I could honestly say I’m someone who does their best to manage my emotions so that I don’t get easily affected whether it’s positive or even negative. I totally agree this course challenges you in every aspect and personality clashes on placement as experiencing mentors from 2 different placements feeling like I’m a easy target to reflect their negativity looking back it’s has nothing to do with me and at the end it’s about separating yourself and the way you cope and manage whilst getting the necessary support. This video is going to be especially useful for my upcoming management placement x

@@ClaireCarmichael Thank you! It’s exciting but also nerve wracking haha. I was also wondering if you worked during uni and if so what you did? I’ve heard of some people doing bank shifts as it can be hard to find regular with placement xx

I agree with all the points. Nursing is an emotional job. Appropriate footwear is crucial on the wards. It can not be overemphasized

Some really important points there Claire! Thank you so much for this video. I can relate to so many of these even just 9 months into my first year. I do think it's such a hard course and can get so tough I am not surprised about people dropping out sadly. I also remind myself it's not for forever and at the end I will be able to become a good and resilient nurse having gone through these tough times.

Morning! Sorry to hear you’ve had these struggles. But once you get to the end of it all, you can work anywhere you want and be happy in your career 🥰 perks of being a nurse - we are always in demand all over the world haha 💙🌻

Claire, another great video. I agree it is important to take time for self care. It is good to talk as regardless of where in the NHS family you work will always have a patient or potentially the relatives of a patient which sticks in your mind that you will never forget [rather like the old saying an elephant never forgets - thanks for prompting me with that top]. It is never a weakness to admit you need help it is a doorway to support. Hopefully in the future the Government will look into an option where for every 2 years FTE equivalent you work in the NHS they pay one years tuition fees for our future healthcare staff.

Great video and nice new design :D As a first year I really struggle with my emotions on placement - one day I'll be really confident and positive and then the next I'll doubt myself loads. Hoping that goes away as I get more experience!!

❤️ LOVEEEE your new intro & video content this week! Thank you for your honesty. It’s so important for any prospective nursing students to understand all of these points to prepare themselves prior to the course. This is just as important as making a head start on A&P etc if not more so! Developing strong healthy mindset & preparation is key.

I'm a second year student nurse and I agree with you especially about placements you don't enjoy. I am on a ward just now and I don't want to be a bedside nurse. I dont like the politics and the hospital environment but im just pushing on... hoping to get into community nursing when I qualify. Love your channelx

Aw I’m sorry to hear this! I know this feeling so well 😭 but keep going. Make the most of all the opportunities on the ward too :) get out of there and go on different pathways for the day etc. All helps :) xx

Very interesting Claire, tbh I am enjoying placement on the ward, I was trying to get more hours but they said no. The ward sister wanted to be my mentor so we have the same shift days so that I am able to meet all the proficiencies get everything signed off on my first placement. Then doing it all again for the second placement which, I am looking forward to as well even though I don't know where it is yet. I got involved in politics as a student ambassador of the RCN and the other ward sister tells me I need to go to the RCN conference, so I have definitely fitted in on the ward and the team.

Thanks for this great video... would you say nursing is okay for shy people?
@ClaireCarmichael
@ClaireCarmichael 3 года назад
I was the most unconfident shy person to start with 😂 I’d never of dreamed creating a RU-vid channel!! But here I am :) nursing changes you - for the better. As long as you are kind, caring and can help patients - that’s all that matters. Also, nursing pushes you out of those comfort zones to do more 💙🌻
@TheCarlosicus
@TheCarlosicus 3 года назад
I agree! Nursing does massively change you for the better in so many wonderful and unique ways! I’m super anxious and at the start of nursing I would develop brain farts when speaking with doctors, nurses etc However, once you become more knowledgable around nursing and more experienced you become so much more confident and go from strength to strength! We are advocates for our patients and so when you believe in something so much and you’re caring for someone, it overrides that shyness somehow, because these people need your help. A Diallo: Go for it :D
