You can tell it's George R.R. Martin if you just read pages about the food. It's so prevalent, people have made cookbooks based on the meals explained in his books.
Read At the Mountains of Madness if you want to see Lovecraft go all out with his descriptions. The descriptions do paint an interesting picture though.
This is Lovecraft's final story before his death in 1937. It makes you wonder if the Haunter of the Dark was really the one who finally did him in for revealing too much...
I will belive what you say to be true, in aspect of "it was his last storytelling" and I ad-lib that slightly... (sorry Grammer po po 😅) ever thought he knew it was his last tenticluar tale? As we belive it was the last of Nobel words of fancy that would Twixt ones inner darkness and bring it to twilight's dawn
I love the Poe shout-out towards the end - Roderick Usher, of the Fall of the House of Usher. No doubt that Lovecraft greatly admired that tale from the master Poe.
@@sweatynutlover4827 I know this is a one-year-old post but, check out Blood Meridian there is a character that is just that way all the time. You'll like him.
HP Lovecraft is a bit risky online, Twitter might hear about it and claim that because you read one of his books you must agree with him on absolutely everything.
Daniel Bohl I listen to this channel when I’m going to bed. Using REM sleep is when your imagination makes these stories so surreal. I often fall asleep before they end. Rather nice to listen to. Am I a sociopath?
Fantastic reading of a Lovecraft tale most excellent. When I first read this story it really terrified me and it terrifies me again with your telling of it. Thank you for bringing this tale to life for me
oh man this is going to be awesome. Edit: It was! I've always wanted him to do exactly this. I figured it had to happen eventually. I hope there are more HP lovecraft stories on the way. They make such great audio books and I cannot imagine anyone else who I would rather have reading them than...I don't know channel creator's name so I'll call him The Explorer.
Honestly I think his language is one of the reasons that his works weren't as popular during his own lifetime? Having read many classics from the era, people just didn't talk/write like that anymore. I think it made his characters feel less realistic to his audience at the time. I mean, imagine if someone wrote a book where people talked in mid Atlantic way reminiscent of the 1960s but it takes place in modern day. It'd be weird, right?
Christmas, is christmas, but you say happy holidays because there’s about a half dozen holidays celebrated on or almost on the same day. And about a dozen forgotten ones that should still be celebrated for man’s good will, or should never be recovered for the good will of man...
That story has been done to death. Give him a real challenge, “The Mountains of Madness”. The story won’t be hard to tell....but finding illustrations that would do justice to the impossible architecture and geometry of the lost city has never been done correctly and many believe may be impossible.
Never bothered with lovecraft work before. But have been fascinated by the SCP universe which takes a lot of inspiration from lovecraft, however can safely say after listening for 10 minutes I’m loving this! How has it taken me so long to give this a chance
I've read a ton of it and there are a lot of good ones. Horror babble here on RU-vid have done quite a few of them. Just look out for racisms if you're sensitive to that sort of stuff. Especially stories like rats in the wall.
@@anonamously5858 and in herbert west. The racism picks up at a shocking rate. It goes from none to super in under 10 paragraphs. Taljs bad about women, black people, and Italians. Then a bit later it goes again
Thank you for the suggestions and I’ll be sure to look out for that kind of stuff but truth be told I’m English so I can’t be offended by a lot of that, don’t agree with it but certainly won’t put me off a good horror story
It was the latest blow up of Cuhthulu what couple of year now that got attention as I do love a good book.. I chose to listen to this audio book because I've been listening/watching scp storytelling 😁 🙏
Me too I never listened to the lovecraft stories, just went to the scp’s. However the other night I woke up to Dunwich horror and the description of Lavinia the albino and her goat child I’ve been catching up the past few days😅
Let's go in old abandoned chreepy church they said it'll be fun they said...well now I've got a rusty nail in my foot and it's swollen to twice it's size and an off color...
love your videos, you are my favorite narrator because you don't exaggerate your voice and make it feel fake, always listen to your videos when I go for a walk
The necronomicon: one of the most rare books in all of history, yet, in every story about lovecraftian horror, you find one. From the Hexer series, the stories of Wolfgang Hohlbein (which is german), to a story about sherlock holmes and cthulhu and almost any of the other stories, there is one. It's like, every character has read it xD
Hi !! I just discovered H.P lovecraft horror stories. Which book do you think I should read first? I really like horror stories, but Im a little lost. Thank you 🤩❤💜
It's not a coincidence that our protagonists are informed about the Necronomicon given that Lovecraft's fictional universe is centered around its contents. We follow these protagonists simply because they are familiar with the Necronomicon and the dangers entailed within. None of the protagonists are everyday grocers and postmen with nice families and well-mowed lawns , but academics and explorers with an interest in the occult. There's a reason Lovecraft did not write a spin-off about Akeley's son in San Diego
Also, books can be numerically rare with a scarce yet well-visited number of copies. There appears to be a disproportionally high concentration of editions in New England, but aside from that perhaps entire nations are spared its terrible presence
Thank you exoloring as a dyslexic I've always hated to read as the words allot of times don't make sense and it's frustrating, but with this I've always wanted to read on of his books thank you for this
I haven’t listened to it yet but wanted to say that this is amazing, please please please do more of these, the Ouroboros Cycle was amazing to listen to and I love the longer episodes! Thank you so much, I look forward to delving into this! ❤️
I was listening to youtube in the background and it was just auto playing. I was half listening, but I tabbed over, and see I am lstening to an HP Lovecraft story. I thought it was an SCP Lord Blackwood tale, lol! Easy to see where the Blackwood tales got their influence!
"I have seen the Dark Universe yawning"...really, I thought Dracula Untold was a good movie, not boring at all, and I was sad when the planned franchise never materialized. To think that Lovecraft actually got to watch the final Mummy/Vampire team-up movie all those decades ago.
Hey, for your next SCP video, you should cover the 🌙🌙🌙(Triple-Moon) Initiative, who are affiliated with SCPs 2578 & 3922. They’re cool, check them out.
Soot pronounced like foot. And buttress is but-tress. Bedraggled is bed-raggled. Not trying to be a dick though I'm sure I look it, but I like your dramatic readings and am trying, in my own way to help improve them.
Do you have a playlist for other H.P. Lovecraft audio books you've made? I've really enjoyed this one. The music and the sideshow images really makes listening to the book better.
Great reading. I have always been interested in the link between Robert E Howard & H.P. Lovecraft. The mingling of their stories with cross-references of ancient civilizations and elder Gods. Their friendship certainly influenced each other. Would love to see you touch on those.
It's early morning, and I'm listening to this with a glass of orange juice and a cup of hot tea, both for my cold. Please sir, may we have some more?🎃👍😱
