Hello, I live in eastern NC, USA, and find it interesting that many names on that list are surnames of people in my home community. Waters, Smith, Hunt, Roberts, Wilson, Crabtree, Hudson, Clegg, oand probably the unknown stranger too! Small world.
This was interesting. The problem of the gibbet over the guillotine is holding the prisoner steady so the blade woukd make a clean cut. There must have been a lot of botched jobs done.
The main difference between the two is that the angled blade of a guillotine is designed to slice like a knife, whereas the gibbet is basically a mechanical axe which chops. I think that there would have been far fewer botched executions with the gibbet than with a handheld axe as the place where the blade landed was much more predictable. Even the most skilled executioners would sometimes strike the skull or shoulders of their victim, rather than the neck.
I try to cater for ALL readers & viewers with a speed thats not too fast or too slow. It’s easier for fast readers to wait a few seconds than it is for a slower reader to pause, rewind and play again throughout the whole video. This way people can enjoy the videos unrushed.
