I quite enjoy these "Bringle plays TTYD in a weird and difficult way" even if I know that a large amount of it is going to come down to him just being really ~really~ good at superguarding.
ikr, when he briefly showed the super mario files webpage on the crowd it showed that every single audience member type has their own weird quirk like that. Like, the x-nauts are perfectionists, so if you fail to deal damage with an attack or are countered by an enemy on contact, _every_ _x-naut_ _in_ _the_ _audience_ _throws_ _a_ _rock_ _at_ _you_ 😂
when it comes to superguard heavy playthroughs and delivering the suspense of the moment, I think possibly records your audio while you're playing and cutting some of it in at crucial moments could help communicate that. I love the detailed play by plays and explanations, but just a quick cut to hearing your relief in the moment after hitting a clutch superguard or the "oh shit" when one fails could help. Keep up the great work, your description of not subscribing to a youtube channel because you literally forget at the beginning of the video was exactly how I was with this channel, so you know I finally clicked 1 (one) time to change that.
disagree, I like the commentary heavy nature of his videos and having audio of his reactions would dampen the experience, especially because I like to fall asleep to these videos and loud reactions would kill that aspect of his videos for me.
@@StarryOak76 I personally prefer real reactions because I like hearing what they're thinking in the moment. As a nice bonus, if my narcolepsy acts up, if there's a sudden "fuck!" I might wake up
Next challenge idea: TANSTAAFL (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch) Every action must cost either SP, FP, or Coins (mostly in the form of items). No free attacks. No Appeals. No Defending. If you run out of all three of SP, FP, and Coins, you need to retreat or reset. I have no clue if this is actually possible. If it isn't, maybe allow Appeals? Edit: Not that it matters at this point, but the Earth Tremor special flips Koopatrols and Dark Koopatrols, so if you're only facing those enemies, you can just Earth Tremor to trivialize the fight.
Maybe allow Appeals if you're wearing the Super Appeal badge, since while that doesn't cost SP, FP or Coins, it *does* still require you to dedicate BP to it that you can't use on other things, which seems to be sort of in the spirit of the challenge.
20:21 going into the bottom left or right corners makes it impossible for any pit enemy to get to you and they will lose aggro, then regain aggro, then lose it again, etc. You can also first strike the dark bristles with the super/ultra hammer despite not being able to actually use it on them in battle!
Challenge idea: Badges Galore You must equip every badge you get, and must always Level BP. You cannot unequip badges under any curcumstances. Great video as always!
I mean, that WOULD be a fun idea if it wasn't for the fact that like, there's barely any badges in TTYD that make the experience HARDER. Those that are, are basically all optional and therefore likely not going to be touched in this sort of challenge. So like, basically you're suggesting "TTYD, but you get stronger constantly"
The interesting part is not being able to unequip them, so you can't change the set-up fight to fight, and by having to Equip everything asap, there is strategy to avoid badges that will only be useful for a short bit. A lot of the strategy would be in the form of routing to avoid bad badges and obtain good badges in a good order.
@@ryroller9394 I mean, that is true, but even still I can't think of many fights that would be harder with basically every badge you have equipped. Most badges are benefits to have on, or give you more moves to use with Mario. I can't really see having all your badges on being a bad thing in a majority of cases.
Solid content with solid explanations and narration. And what's even better, a solid release schedule. Good job dude! Quickly becoming one of my favorite channels
Man either my high rn is making me hyperobversent or smthn but watching the figts and noticing the small details of the enemies snd color asthetics made me fall in love with this game again
@@iceyspicey4802you are not a fun person to be around judging by this response, it's not like you need to encourage being high or whatever, but keep the negativity to yourself bro
Maybe from magic? It is an ancient undead dragon, afterall. You think it'd be stronger than it is, but for gameplay reasons, it's probably toned down in strength compared to what is would probably be lore-wise (from whatever lore it has DX)
Found your channel this week! Very entertaining, clean editing and good explanations for everything you do. Just the kind of content I was looking for! You might want to add a warning for those flashy lights.
I noticed yesterday I was missing a TTYD RU-vidr in my subscriptions list. Didn’t notice and fix this issue (and likely wouldn’t have) until your reminder, so thanks.
Nice job! That Bonetail fight was tense. I do want to address your little ramble, though -- maybe your specific "No Star Points Code" variant requires superguarding for the Pit, but every challenge you've done so far in vanilla TTYD is 100% possible without superguarding. Nonetheless, I enjoy watching good superguarding as someone who strives to make everyone better at it LOL Also, the 80s get massacred by Clock Out, and it's a great way to keep Star Power high. Next time you're in the Pit, try using Clock Out! Or, if you're feeling spicy, try Power Lift to kinda achieve the same effect. I used it in my recent Level 0 Pre-Chapter 4 Pit run and it worked surprisingly well LOL
@@felixargyle5424 Trial Stew restores all Star Power, so you can get away with some really wild Special Move-centric strategies utilizing them, especially with Boo's Sheets LOL
1. Great video, you absolute madman 2. I do wonder if [some] AR codes might somehow be _less_ legitimate due to causing unintended side effects? It's not all that common, but it definitely does happen
Just in case it's annoying to see it every video, I'll give it a break after this, but please--if you ever considered a Patreon or RU-vid Membership, I'd really like to donate to this channel. Your style of presenting information and the content itself really hits home for me. Not saying that I HAVE to throw money at everything I really enjoy, but I would like to in this case.
I’ve gotten this type of comment from quite a few people and it’s very humbling and means a lot! Due to the feedback I’ll probably be looking into setting up one of those options very soon since it would definitely help me keep making videos while I attend college and have bills to pay. I appreciate the sentiment so much, you have no idea
@@BringlesCan Very glad to hear that and wishing you all the best with school! I'll keep an eye out for the announcement, so expect me to be hawking your vids from start to finish at least until you can take my credit card information lol
I made a challenge run for Paper Mario Consumption Only -You can only use moves that require FP, SP, or Items, unless these resources are unavailable. -Appeal is allowed only when you're out of FP, SP, and items to use. -Doing Nothing is allowed, but Defending is only allowed if all potential attacks in the following turn pierce defense.
Paper Mario TTYD, but it's color splash: You can ONLY use moves, attacks, and badges that are your most prominent, identifying color. This includes partners and their color. For instance, Mario can use anything in the strategy menu, since both Mario & the icon are red, but you cannot jump or hammer enemies without red attack badges like soft stomp & fire drive. Badges are judged based on the actual badge part, not the emblem on the front, so while badges like Close call, Super appeal & HP up are NOT considered red, All or nothing, HP drain & P-up D-down are. Items such as Mushroom, Jelly shroom & Fire flower can be used by Mario, and can be used on partners. A partner's color is a bit arbitrary, but i'll go with this list: Goombella: Pink Koops: Green (maybe blue/yellow?) Flurrie: Purple Yoshi: Green, red, blue, orange, pink, black, or white Vivian: Purple Bobbery: White (maybe blue/brown?) Ms. Mowz: Red Partner badges lock you to partners of that color, ie if Damage Dodge P is equipped, you can ONLY switch Vivian & Flurrie into battle. Badges you have to manually use can be equipped, but not used by anyone not of that color. (except Peekaboo) And finally, L & W badges DO change Mario's color for the purposes of this challenge
Always love seeing your vids man! From when I first started watching your vids, you were around 2000 subs. I love the fact that your subs have gotten so big! I hope your channel blows up even further
I think one of my most painful, yet enjoyable memories of TTYD is through two separate playthroughs attempting to beat it without dying once, including Bonetail. I did it, but stupidly read the ghosts diary (I was curious) so it didn't count for me. Second attempt, made it all the way to Bonetail and it was down to the wire. He hit me with ice breath and froze me at 1 HP, he had enough HP to get hit by a power smash and be done. I didn't know that you take damage when you thaw so I died, literally one attack away from beating the entire game without dying
I been binging your channel. I’m loving the content man. Have you done a challenge at level0-1 where your hammer and jump and partners aren’t upgraded? That would be realllllllly wild
@@phictionofgrandeur2387You can do the Pit without upgrading your hammer or jump. Prologue Pit is a challenge people have done before. However, I don't think doing a Prologue Level 0 Pit of 100 Trials run would be possible at all, even if you had 100% superguard consistency at all times. I think Bonetail's un-superguardable bite would end up doing you in. It might be possible if you use cheats to have access to all of your party members, but at that point it would still boil down to superguard abuse since Mario would be too weak to pierce the defense of anything higher than 1 with his normal attacks.
What a crazy run~ I think though you could have cheese'd more on the lower floors before by keeping one enemy alive and just appealing. You could have also started the battle appealed and ran. Its a bit more grindy in that sense. Either way, I was very impressed and it was cool to watch ^^
Just in case anyone does wanna try this on actual hardware for the story; u do need to avoid battles when possible. Eventually u will increase ur stage rank (10,20,30) which WILL impact ur gameplay as ull have bigger audiences so faster meter generation as well as new hazards being introduced
I have a bit of a nuanced take on Peekaboo. I think its inclusion is okay specifically because of what you're using the footage for. If you were, say, submitting your time to a leaderboard, it's technically breaking the rules and probably shouldn't be accepted. But you're not. This is content for us. And we appreciate the insight into enemy health.
Another difficulty change in your level 0 run compared to one without the action replay code is that your audience is much smaller than it could be. This means less star power from them but also means no random ice or fog messing with you. Edit: well I suppose I should have waited longer to comment this because you did mention it in the video. So have a comment for the algorithm I guess
Day 3 of asking for the only hammer run . Rules are simpel you and your partner are not allowed to jump but you can use items. But hammer throw is allowed
I enjoyed this a lot, but I hope you put out some runs that ban superguards in the future. Not everything! Just here and there some runs that ban it. I personally find the unique badge build aspect of TTYD more interesting than the skill aspect of it. I love your runs and I have no problem with more highly skill based superguard heavy runs going forward! I just would also like to see some runs that are more focused on crazy badge setups here and there! Anyways, love the content, keep up the good work!
Thank you for not being the type of RU-vidr who makes a click baity challenge video title that sounds interesting only to cheat the system and just use danger mario
I think Superguards are a bit more interesting in live playthroughs or VODs where you actually can see the failed attempts and go through the stress of "will they finish this run" along with the player. In edited videos like this where we already know the outcome, superguards seem "cheap" because the viewer isn't seeing all of the failed attempts. Maybe some "fake out" segments showing failed attempts or areas but instead played straight as if they'd cleared to give a false sense of security for the viewer might help their reputation and show how stressful they are.
iirc you have a poor opinion of Flurrie, but she’d have been a massive help during many of the later floors, having anywhere from 60% to 80% against the Elite Wizzerds and most other floating enemies. Forget the exact percent, but it’s enough for some of the channels/people that basically exclusively do challenge runs to have based their entire strategy on some floors around, so at least worth looking into. EDIT: See replies, what I posted is inaccurate.
This is normally true, but because Bringle used an AR code to never level up, Gale Force would've been *much* less effective since Mario's level is factored into the success of the move and the later floors have are pretty high level. LOL
First, also, the audience size actually has no effect on star power. It only pretty much causes more people to throw items due to higher amounts of them.
@BringlesCan As does its composition. Bonetail in particular can be *miserable* if you get unlucky and roll the All Dry Bones audience. For those not in the know, Dry Bones give ZERO SP for Stylish moves or successful attacks. The only way to get SP from a Dry Bones audience member is by Appealing. Bonetail has a few possible audience compositions that can be used for the fight. The absolute worst one is All Dry Bones for the reasons listed above.
@@CybeastID count me among those who were not in the know! this explains why i barely earned any star power back during the bonetail fight i did a few days ago. it was like 98% dry bones and a couple of boos. tbh, even if i'd known about appealing i wasn't in a position to spare the turns, but at least now i understand why that was happening.
If the challenge doesn't involve no superguards, then there's no reason to be shy about superguading. Just time your button press when the haters comment to take no damage and chip away at them.
It would be cool if there was a crowd control MOD for ttyd. Then the in game audience could just be the real audience, using bits for star power...or just throwing rocks. Probably throwing rocks
I would of really enjoyed the failed attempt to be edited into the storytelling rather than just a footnote at the end, it really helps with the suspense
you might not know this, but bristles and dark bristles can actually be super/ultra hammer first struck, theirs an error in the coding that doesnt prevent them from launching their spikes out with that specific attack as a first strike, dont try it outside of a first strike though cause they will react then.
Dude honestly screw what anyone says about banning super guards. I think challenges are undoable if you can't use them. They are what separates the pros from the noobs. If I may, these people are just jealous they can't do half of those superguards you can do. I know the more you limit yourself the more fun it is, but I think the thrill of fishing for super guards is fun because it's not like you connect all of them, it still requires a LOT of skill!
I think you should make the background animated (like my videos do) idk I just think it'd be cool, whaddaya think? I go into fake online photoshop and multiply the tiny little symbols on a 4k image and then on premiere pro I zoom in to the bottom right corner of the photo and then keyframe so that it moves to the opposite corner. I think you should try it, it looks nice and you can manipulate the speed at whatever rate you like
hey bringle, im not sure how you feel about paper mario mods, but why not do a letsplay/challenge video on mastermode and dark star? dark star not only adds a pit of 100 in the first paper mario, status effects in most areas and unique buffs for partners, it also adds a new modded in partner.
we can make this harder, sell your hp to chet rippo so you only have 5 max with that hp "level" going into the unused badge points the level -1 challenge
