Ha. I rewatched the scene after seeing your comment & realize it wasn't really a knock on Malk as much as some of the guy fans who champion him. I must have felt so called out when I saw this at the cinema that I projected the negativity onto Malk. So the joke was deserved & it landed!

@@billystinker As someone that has recorded and produced many bands, this doesn't sound cohesive. Why are you interpretting that as a joke? The solo and vocals are COMPLETELY disconnected from the rest of the band. It sounds very amateur demo in my opinion.

@@fleshtonegolemI don’t know if you know the work of malkmus and pavement. They come from the 90s and their approach is minimum production no protools on the drums and a live take approach. Sounds that jar and disconnect slightly discordant but melodic. The looser sound is part of what they do. Captain beef heart from the 70s took this to an even more extreme approach. I get what you’re saying it’s not very slick but it’s not meant to be.

@@riffraffrichard I have recorded a ton of bands live. I don't think the vocals were live, and if they were, they should have redone them. It's just out of time and not musical. The solo and vox are fighting the rest of the song. I would have never released this as my first track given how jarring this is to most people. You don't need to polish things endlessly. I love raw recordings. But this is SLOPPY. big difference. That is before I pick apart the mix. The drums are BURIED.
