𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗔𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗨𝗠 ➜ • Nano Reef Aquarium
Scleronephthya is probably my last "Masterpiece" coral, I want to try soft NPS coral and see if I keep them alive. This type of coral needs dirty water so in the past months I slowly started to add organisms that could filter the organic to compensate. The microfauna seems to be stable and well developed so I pull the trigger on this beautiful Strawberry coral.

I have cut out the bottom of a plastic water bottle and layer right over the coral and feed through the pipette via the top. This jeeps the food concentrated to that specific coral so all the polyps get some. You should try this on your strawberry and sun coral. Just saying.

There could be two reason why the clam is sideways. Maybe they get to much light and does form self shadow. The other reason can be the rock shape. If the rock have a special shape and the byssus gland does contract a lot, the shell can be forced in a other direction caused by the rock. And there is a third option. Your clam does die :-) But this is certainly not the case
@ddr8993
@ddr8993 3 года назад
Should attach a more secure rock on the clam's foot. Or you would have a hard time moving the clam when you need to. If it's trying to leave, then maybe something else is troubling it. The rock it's attached to would be its least concern
@AquaSplendor
@AquaSplendor 3 года назад
It's the opposite, I let the clam do what he wish. What ever the position he choose I will adapt to him. I know he like to receive the flow in a certain way which is harder to get in this nano. The plug prevented him to move correctly.
@ddr8993
@ddr8993 3 года назад
@@AquaSplendor I suggest that you move the clam with a rock to a different spot until it feels comfortable. Stress might kill it before it gets to its desired location

I can't believe you pulled the clam off that frag plug

Yeah, it's doing better since. He had that plug for many years where it had sand.

@@AquaSplendor I kept a 20lb or more trichinadea in a 14g biocube as a sole specimen for a 5years before I let my friend display it in his shop. Amazing what they can eat and the amount of calcium they will drink.
@AquaSplendor
@AquaSplendor 3 года назад
@@alecthenice8115 20lb? in a 14gallon aquarium? Hold on, something is not right lol :P. Good reminder for the calcium, I think he started to create more mucus lately for the shell, will check the level after this comment!

@@AquaSplendor I used a kalkwasser dosing system to help me out, I suspect lack of protein skimming helped the specimen get such a size in that water volume also. The water chemistry was too much

I never heard or seen such coral.........excellent aquisition, good luck in keeping it. By the way, since you mentioned in this video......how do you control alkalinity?
@AquaSplendor

Dosing pump, made few videos about this if you check the playlist! (Versa+Red sea powder Alk at the moment). But mostly with water change

@@Frostblitz20 I used the Carbo calcium. I have an issue with that tank, calcium build up, need more alk. Will try again with the all for reef powder eventually.

If you start in reef I would highly suggest to go with something less demanding in term of maintenance, and see if you could keep nps later. I could go away from home with sps, but nps iisshhh

Watch the playlist, it's all there! I documented literaly everything! (mostly water change)
@Frostblitz20
@Frostblitz20 3 года назад
Water changes should be weekly if not at least bi weekly. Next is up keep on cleaning filters. A lot of it boils down to your bio load which will determine how often you need to clean your filters. I run a 2nd poly pad in mine as a 2nd barrier I also have a sponge ontop of my filter socks I clean daily that catches the large food objects before it makes it down which makes it less dirty
