Melatonin enjoyer here. Melatonin is a hormone, not a drug. You can take it with Nyquil you'll just be extra eepy, you really don't need two sedatives and the additive effect is the only reason it isn't recommended. It also isn't bad for you, your body makes it itself. It's a hormone. The catch is because it's a hormone it isn't as simple as more melatonin equals more eepy, take too much and you _can_ absolutely fuck up your hormone balance for no added benefit. I've been there, it sucks, lesson learned. The lesson: just take less 4head. Your body doesn't make or need all that much. What's annoying is 5mg is at the high end of what's actually considered appropriate but on the low end of what you can find on a shelf. It sucks. Supplement companies punting 10, 15, or even 20 mg melatonin supplements on consumers who don't know better really sucks, and gets lost in the mix as melatonin haters and enjoyers fight for no reason.
PSA over, I clearly care way too much about this but dropping a "you guys are both right, go home" instead without any context is a million times more annoying than a wall of text.
Is taking meletonin regularly bad for you long term? Sometimes I have to do computer work late and it makes to hard to get to sleep earlier, so I take 2-5mg of meletonin. Sometimes I'll do it for a week straight.

It was briefly a weird red pill fitness and health influencer thing. He associates it with people who have no interest in real data and just go based on anecdotes and vibes. And with how obsessed NL is with first principles, he doesn’t really like those people, so they become a part of the straw man repertoire
The Kangaroo looks weird to NL because he doesn't understand kangaroo tails they're super muscular and he's leaning back on the tail when he got mollywopped. Kangaroos can and do box and fight and attack smaller animals to establish dominance, sometimes they even drown them which is pretty sad. A friend of mine was attacked by a roo after he was on vacation for a month the kangaroo decided his houses lawn was a good grazing spot and when he came back from vacation the male attacked him while he tried to get inside and he got scratched up pretty badly, their claws also cause infections in a lot of animals including humans so not a pleasant experience it seemed.
