Awesome culverts/tunnels! Thanks for walking through them and letting us see the amazing craftsmanship. Not sure I'd be able to reach them. I'm short so hiking down steep inclines is sometimes literally done on my butt. Then there's the problem of getting back up said inclines. Gets kinda comical at times. 😂
I live right in this area. At the library in Lancaster, I read that they brought in Italian stone masons specifically for the stonework on the lower and upper rail, there were some really cool photos of the men building the RR and bridges!
Has nothing to do with the cool site you were at but when I first saw "The Hall Of The Mountain King" it immediately brought to mind an old Savatage song that I hadn't heard in years lol. Thanks for that AND the cool views in this video :D

Amazing Cliff!! Loved all the tunnels. I think the one with the drop off & the 2 little twin tunnels are my faves!! Thank you for taking me through the 2 smaller ones not quite sure I could have walked through those by myself. Loved all the stone brick work, & the lil waterfalls inside. If you get a chance check out the Muddy Run culvert to the south. It's steep, old school construction with waterfalls and cascades for about 75 feet. Some cool calcite formations coming out of the masonry too.
AT LEAST NO KIDS FOUND THE TUNNEL FOR SPPRAY PAINTING WHICH IS NICE. BEAUTIFUL STONE. WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A HOUSE OUT OF TTHAT STONE. GRREAT FIND. YES I LIKED THE FIEST ONE, BUT REALLY THEY ALL ARE GREAT. GREAT DESIGN ON THE TUNNELS.
That was sooo fantastic. Those tunnels were all fantastic the stone and brickwork was stupendous. Loved all tunnels but that last one is my fave. It’s true it is very much like the mines of Moria. My fave book. Thank you so much for taking me along and please stay safe and take care
The Safe Harbor Dam is an amazing site to see. The video doesn't do it justice on how big it is. I highly recommend anyone who has time to visit that area.
Great video, Cliff. Thanks for sharing. All of the tunnels were nice but I also like the last one the most. The masonry is so impressive. It looks in near perfect shape after many years. My one grandfather and his father were masons. The trail is inviting with its good condition and spectacular views of the mountains and river. It looks like waterproof shoes or boots are a necessity for going through the tunnels. We'll check the trail out at some point. Have a great Christmas.

Interesting place to visit these culverts, I agree with you the first and forth were the best. The stone and brick construction reminds me of ancient castles from a old novel. Thank you
Hi Cliff, my favourite was the second one because of the drop and the waterfall plus just the whole look of it. I thought the lighting was okay, we could see all of the features in the brick/stonework and also the path through so don't worry it was fine. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx💖
You brought back memories of seeing trains on the low Grade as a kid in the 50s. The area along the Susquehanna in So. Lanc Co is known as the river hills. Use to take a ride in late Oct from my home in Perryville Md up the east side of the river to Columbia and cross over to York Co and come back down the west side of the river. A good view of the river is at the Pinnacle north of Holtwood Dam.

Numbers on top direct you to the certain number, which needs cleaning, repairs or unblocked. Many people were drowned unblocking them either during or after a rainstorm,.
Cant wait til they finally connect both parts of the Enola Low Grade Trail they finally got some financial support from some businesses and the Lancaster Conservancy as well as a grant from the State it should be done in the next year or 2 depending on Covid19 Im sorry but I wished they would have caught the thoughtless person that burned the deck of the other one I was planning on riding that section a week or 2 later im glad they are putting a concrete deck n this one and they trying to secure more funding to restore the other one too
I hope to find out which I like best in person when I'm back in PA this summer, I've seen videos and read about the tunnels, but this video gives the best information on how to find the trail. Thanks. Incidentally I have been chased off live tracks twice already. Do I know it's trespassing and against the law? Yes. Would I do it again? I don't know. I also loved to see the light of day at the end of a caving expedition.
I am surprised at how clean the tunnels are. I would have thought they might be filled with debris from heavy rains. Very interesting. I most likely would not have done the first set. A bit too small and close for me :>).
Great vid as usual Cliff!! Should have shown end of 3rd one. 4th one very cool.1st one my fave. 2nd one was unusual. You should see how much water runs through these after a heavy rain. Pay attention to the echo...i went through a stone culvert in Ashland and half way through i noticed no echo and the rocks had big gaps between them. Scarry stuff!! B safe!😁👍
Be careful going in caves and underground structures, etc. There may be bat drippings in there that can cause fatal respiratory illness. If you must explore these areas, use as respirator-type mask. A friend's father went spelunking and contracted a rare respiratory illness from bat droppings. He was comatose ad nearly dead before a doctors on a hunch asked the family if he had been in any caves recently. When it was confirmed, then they were able to give him treatment for the presence of those droppings that were destroying his lungs. But because this is rare and doctors don't see these types of illnesses often, one could die before doctors figure out what is happening.
Hey Cliff if you go to Pequea on Martic Forge Rd to the red hill rd parking lot of the enola low grade and hike south toward quarryville about a quarter mile there are on the right you will see a stream and if you look over you will see some railroad ties there are another set of twin culverts but I must warn you im 5'6" and I had to do a lot of stooping in those too this infor is also on UnchartedLancaster sie
excellent exploration video...same tunnel building techniques & materials as the imploded Williamstown Tunnel & mine drainage main tunnels (Big Lick, Bear Gap, Jeddo (near Hazelton), etc; the constant toxic acid drainage from mine tunnels & boreholes leaves a nasty scar on the land...sorry, personal rant

Sounds like something I’d do. Forget to charge up a light or some other battery. Going through old passageways or tunnels is a little unnerving for me. I’ve only done it a handful of times. Just something about it
What would be the advantage of having two tunnels, rather than one larger one? It seems it would have been more work and more materials to make the double culvert. I did like that first one best. I was very close to that not long ago, but didn't know it was there.
Watch out NOTHING jumps out at you like a raccoon . Now that sounds like a natural spring water just be safe and careful ok wow a little bit loud with water in it wow a babbling brooke
