my video? 5) I have 2.44K subs, you have 9; and 6) Piss off, you cretinous fool.
@xmas eveeve: "Go back to your herd"??!! Maybe you should retire to the sewer where you were most certainly born and bred. You're an A-1 POS, with the brains of a retarded frog, and the charm, breeding and class of an unflushed toilet. Odd that someone with your level of nasty obnoxiousness pick the name "xmas eveeve" - oh, how cutesy - the birth of Jesus, to represent your page. You're a bloody joke. Fuck off, Ass Clown.
patricia S Oh, dear. Did you bother to watch it straight through, feeling that way or was it doing that that led you to this disappointed conclusion? I think it's pretty damn good.
patricia S I bet you don't know MK ... I have no other excuse for your comment my dear... obviously I am not watching it as a film ...I am seeing it one of MKs performance ...totally different
