First time growing mine out and it’s been great so far! Beard oil is a blessing and just got my first little touch up from a barber having been just over 8 weeks for myself. Right now the hardest part is hearing my mother say how much she hates beards! Stay strong gentlemen and beard on, Liam
I started growing my beard 1 week after you did. My neck beard grows very fast but the hair on my cheecks will take ages! It is still sort of in the "awkward" fase.. but it isn't stopping me, still going strong here!
I'm not actually growing a yeard, but I am trying to grow longer. I did some rough mental math, and figured I had about two months worth of growth, so I jumped here in the playlist. Honestly so encouraging to see how similar this looks to mine, and I'm excited to keep going!
I am at 9 weeks today. People are asking me if I have trimmed, or when I am going to trim, and I keep telling them, I don’t know, I am letting it grow out until I feel it is ready. I don’t like that others want to tell me it is ready for shaping or it is long enough. This is the first time I am growing it out, I am mid aged and figuring it out. Mine seems to be a bit more curly, so the length does not show as well as if it was straight.
Thanks for the video!! Almost 5 months into my beard, longest Ive ever let it go and it went from literally shave it off comments to nothing but compliments on how it looks on me. Patience is the key for sure and not letting the awkward phase or others get in the way of the growth!
How often do you oil your beard? I am on week 8, and I’m finding myself using a ton of oil to keep my skin moisturized. My skin is also very sensitive, gets very dry underneath. Also, is it alright to trim your mustache and not the rest of the beard? I had to trim my mustache before week 8, because it was growing into my mouth.
Most I've ever grown is 3 months, and for some reason, I wasn't happy so I shaved it off. When I saw those tufts falling on the floor, I just knew I had made a mistake. This time, I'm not shaving until they put me in a box
Jack you’re an awesome addition to this channel, I’m thoroughly enjoying these videos and going through it with you as I’m trying to regrow my beard out after I trimmed it down to a stubble because I messed it up.
New phase in my life, as of Nov 1st (retired)... Let it grow!!! Thank you so much for your words and reflecting our experience... The path is not easy but the self satisfaction is worth it. Warriors are made within... Merry Christmas Brother!!!! 🌲
Thank you for these! They've kind of been a guide into my first foray into growing a beard. Approaching 20 soon, and as a big guy slimming down it really helps add some definition to my face. Didn't expect to make it to 2 months, but it's finally looking like some kind of beard :) here's to another two!
Couldn't have come at a better time, Jack. I'm about a week behind you, and I was literally firing up the electric trimmer when I got the email about your new video. I put the trimmer away, and used scissors to get the outliers. Thanks for the support, man!
I’m 8 weeks in, my density not as yours I am in progress with density like yours in the week 6. Not fully dense as you are with 8 weeks progress. I maybe will be in 4 weeks more to get to you fantastic achievement. Let’s wait one more month and see what happens if density increases Thank you for your patience with us
You're absolutely right Jack. Beard balm is a lifesaver. I learned the hard way of not using it. My only bad habit is that I keep touching my beard and playing with it way too much.
Good advice:-) Since I don’t see the “process” in others my mind assumes other guys wake up with a long, full, and awesome beard. And I notice all the crazy hairs and thin areas in my own beard. Thanks for the encouragement and perspective!
Absolutely! Beards don't just sprout up overnight, this is probably the healthiest my beard has ever looked. This series is making me be extra careful about how I take care of my hair. - Jack
Also itchiness comes from a shave, once your beard gets long enough to begin curling in towards the skin a bit the shaven hairs are sharp/ tapered and stab at your face creating irritation- itch - burn. Let your beard grow out enough to be able to take an electric trimmer to it, the trimmer will put a flat cut tip on the hairs,,, no more prickly burning itch to worry of 👍
It's good to hear everything you talked about. I've tried growing a beard a couple of times, but gave up because I got impatient and judged the way it looked too much. I'm giving it a try again and am about 3 weeks in now.
I came back to this video to see how my 8 week beard compares to yours (just hit 8 weeks today) & I am very surprised at how similar my beard is to yours at this point. I even think that my 8 week beard is slightly fuller than yours, I never thought that our beards were so similar. Honestly, it just gives me more confidence in my beard because I know that if I grow a 6 month beard like you have currently that it'll look very close to the way yours does.
Good progress so far. Once you start getting length it will begin looking a lot better. I know for me one of the hardest things was letting that neck beard grow in and also learning when and where to trim. Enjoying these videos. Keep it up!
We are beard twins, dude. I have the same texture/curl thing and a very weak mustache that pisses me off to no end. I'm at around week 8ish right now. Trying to leave my stache alone so I can see what it does. The temptation to just sheer the damn thing down is so strong.
I'm right here beside ya Jack! My beard is at the same time lapse I am a patchy beard grower, I'm 25 but I won't let that stop my yeard! My question is in growing out the yeard when is it a good time to start shaping it to what I would like it to be? Thanks for another great video. Beard on!
Among all the encouragements to keep going, here's the question nobody wants to answer: at what point do you just accept that you don't have the genetics and give up? I mean there has to be a point, if you're not happy after a year? Two years? There must be a point where the right thing to do is just to shave.
Hey, Jack I'm 16 year old and I still have not got those thick hair on my cheeks but there are hair but they are very thin. Is there any advice to speed up this process? Please reply! You have an awesome beard btw and yeah Happy new year in advance!
Growing mine out right now. Worked in law enforcement for 32 years but retired now and always wanted a beard. Problem is my hair is brown but my beard comes in grey. How do i know when to trim it and then darken it with a beard dye?
I started growing my beard when I got into university It's my 2nd year and this year I started going to a barber. Now my beard is not the basic however it wants to grow type of beard but it has shape now and as the barber recommended I left the mustache and it was a great decision! I still have some smaller patches in the beard that needs time but it doesn't look bad at all!
3 months is a great time to go in for your first trim. Some men like to have a trim after one month, but we encourage 3 months to encourage plenty of growth. - Jack
+ Gio’s 0271 Oh, c'mon, I wouldn't put my tiny little beard above Eric, Carlos, or Greg's. Those three rock some of the most incredible beards I've ever seen! Thanks for the kind words though! I really appreciate it! - Jack
It’s coming along nicely Jack, you’ve got the density on lock! I personally think you look better with a beard, you’ll easily be able to pull off a long beard. All the best and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I'm 4 weeks in and my beard looks crazy! It's so dense and thick. I can't imagine it ever looking like a healthy natural beard. But I'm hanging in there!
Keep on growing buddy it looks good and I will enjoy seeing your progress through the yeard journey. I my self am on the same journey .I am at 8 months and still going strong. Keep up the updates look forward to your progress .
I also have a weak mustache. Like it's still super light hairs, but they grow pretty long and eventually start kinda filling in. Which they were darker and the overall density was better. At your color matches!
Can i use a Nivea Body lotion to hydrate the skin under my beard? PS:- I'm just a beginner(19 yr old indian) and its been about 3 months since I've started growing one..and till now i haven't felt any sort of extremely uncomfortable itching as such...just very moderate sometimes...so is it a good choice for hydrating my beard skin?
Thanks for these tips and encouragement in this and really all of your videos. I've just recently found and started following Beardbrand. I've enjoyed all of the content so much. I too have only ever had stubble or a very short beard. I've never let it grow to any length or fullness at all. Right now I'm planning on letting it grow for awhile to really see what it can do. I know I can always shave it or trim it if I want to but I'm looking forward to trying something I have not done before. Again, thanks to you and all the other guys for not only the great information but the way you present it.
the beard looks really good. cant wait to see it in a couple months. Been growing mine for several months, not as thick as yours but it looks good for a gray/white beard, maybe 3 inches in lenght and would be longer if i wouldn't have got scissor happy. come January 1st not trimming for 1 whole year, wish me luck.
I am about 3 months into growing my yeard and I have made the mistake of shaving my neck line to high. The rest of my beard is 2 to 3 inches long. Should I continue to shave it or let it grow and blend it in later?
Good question, man! So I'd suggest to start brush a beard as soon as possible. Seriously, get yourself a Boar Bristle Brush, it'll make a HUGE difference www.beardbrand.com/products/boars-hair-brush - Jack
Thanks Jack. I have all four problems and I'm trying to have a same beard as Ben Affleck when he was in Argo. It's missing a sideburns and the goatee part grew faster than on the sides. Is that typical?
I'm at about 2 & a half months & oh my god patience really is key, I have a hard time filling in the left & right side of my chin similar so its always very easy for me to trim down but I'm finally starting to see more coverage in that area, it just took forever. I realized its also with age.. I was 15 when i first grew my beard, but that area was completely bald & my mustache wouldn't connect. Now I'm 21 & the mustache is connected & the bald parts on my chin are finally filling in.
You definitely look better with a full beard. I think your beard is just fine. Yes you may have a slightly weak mustache but that adds character and the shape is actually fine.
These videos keep me positive about growing my beard. I just want a big beard already!! Yours is just as long as mine in 2 months and mine has taken me 7 months... IMO you rock the beard well, definitely better with than without (Y)
Thanks for the kind words, Rhys! And hey, no worries about your beard right now, we all grow at different speeds! Just be patient with it, and it'll definitely get there! - Jack
I don't know what happened to me,i started growing a real strong Beard about 4/5 years ago and right now my terminal hairs turned to vellus hair one of the sides is almost completely snowwhite and it don't look like stubble anymore it look like peach fuzz. Anyone that knows what went wrong? Is it because it's dead hair and there will come new terminal hair again? Or will i have to live many years without a Beard?
It's only been a week, but this is my first time actually keeping it. I've maybe shaved for about a year. How long should it take for color to start showing through? It's as long as your week 3 i guess, but kinda peach fuzz still
+A Just Cause For sure! I look back on that first video I made and cringe a little. Filming in the Beardbrand studio was a little surreal at first but now it's become like a second home. - Jack
I comb my beard and I see hair falling out seems like every morning for a week straight I would see beard hair in the sink. Is this normal? Is combing my beard and thing?
I noticed you have that "Dip" on your beard too, how should I work with it, I generally like to have my cheek line high but just like you I have a dip....what do you recommend, should I drop the cheek line lower? Your beard is the best!!!
Is coconut oil good for the beard? I started growing mine in March 2017 and I have a few patches on the sides but a thick mustache & thick enough under/around the chin! Awesome video btw👍💯
Coconut oil can be pretty good for your beard BUT, none of us here recommend it over beard oil because you really aren’t going to get as many long term benefits. Plus personally, I’ve found that coconut oil smells really bad by the end of the day in a beard. - Jack
