The Hardest and Longest Mission in Metal Slug History 

my kid brain exploded when I found myself allied with the soldiers to fight a common enemy, the most badass way to end the game

I swear this final mission feels like a whole new separate game of itself.

"Final Mission" That was a whole goddamn tour of duty.

For a lot of people, this mission is the one that made them realize: "Wait, you have INVENCIBILITY FRAMES when you jump on and out a vehicle????"

This mission alone would have cost me my whole monthly pocket money in the arcade. Damn

This level alone is how arcades where able to make massive profit

The pixel art and animations of this game still amaze me till this day.

You know it’s gonna be wild when in the first 10 minutes, you’re fighting both of the final bosses in the previous 2 games.

This entire mission screams "LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Not gonna lie,That first Morden soldier who called in the rest of the soldiers to advance & push forwards had to have been both a helluva pilot to make it on board,AND had to have some damn titanic titanium testicles to be the first man running into the line of alien fire

Metal 3 is absolute masterpiece.

This is why 3 is and will always be the best. This mission literally blew me away. It felt like I lived through 12 campy, old sci-fi films at once.

This is why metal slug 3 is my favorite. It was so epic playing through this final mission for the first time.

It feels reeeeeeally awkward when 2 players play this mission. You know the part where the mushroom-like space squid manifested and kidnapped only one of the characters? Yeah, that one...

This game teachs me two things: 1 - tanks can jump 2 - tanks can crawl

I always found it funny that in MS2 and MS3 when you have to defend earth from something more sinister (aliens and shit) it's almost always Rebel Morden Army who fight and sacrifice the hardest to defend it while the Regular army is only represented by your character/s, not like there are a mix of sprites or soldiers but only you and Rebels fighting together

This is my absolute favorite mission of all. Especially when you're headed into space. That music SLAPS!

I appreciate how much culture the creators have in animating the Fio Clone deaths. They’re like “enjoy the .5 seconds of Fio’s tits”.

Best series of all time, really. Zombies, clothes melting, alliance with the modens, space, copies, zombified characters again as enemy. They all struck a massive hit on my child brain each turn

Man, I love how your enemies fight alongside you. Truly memorable on it's own.

I find it curious how almost nobody talks about Metal Slug 3, the game has some of the most awesome missions and bosses. Also, it is hilarious how the game just took your character and said "fuck you, but we will give you another"

Imagine being in the last part of this and your mom comes to tell you it's time to leave the chuck e cheese

I stand by the idea that this is THE best level in a video game, ever. It tells an entire story without needing a single line of text or dialogue (Allen's taunts notwithstanding). It flows spectacularly. It keeps you guessing at where the end is. It constantly mixes up the gameplay. It puts you through amazing setpieces. It gives you the satisfaction of re-fighting iconic bosses of the series. And the music is just (chef's kiss).

Anyone else feel the story line went off the rails and they just ran with it.

MS3 Final mission is like having 3-4 missions, you are dealing boss and Sub-bosses like: Hairbuster Riberts HI-DO Rugname Fake Rootmars Clone Incubator Real Rootmars

It always amuses me that Metal Slug is the same type of universe where you can have a fat guy, whos eaten too much on the battlefield, easily just waltz right into a alien mothership and kick some major ass

You can tell that this and KOF 2000 were supposed to be a swan song for SNK.

They cooked this level so hard but of course they put the special ingredient: Fio's death animation 😂

That mission is a hell of a challenge. I usually end up passing it with 3-5 deaths. Though I give ya heavy credit for carrying that spaceship as far as ya did o.o Mad respect there!

Final Mission of Metal Slug 6 almost rivals this but this one still beats.

Root Mars final boss fight drives me nuts, I tried so hard to dodge the orbs below me

Quite disturbing detail that the Fio clones started to zombify once the host DNA is no longer linked

The hard part of the final boss fight isn't timing your jumps and getting into the tank, it's that you have to fight hard against your intrinsic sense of rhythm and focus solely on what you see. The mouth attacks and brain blasts are desynced to one another, and the lag spikes whenever the boss shoots can serve to both save you and throw you off if you got a rhythm in cycling between in tank and on foot.

Cuando este juego llegó al local de las maquinitas , ( así les llamamos a las arcadias aquí en Guatemala) Yo quedé fascinado, convirtiéndose en una de mis mayores obsesiones de toda mi vida como jugador. Todos los días yo hiba a jugarlo , Fue un verdadero dolor de cabeza aprender todos los patrones de ataque de los enemigos y jefes así como descubrir todos los caminos secretos y como pasarlos sin morir, no fue hasta que después de cinco meses logre pasarlo con una sola moneda y sin morir ni una vez, recuerdo que nadie más lo logró, y me consideraban como el mejor jugador de metal slug de toda la zona

This is hands down the best mission, out of all other metal slug games

Idk man but it's kindda majestic that they created a final level so long, they build up this last boss into something so scary and powerfull so we as the player can feel how majestic it is. I remembered broke my controller because how hard this level back in the day, and i was 10 back then

I've never seen the timer get down to single digit seconds remaining. Especially since they're Metal Slug seconds, each ingame second lasts a couple seconds. That was incredible, doubly so during the final Rootmars fight.

The beginning starts off so strong and hyped me up hard as a kid for what is arguably the best and hardest Metal Slug Level

Half of the time I have no idea what was going on when playing this game

This mission demonstrates how video game design really peaked in this era in terms of pure fun creativity and artistry. To the extent that even the end credits are incredibly creative, gorgeous and just fun to watch.

I miss the awesome feeling of starting this last stage while I had an entire audience at my back watching me play in the Arcade

I love how when the 3 of mordens soldiers come and check if he’s alright but fake Morden turns into an alien and they just run away and don’t come back and help fio which is so hilarious because their mind is just like “fuck this shit I’m out” or “sorry your on your own fio” keep up the work banden! 😄

When you blast out of the rocket on 7:00 and the badass soundtrack kicks in, you know shit just started to got real for this mission By default the best final mission on the entire series imo

I still remember when me and my big brother struggles alot playing this mission together

my friends and i used to challenge ourselves in this mission because it's the longest one. the one who uses the most coins to continue will treat the group with snacks. the stage itself isn't too crazy like the other stages in metal slug where it's bullet hell. this one is just battle of patience.

Was this game supposed to be an arcade game? Because I can see the money burning In this one O_o

The real kicker with this long, hard mission is, there's only 2 AREAS where prisoners are, if you are going for rescuing the prisoners, it's not so bad until you get past the rocket section, but once you are past that and rescue the prisoners, especially if you rescue them all on both sections, if you die after those 2 areas, that's it! No more prisoners. Even worse, because the prisoners are rescued by shooting those secret areas, they can easily go unnoticed!

That whole first few seconds is the meaning of that song "It's raining men!"

some rpg games may put me to sleep quickly in 30 mins or not even in one sit, but an arcade game like this would give you hype even you keep on dying. First time an arcade game gives me immersive experience, goosebumps, no lying

Such a great final mission, the subversion of expectation that it might end at the Morden fight.. but then it keeps going! It’s basically two missions in one. But the fact that it just keeps going is sooo fcking awesome!

I have played till metal slug 5. And none have a final mission like 3. There really intresting zombieman transformation and cool looking bosses. But this one feels like it has a story.

I remember this was meant to have been the final game before snk got bankrupt so thats why it went all out. I do like the metal slug 6 final mission was like a sequel to this one

To this day me and my homies play through MS 1,2 and 3 in any console. And 3 being our most favorite because its then we realised there is actually a story behind these games.

the game is perfect in everything Scenario, Soundtrack, Story and one of my favorite stages the 3 and the last mission

For me this is the franchise's finale, games after this one are merely fillers
