Ha ha. Though Americans have generally a fun reaction to salty licorice the most extreme one is actually from a french guy. A friend of mine worked in an international office (I don't remember what country) where people from various nationalities worked. They all put candy and snacks from their homecountries on a communal table in the break room for everyone to eat from during the work day. My friend, being swedish, put a small bowl of 'djungelvrål' among the other candy and snacks. Later she heard an enraged howl from the break room where a french guy had apparently grabbed a few and chomped down... he was not amused and demanded it be removed. To him, salt on candy was equal to child abuse.

I'm Swedish having lived in France, and you do run across one or two patronizing speeches there on how to make "proper" food and what style goes where. To demand to control on what parts goes onto a mixed international candy table is so humble. With that said, you should probably put a warning label on the djungelvrål. Those are real sweet in taste btw, once the early salt shock fades.

Salty licorice is quite popular in Sweden and Finland, I like it a lot. The ultimate power move is tricking foreigners into trying Tyrkisk Peber(turkisk peppar/turkish pepper) lol. You get both the ammonium chloride and spice, they taste pretty much like a punch to the face even when you like them. Läkerol is something you'd usually have to clear up your airways if you're a bit stuffy, or to counter bad breath. They're basically candy cough drops, which is why you usually don't down the entire bag at once(some of them are really delicious though, hard to stay away lol).

I have also thought of Läkerol as throat lozenges, but when I googled some before I thought I would post this. I found that Läkerol tries to go for throat lozenges, breath mints and chewing gum which aims to be good for your teeth.

I did love salty (salmiak) licorice already as a kid! You need to be a bit careful with it, though. Too much is really unhealthy for you. Licorice gives you high blood pressure, and the salt is kind of corrosive for your teeth and gum. The YUP ones are sugar free and from a classic "throat candy" company, and not my first choice for salty licorice candy. I do enjoy them too, though. The Dumle company, Fazer, is actually Finnish, but it's a popular brand and they sell a lot in Sweden. I LOVE the Hockey Puck candy (salmiak powder!). I think it's supposed to be eaten as you did with the finger, but when I buy it (as a grown up) I use a tea spoon. 😅

That was funny. There's a RU-vid channel of a New Zealand family that taste American foods that are sent to them from Americans who watch the show and they rate them too. Shows how different cultures can have different palates. All in good fun.

Djungelvrål is life. You should try it. The "salt" is nitric acid and amonia. When you boil away the water, that's what's left. I did that "salt" in chemestry class.

Hey, look at that. You are finally back in my recommendations. Oh, and from just reading the title: No, we are not weird. Your faces are weird! Our candy is amazing, or else! Update1 Talking about food like that is a proper dad-move. Update2 These guys are fun to watch. Update3 Hockeypuck on drink rims. I feel I should have thought of that years ago. Imma gonna steal that. Update4 Läckerol is horrible. Only real men eat it, because there is nothing else that frightens them in life. So, only old men. You need to have your senses dulled not to spit it out. Good video. 9.4

I usually take a whole bag of Yups and eat it in one bite, it's not bad, but i prefer to take a full bag of Djungelvrål, if i take 1-2 pieces like normal i feel nothing.

The red, sour candy is called "Hallonshots" in sweden and comes in blueberry aswell i believe. :) The "saltlakrits" you had was both vegan and sugarfree, which normally means worse taste in my experience. "Djungelvrål" is definetly the superior one! Great video with fun guests! Intresting that you tried out some "special editions" from great brands, but the originals are to me much better! I hope you come back to sweden soon too convince "migrationsverket" that you belong in this country;)

The salt on Djungelvrål is great, but the sweet licorice candy beneath it is a bit hard to chew and gets stuck in the teeth. In my opinion, of course. :)
