Aussie here, living in Mindanao Philippines. There is a version of the GWM Cannon sold here, called the Cannon Pilot. It's the "base" model, but has all of the stuff you usually only find on higher spec vehicles. It comes with a six speed manual transmission, and can be either AWD like yours, or 4x2. It also has four wheel disc brakes, hill start assist, hill descent control, front and rear fog lights, kerbside and rear camera, leather upholstery, the infotainment system same as yours, climate control aircon, driver, passenger and side curtain airbags, and apparently also a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and "early warning system", which I think means one of those warning triangles that you can deploy behind the car if you break down. The 4x2 version costs 1,048,000 Philippine pesos, which is a little over $25,000 AUD. The AWD version costs 1,148,000 Philippine pesos, which makes it about $27,500 AUD. We say here in Mindanao Cebuano "Barato na!" ('It's affordable!"). The Cannon Pilot comes with 17" alloy wheels. The Ford Ranger XL costs 1,249,000 Philippine pesos, has less equipment, fabric seats, no reverse camera, no fog lights, and rides on 16" steel wheels. I've seen RU-vid videos of people driving the GWM Cannon on riverbeds and up rugged tracks in remote areas of the Philippines, and the off-road performance is outstanding. I don't currently have a driver's licence here, or the funds at present to buy one, but as soon as I do, I will. My wife has a farm, around 45 minutes drive from our house here, and the AWD version of the GWM Cannon Pilot would be ideal both for family transport and for carrying farm related items. Filipinos also have a bias towards Japanese brands, and the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux are the top selling pickup trucks here. I see a lot of Isuzu D-MAX and Mitsubishi Strada/Triton as well. I've seen comments by Filipinos on local RU-vid videos that the GWM Cannon has good reviews online in Australia. Like you, I never thought I'd see the day when I'd consider a GWM vehicle. I remember how basic and rough they were years ago when they first sold their utes in Australia. People only bought them because they were cheap. I remember in my old hometown, the GWM dealership was right next door to the Toyota dealership. Funny thing is, I understand that it's the same here in Cagayan de Oro City Mindanao. Daghang salamat kanimo alang sa imong video! (Thank you very much for your video!).

@@olderisoptional6650 Currently I have the 2023 Cannon X with 8 forward gears 2L turbo engine. The 2024 Ultra diesel 2.4 I'm about to head into comes with 9 speed forward gears, rear and front diff lock, and anything you can poke a stick at. Enjoy your vehicle.

It's very hard for our age group to make the change when you've grown up buying Australian but with how Toyota and Ford just out pricing themselves it now makes sence to look at all the options. We ended up with a new Paj Sport Exceed and been really happy, did Tassie for a month was a dream. Great look at this GWM.

Remember that it was General Motor, an American corporation that shut down Holden, now they continue to raise the price of their cars as well as allies', milking Australians with their hard-earned money. I'm glad that the Australian government didn't impose heavy taxes on Chinese cars like the UK and allowing somewhat free competition. Time will speak for GWM as Japanese brands are struggling to compete in the Chinese market, Mitsubishi already exited last year because they couldn't handle the heat.

My current model hilux does more than 1 DPF burn per tank. Drives me crazy. Great review 👍

Hi mate, thanks so much for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it. We drove to Yeppoon the other day and in one tank it did 3 dpf burns, 🥵. Very annoying

Sounds like the familar dpf burn dinging in the background lol. One burn per tank of 800km is great really, you realise that the other bramds like toyota do a dpf burn every 400km or 2 or 3 times per tank. I did one on the hwy yesterday in 10min but driving around the city at less them 70km most the time i only ever have a burn once or twice per tank. Thanks for thw review i love my cannon and got 19k on the clock now and its a great car to drive for a roadtrip.

Yep been there done that am still finding new features and I am a happy chaps with my Cannon experiences. Like it or lump it, reminds me of the BMW's I've owned, over the years, there were always features to discover. Love it. I've owned several Cannons, Steed 2020, Cannon 4x2 2022, Haval Hybrid 2022, and now my latest is a 2023 Cannon X diesel 4x4 since November 2023 and yep, I'm till finding and discovering features. No drama with DPF. Just need to understand Learn about DPF, problem solved. Learn about how to use the drives and you can easily over come the lag. Sport is good when pulling into traffic. There's a lot to get your head around but once you do its a breeze at age 69 oops lol. I will be trading in me 2023 cannon for a Cannon 2024 4x4 2.4L Alpha Ultra Diesel. Woah, with my age and stage in life I intend to treat myself and live life with my grand children and the dog, woo-hoo. Lets go. Oh and I love the 60-40 tail gate that comes with the Ultra. My dog and me be able to clammer on off with ease whoop whoop, enjoy the experience just do it...

If it goes into limp mode, you can use the flipper on the steering wheel to manual gear change - once I worked that out it is less of a hassle.

Towing at 110 or 120kms is illegal in australia so probably shouldn't be doing that. Outside of that great video. Very informative. Thanks mate.
