@@avwholesomegamer I have super sensitive feet. I bought some Red Wing boots a couple years ago. They have no break in period. They feel like slippers. I think they were a little over $200 but worth every penny.
Honestly, I hope not. I hope CAT power tools are nice. Mostly because I want DeWalt to get it together, and light a fire under their asses to get their battery tech advanced. Power stack batteries are just way too expensive and they aren't special. Flex Tools has stacked lithium and they cost almost half of what DeWalt does and they go all the way up to 10ah. I'm all for CAT power tools and I do hope they make good tools. I also hope the graphene battery tech works well because I want graphene batteries to become mainstream to get away from lithium.
Back in the early 2000s or so one of Worx best products was a circular saw. It just happened to fit on the Festool tracksaw tracks and they weren't around long as it was rumored they were sued by Festool because of it and had to pull them off the market. Even if these other tool companies make a equal or better pro level tool it's a hard sell with the massive amount of competition in the market and the fans that will never switch brands and will talk down other brands just because it isn't their brand.
@@davidbolduc828 yeah, it kinda sucks. It'd be great if they did it like in Europe with phone chargers, where they all have to be usb-c. So a single standard for battery physical connection, protocols, and voltage ranges, a sort of "USB for batteries", would be great. Yes, it would somewhat limit diversity, but only minimally. Then the manufacturers would still be able to compete based on the performance and features of the actual tools. If properly laid out, it could allow for multiple voltages, and future development of battery tech, just like USB did for computer periphery. Wet dreams. Now, if you want to buy tools that you really like, not just those you're vendor-locked into by previous choices, it's a big problem. I have Bosch 12v, 18v, Ryobi 18v, 36v, aeg/Ridgid 18v, Dremel, Stihl 12v, Makita 18v, Gardena and a couple more. It's a real zoo, and I wouldn't be able to afford it if I were a pro and would need to (a) have lots of batteries and (b) mobility.
Tools tested took apart the graphene battery and tested them already and that 5ah graphene battery is huge compared to other 5ah batteries but they do charge fast.

Well, I've always disagreed with the "pro", "diy", and such grading of tools. I've used practically every brand out there it feels like and it's not really like that. I use a "heavy duty", "Mid-duty", and "light-duty" scale instead because you have professionals using tools in situations where "heavy duty" (what you might call "Pro grade" is not needed and may be too much since most of the reviewers who use that system are mostly concerned with "more power". Personally, I find the Worx Nitro lineup to be a very good "Mid-duty" tool. They are sturdy, good feel in use, durable. I'm looking forward to testing the Cat brand and see how they pan out on the scale I use.
Agreed. Don't use a sledge hammer to hang a picture. I find Ridgid to have good quality tools for home and a bit above. I used them in industry but its a little work intensive for me buying my own tools. I would rather step up one notch to quality heavy duty makita/dewalt/milwaukee from medium heavy top of their line brands to last a bit longer. And of course no matter the brand they have good tools and bad tools. Just because this ones drill is great doesn't mean their router will be as well.
I bet the 5.0 graphene battery is really a 6.0 battery that only charges up to 80% that way it can “ fully charge “ in 20 minutes as it claims. The footprint of the 5.0 battery looks very big

You can buy CAT tools at my local Home Hardware store. They’re very very expensive though, better off sticking with tried and true DeWalt , Milwaukee, or Makita.
Strong disagree with recommending Dewalt. Switched to them 6 months ago without reading their warranty. Now I gotta dump everything at a loss to switch again.
For 50 years plus or minus a couple years Cat had there name on torque wrenches and torque multipliers. At least the ones in early 70s they were made by the same people that built the proto ones
The B+D professional and industrial line was rebranded to DeWalt in the Mid 90s. Many of the early DeWalt tools are the exact same tool just with yellow plastics instead of the industrial grey.
Pretty much everyone except makita and maybe Bosch (I don’t know much in depth about Bosch batteries) under promise and over deliver. Makita specifically stays away from grandiose claims and their batteries frequently over deliver on their promises.
Good information! Although you should know that graphene is a sheet-based material, kinda like a single layer of graphite. I think that's the definition of graphene actually. There is a Japanese company named *Power Japan Plus* that produces power cells with carbon anodes *_and_* cathodes, and they're making some really big claims with their products (I wish those were mainstream...). That's different. Graphene is inherently flat. So that's probably the reason why it's only layered on there.

It's still sad to see that we have no universal batteries for tools. Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ryobi have their proprietary designs. And lets not start getting into their 4v, 12, 18, 20, 22 and so on. But at least Ryobi has been consistent. Sure the battery pack is not pretty and takes up a few millimeters at the handle. But has any one really improved on the concept? Sure the tool changes and some do get more powerful, but the batteries keep staying the same.
And they'll keep doing that unless regulated. I hate excessive state regulation, but this is one area where there light to be some, like the European regulation on the phone charger port compatibility.
Makita is basically the last real tool owned and designed tool by the original company. Mostly made in China but not the tools in japan that cost an arm and a leg.
Based on the descriptions of the CAT tools from their website, I do Not see any indication they’re using anti-vibration, anti-kickback technologies which Milwaukee, Makita and others are using. Sad. Just slapping their name on something. I’ll stick with the brands who care.
Interviewing at CAT in a couple of weeks, and if I get hired, I won't be buying their power tools. I'll stick to Dewalt. However, I'm more interested to seeing the employee discounts on their hand tools if I get in. I'm interested to see what they have Made in the USA. I'm tired of Asian tools, unless they're Japan. ✌️
Several smartphone companies have been working with graphine batteries for a couple years now. They're still very expensive so not viable for the market until manufacturing processes improve

It is pretty ridiculous that they were able to trademark “Graphene Battery” when there’s isn’t even a true graphene battery. It’s crazy to say that others can’t call their true graphene batteries that when/if they do arrive.
Positec can make Cat into a top tier brand if they choose to. They have the capability to do so but it depends on which route they choose to take. The market is flooded with diy and lower end prosumer tools and we don't need anymore.
A recent video on the channel "Tools Tested" did some testing on a CAT graphene battery, and I did bring up this question (true graphene, graphene cathode, or just a marketing sprinkle of graphene on top like magic pixie dust), and there was some discussion about this with no one really knowing the answer.
CAT sent me the cordless hammer drill and 1/4” impact and they are pretty awesome. I’m testing them for the company and I’ve been using them here at work. I work industrial maintenance and they are holding up great. They feel great and have some good power. They do charge really fast. I would attest to the 3x faster argument they are stating. I can’t give my opinion on how long the battery lasts or holds up as I haven’t got that far yet but so far this is one heck of an awesome set. They come in one of the nicest cases I’ve seen yet.
Yes, but when compared objectively (with measuring equipment) they do not measure up to, say, Milwaukee. It's just more or less decent Chinese tools with the brand licensed to them. Right now they're marketed aggressively in Russia (as they're cheaper than decent brands like Bosch, Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee which have been priced out of reach for most by the nosediving economy, or not easily obtainable due to trade restrictions). However, when you look at the actual reviews from the customers, many are disappointed after some time.
Pretty much what was said above. They're a decent "mid-range" brand that for medium duty work, not that far off from Makita or equivalent. Not something of a true workhorse equipment, such as AEG by comparison. I've been running my set of CAT drills, angle grinder, etc for around 11 months as an electrician and find them barely strong enough.
@@williescraftscorner1467 I take back what I said. The drill driver is junk. Not enough torque. It doesn’t matter what the setting is it doesn’t want to drill through anything. Impact is still great.

Here's my take: Milwaukee and DeWalt dominate the pro-level cordless tools. Makita, Bosch, and Hilti (and maybe Flex?) are also in the mix. If I'm already a pro, there is nothing compelling with Cat that would make me want to switch. If I'm new to the trades, there isn't nearly enough under the Cat brand to compel me to start with them over everyone else. These late-to-the-game tool brands really have to blow everything else out of the water if they want to really make a dent. They need to realize that nobody ever got fired for showing up on a job site with Milwaukee or DeWalt (or Makita or Bosch). If one of the big boys' tools breaks on a job site then nobody is going to think any less of the person who bought that tool. Show up with one of these Cat tools and have it fail and you'll be the laughing stock of the crew. If you're going to try to break into the tool market you better have a complete set of high quality tools at a very compelling price. This is especially true when you have Milwaukee and DeWalt at the top end and Ryobi at the homeowner end. Those three are going to be tough to steal any marketshare from.
Makita is still top shelf. In fact for commercial use they are actually above dewalt and milwaukee. Outide the USA its a lot more evident. The real difference is DeWalt has sales a l l t h e t i m e. So its easy to get into their brand. Milwaukee has sawzall and past glories of the corded tools to lean on. Fuel is a great line, but their lower stuff is no better than ridgid. In fact many of these brands are leaning on when they were good. My wife said to me black and decker is a good brand when talking about a cordless drill. No honey it was for your dad's ancient corded drill in the garage stored away. Much like Craftsman use to be. But it no longer is. Shelf space matters and Lowes carries dewalt not M or M Hence why DeWalt has so much clout now. I have 5 lines of tools. They all have good and bad tools, the pricepoint you buy in at for each line says more than the brand. Brushless dewalt-might as well buy the brushed. XR on the other hand pretty good quality with the hammer drill much better than regular driver/drill combo XR drill. The Atomic is better than the brushless, but not at the level of the XR. The Atomic is great bang for the buck IMO and prosumer grade.. Milwaukee brushless...WHY? Fuel or regular. Their middle line is not much better IMO than brushed tools. If you can get the batteries on sale, get them and don't worry about brushed using them quicker. You will save overall. Makita is all over the map because they don't really have 'lines" other than voltage. The 40 volt are great because they stay cool longer and everything good that comes with that, but are stupidly expensive. My brushless is OK but the cheap plastic drill chuck isn't good for heavy work environment, good for home use though because its lighter than an XR. Ridgid is a solid prosumer brand. Their brushless is at Atomic levels of quality, maybe a tich higher. They are cheaper than the other brands and are perfect for regular home owner/ occasional wood worker that wants a good tool without breaking the bank. Ryobi is such a great budget brand. This is what the normal person should buy, its a LOT better than jobmate or black and decker or some harbour freight trash, but at a very good price point. In some cases you are throwing your money away on a harbour/walmart work three times tool. At least for Ryobi it is quality enough to take a bit of abuse and still not fall apart.

If you look at the side profile, the trim around the battery looks like "tracks" so when it's on the tool, it looks like it is driving it around on tracks to match their construction background. This is just something that I noticed, I haven't heard if that was their intention or not.
From tests around RU-vid, it seems like these are getting outperformed by all the 21700 batteries out there - I guess it makes sense since these are not actually Graphene Batteries even if they call these that way
They are not a genuine Graphene battery. It is still a Lithium battery with Graphene in it. It will be nice when we get the real deal. Lithium can be a death trap. A true Graphene battery won't burst into flames like a Lithium. I have had two tool batteries and a phone go up so far. Worx in Australia are a bit of a toy. Budget tools with budget ability. We may get a different version to the States. Skil popped up here again. They definitely aren't the same as the ones you get. They are brushed for a start. You have Ridgid. Which if they are like the plumbing tools of the same name here. Pretty good tools. We get AEG. Which 35 years ago were great tools. AEG now. Average at best. I personally don't think these CAT things will be much cop. They have jumped the gun and gone off half cocked. Like the Dewalt powerstack. The little ones are sweet little things. But pretty useless. The new bigger ones are not sweet and pretty pointless. With their current technology once you get up to decent run time the batteries are bigger than normal round cell batteries. When the genuine Graphene batteries appear on tools. We will know very fast.
Not sure there's actually ANY graphene in them at all. It's not listed in their MSDS anyhow. CAT tools make their living from selling to 3rd world countries, like Latin American ones, and now Russia (they're currently very aggressively marketed on the Russian RU-vid). Good western tools have been priced out of reach for many thanks to you-know-who driving the economy into the wall full-speed, so they're actively winning market share thanks to their price and brand recognition from their heavy equipment. So it looks like cat brand licensee decided "why not try selling them in the West as well?"
Dude I love a corded tool. They can be hard to find these days. I am doing research right now to see if our shop should carry them (CAT Power tools that is). I noticed no one really carries them. I can see why they have for online only. They want to drop ship with minimal risk. That would make the most sense for us as well as we are just a distributor and not an actual brick and mortar. It is nice to see them coming out with stuff. The tools do look like. I will get to see some up close soon. Thank you for the video, it is very helpful when researching products.

They compete in economically struggling countries, on price and brand recognizable from heavy equipment. Looks like the push to the western markets is an afterthought - "what if we find folks to buy it there as well"
Wait an see with new technology is not a bad idea with the worx products working well at our house the hedge trimmer is the bomb same with the blower weedeater is a funky design but if meathead the son inlaw can’t tear it up in two seasons from the yard from hell you got to give it a thumbs up
New marketing technology more like. Worx is ok, cat is too, but they don't hold up to better brands, is just more or less decent Chinese tools. Now they've started to overpromise, we're starting to see them underdeliver.
If you think there's real graphene in this thing, think again. Just extra cells running in several parallel banks, that's why it is bigger, heavier, and charges faster.
I’m looking to replace all of my DeWALT tools for something with a better warranty, that “limited lifetime” that doesn’t COST to repair/replace looks pretty tempting.
I wish you luck ( in a non sarcastic way). I had a problem with a 9ah flex volt battery and really considered a switch. After talking to a few people about their warranties they didn’t seem much better. Seems to always be something in the fine print. Even rigid which is supposed to be a lifetime wouldn’t cover stuff due to “tool abuse”. Flex might still have a lifetime warranty but not sure. Dewalt did replace my battery. They didn’t have any 9ah they could send, they checked availability on a 12ah but it was 6 plus weeks out. I decided two 6ah flex volt batteries would work and it was at my doorstep that weekend. If I was going to switch platforms, I’d go hilti.
They could be just rebranded WORX tools kind of how much of Porter Cable’s tools are now rebranded Craftsman tools sold from Tractor Supply Co. There’s pretty fierce competition in the tool market. CAT definitely needs good battery tech, good quality, and a wide range of tools to compete with the likes of Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita. I think it will take a while for them to gain traction if they only have a dozen of tools or so. Contractors and DIYers would prefer larger ranges of tools to choose from and if they stick to plain everyday tools it will make CAT lag behind the other brands.
Idk how accurate the info I heard is, but I heard that graphene is set to become huge in the future of electronics. If the cat brand can get their foot in the door and become the leader for that innovation, they will kick start the process and it will exponentially increase from there.
It is, but I somehow doubt there's much, if any at all, graphene in their batteries. Batteries are made of cells, which are manufactured by other companies, you'd see graphene cells elsewhere on the market at least, if not batteries using those from other brands as well. Their MSDS sheet also does not just graphene, which is telling.
I worked for Cat oh I mean Scabapalliar for 30 plus years. They put a battery operated robot line in and a dummy Supervisor went to show off the robot's safety so the dummy stood in the path of the robot and supposedly the robot was to stop before hitting the Supervisor Dummy. Well it came up but didn't stop and broke both ankles. Just to Funny. Next I had another brainchild Supervisor who bought a new lawnmower that at the time had the newest safety on it with the handles to protect yourself. Well the Supervisor got sick and tried of all the time restarting the lawnmower so he taped the handle to keep it running while he emptied the bag of grass clippings, well he noticed the shoot of the mower was clogged so he reached in to unclog it and he reached in and it took all 4 of his fingers off. The medical saved his fingers and sew the. Into his chest to help heal so the employees nick named him Napoleon, he fit in to his nick name really good. Than I had a Forman who wanted to work on his roof but didn't want to fall off of it so he tied a rope around him and tied the other end to his vehicle but didn't tell his wife. So things were going real good but than the wife had to go somewhere so she hopped into their vehicle and backed out of the driveway and was driving down the street and the neighbors finally got her stopped. What a bad case of road rash. The list goes on and on and you are going to trust this outfit??? I worked for these dummies for over 30 years and didn't trust them. They bought up almost all the different Diesel engines and just manufacturer them using Cats blocks and changing out the heads for the different type engines and saying they were Perkins, Peterbuilt and a few more. So again you are going to trust this company. There is a thousand other stories that I can tell you. Scabapalliar even hide a couple Allison Transmissions to try to figure how they worked and had less trouble than their Transmissions.
