Jelem Jelem NO gypsy folk song. "Djelem Djelem" The International Gypsy Hymn was composed by Serbian Romani musician Zarko Jovanovic Jagdino (born in Batajnica, Belgrade, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, 6 December 1925 - died in Paris, 24 March 1985) from a popular Gypsy song from the Eastern Europe countries. Its lines are inspired on the Gypsies who were confined in Nazi concentration camps during the Second World War. It was officially adopted as their hymn at the First Gypsy Congress, held in London in 1971. He moved to Paris on February 21, 1964. Jovanović was known as Romani activist. He participated on two Romani Congresses, one in 1971 near London and other in 1978 in Geneve. On the Second Roma Congress he was named Romani Culture Minister. Orginal song "Djelem Djelem" sing Olivera Katarina in Yugoslav movie "I Even Met Happy Gypsies" by Serbian director Aleksandar Petrović. Its original Serbian title is "Skupljači perja". At the 1967 Cannes Film Festival film was nominated for the Palme d'Or and won the Special Grand Prize of the Jury and the FIPRESCI Prize. The film was nominated for the 1967 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (event in April 1968)and for the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
