My K31 is a 1953 version, too. Great rifle. It came from Simpsons Ltd. That was how I learned about Schmidt Rubins.. which lead me to owning G96/11 and G11. All great rifles.
I recently got a K31. Was at a gunshow and walked away from one gun to ultimately buy the k31 at the other table. My friend owns one and it's awesome! He got into them just having seen em around. When I shot it I thought it was pretty cool. But then we shot jp11 thru it and it was even better!😎 I actually told my buddy, who has the k31, that the next gun I wanted was a k31. I had no idea if I'd be right or not hahaha! But it was at a table of a gentleman I see at every gunshow I go to. I picked it up and it was great, all matching, a little bit if water damage. And it had a name etched into the hand Grove on the right side. It says "MALOU". It's not the solders name either. My rifle came with a troop card and it was a different name on the card. I looked up the name MALOU, it has many variations but it's a French name so maybe it was just a nickname the solider liked or... idk to be honest. I thought it was a really cool detail that was on the gun (along with the unfortunately deteriorated gun club sticker from Switzerland). The bore is perfect on it. It was made in 1948. Can't wait to shoot it I the spring.
Oh nice another Gunboards member! I had a couple K31s go through my hands. I think they both may be on my channel from years back. I reblued a pitted and rusty barrel on one. That had a troop tag. I ended up trying to call this guy on the tag in Switzerland. Got through to his son. Well exactly one year later I had forgotten about it, and called again. The guy answered, spoke perfect English. I sent him some pics, and he said it sure was his rifle. Was surprised to hear from me and see the troop tag. He inquired to the place he turned it in to and they were held for a while from the time he turned it in til they were imported in the 90s to the US. But was really cool to be able to reach out to the original owner and get some provenance with it. Awesome straight pull rifles. One of the best shooting milsurps you can get!
Gotta love the K31 ❤️ The one I have is covered in Schutzenfest stickers from the 70s and 80s. Contacted the surviving family of the troop tag's owner and he was a prolific match shooter in his later years. :) The rifle certainly reflects that
I just really enjoy this series Mike. This video is very timely. I aquired a k31 a couple years ago but I never shot gp11 out of it. I didnt want to open the only 60 round pack I had since its all but dried up these days. Just last week I found a 480 round case that has an open pack at a local gun shop. I was excited to go shoot some when it gets warmer but after watching this video, now Im going to make the old snow trudge to the back 40. The nice gentleman who sold me the ammo ordered it for a friend who passed away suddenly before it arrived 15 years ago and he only wanted what he had into it. It was sitting there hidden on a shelf for years and apparently I was the only one who recognized that black box was swiss ammo.
Hey Mike, quick question for a Noob. On the 88/05 commission rifles, are the prvi partizan 198 grain cartridges safe to fire out of them. I had gotten some 154 grain Romanian surplus and each time they took two primer strikes(and gave me a heart attack). To fire. I fired 3 and Gave up with it. The firing pin and spring are good just ammo shit, Same thing with a buddies 37 dated 98
I have a 1943 K31 with the diopter sights and love shooting it. Mine had a walnut stock with a few dents and digs but nothing too major. Also, I reload 7.5x55 swiss, so never shot GP11 ammo.
