Angela Roquemore I always wonder what it would have been like if Basil Rathbone had narrated The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, I remember his reading several Edgar Allen Poe stories and poems, IMHO it might have been interesting to say the least how he would have handled Washington Irving’s story.

The story of the Headless Horseman: back when the war for independence raged on, the king conscripted German mercenaries known as Hessians into the war. But while the rest were in it for money, there was one who was in it for carnage. Nobody knows his real name but he was feared by both rebels and Hessians. he was notorious for riding into battle with a saber and axe, lopping off heads one by one. But everyone is destined to meet their end, so near the end of the war on halloween night in the outskirts of Sleepy Hollow, New York, the horseman was riding alone until a loud boom was heard and before he knew it, his head was taken clean from his body. To this day, he still rides on hallows eve still looking for his long lost head and killing anyone who crosses his path...

[Brom:] (spoken) Just gather round and I'll elucidate On what goes on outside when it gets late Along about midnight, the ghosts and banshees Get together for their nightly jamboree There's things with horns and saucer eyes Some with fangs about this size [Skinny Woman:] Some are fat [Fat Woman:] And some are thin [Ghoulish Man] And some don't even wear their skin [Brom:] I'm telling ya, brother. It's a frightful sight To see what goes on Halloween Night (sung) When the spooks have a midnight jamboree They break it up with fiendish glee Ghosts are bad, but the one that's cursed Is the Headless Horseman, he's the worst [Chorus:] That's right, he's a fright On Halloween night When he goes a-joggin' 'cross the land Holdin' his noggin in his hand Demons take one look and groan And hit the road for parts unknown [Chorus:] Beware, take care, he rides alone [Brom and Chorus:] And there's no spook like a spook who's spurned They don't like him, and he's really burned He swears to the longest day he's dead He'll show them that he can get a head [Brom:] They say he's tired of his flamin' top He's got a yen to make a swap So he rides one night each year To find a head in the hollow here [Chorus:] Now he likes them little, he likes them big Part in the middle, or a wig Black or white or even red [Brom:] The Headless Horseman needs a head [Brom and Chorus:] With a hip-hip and a clippity-clop He's out lookin' for a top to chop So don't stop to figure out a plan You can't reason with a headless man [Brom:] Now if you doubt this tale is so I met that spook just a year ago Now I didn't stop for a second look But made for the bridge that spans the brook For once you cross that bridge, my friends [Chorus:] The ghost is through, his power ends [Brom:] So when you're riding home tonight Make for the bridge with all your might He'll be down in the hollow there He needs your head, look out, beware [Chorus:] With a hip-hip and a clippity-clop He's out looking for a head to swap So don't try to figure out a plan You can't reason with a headless man

When I was five, I loved scary stories for some reason. On Christmas, I got this on disc. I watched it before I went to bed the night after. I watched this song and it worried me a bit. I knew I would see the Headless Horseman sooner or later. When I saw him on the screen I was all like "Holy shit, this guy is so FUCKIN scary!" Especially with him swinging that knife everywhere. I didn't scream because I didn't want to hurt my dad's feelings.( He was the one who got the movie for me.) So I kept on watching. But when the Horseman threw his head at Ichabod I was like, " Fuck it, I gotta SCREAM!!!!!!!" So I did. My parents came running in and I explained why I was screaming. My dad totally understood me and threw out the movie. FOR GOOD.

Your father shouldn't have thrown away the video. That would have been like throwing away his hard-earned money. If he wanted to get rid of it, he could have given it to a friend or neighbor or relative (preferably someone who doesn't get scared too easily), or he could have sold it at a garage sale, or at one of those stores that buy used DVDs, as well as CDs (the FYE stores do it all the time; I know that because I have been to the one in the Boynton Beach Mall many times), or if your dad was desperate, he could have donated it to one of those Goodwill stores or consignment shops.

I actually has play Sleepy Hollow as a theater once! Me and my theater group made our own version of the story! And I was playing Ichabod Crane! The guy who played his/mine rival Brom Bones was a ten years old little boy. I was 25 years old.

I doubt they’d ever recreate the song unless it was a musical stage like KH2. They never re-did the musical numbers from Aladdin or Nightmare Before Christmas ( not counting the background instrumentals) even though those worlds were in most of the games.

Plus, you can't defeat the Horseman. Unlike other baddies, he cannot be defeated. Ever. The best you can do & wait until dawn when he goes back to his grave, because from midnight until dusk, he has free reign over Sleepy Hollow.

Except that when Ichabod crashes into him & looks down his neck & the horseman cackles at him, Ichabod flees in sheer terror, indicating that this is the REAL deal, NOT Brom playing a practical joke.

Unless he was deluding himself over what he's seeing...the whole point in the book is that it depends on what you believe. They were told that Crane was alive and settled down somewhere else, but they still tell the story of his spirit walking down to town every night

@michaelpalmieri7335
@michaelpalmieri7335 4 года назад
@@ronaldmorgan4734 Actually, it doesn't say that the Headless Horseman was Brom Bones in disguise. It merely suggests that he was, but it is never proven. So, the ending is rather ambiguous, leaving the reader to decide for himself. Sometimes ambiguous endings can be better than the kind of ending where everything is completely explained, and there are no loose ends left. There were plenty of such conclusions on "The Twilight Zone." In fact, there was one in "The Time Element," which was the inspiration for the show. Rod Serling wrote the story as an episode of "The Desilu Playhouse," a program produced and hosted by Desi Arnaz of "I Love Lucy" fame (Desilu was a combination of his first name and the first two letters of the first name of his wife and "I Love Lucy" co-star, Lucille Ball). Serling was hoping the story would sell TV executives on the idea for "The Twilight Zone." In "The Time Element," William Bendix (the star of "The Life Of Reilly") plays a man who goes to see a psychiatrist because he's been having recurring nightmares about being in Hawaii on the day of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He tries to warn several people about the impending attack, including a bartender, a young Navy Ensign and his new wife, but, as might be expected, no one takes him seriously. The trouble is that he doesn't believe that it's all just a dream; he thinks he really is going back in time to the "day of infamy." This belief is reinforced when he remembers the name of the Ensign in his dream, who mentioned the name of his home town. He tells the psychiatrist that he managed to get in touch with a woman who lives in the Ensign's town and happens to have the same last name as him. Figuring that she is the young man's mother, he pretended to be a friend of her son and asked if he was home, only to be told by the old woman that her boy and his wife were both killed at Pearl Harbor! As the psychiatrist ponders the matter, his patient falls asleep on the couch and dreams that he's back in Hawaii just as the Japanese planes are arriving and beginning their attack. As the bombs explode around him, he shouts "I told you so! You wouldn't believe me!" Just then, the psychiatrist looks around his office and finds that he's alone! His patient has disappeared! He checks his appointment book, but he can't find any appointments for the day. Later on, he goes into a bar near the office and is shocked to see on the wall behind the bartender a picture of the man he thought was in his office before. He asks the barman who's in the photo and is told that it's a fellow who used to work in the bar -- and was killed at Pearl Harbor! Unfortunately, many of the network honchos were uneasy about the tale's ambiguous ending, so after it was over, Desi Arnaz came out to offer his "logical" explanation, in which he wondered whether the main character really went back in time or even if he existed, and suggested that the psychiatrist saw the man's photograph in the bar and had a dream about him, then added, "If anybody has any other explanations, please let me know." This led one TV critic to write "GO HOME, DESI!"

Have a fun fact that I found interesting: Even though the original story of Sleepy Hollow still ends with the fate of Ichabod as ambiguous, it also throws in the implication that Brom was the headless horseman in disguise, just trying to scare Ichabod away or kill him so that he'll stop pursuing Katrina. I'll let all of you decide if that makes the headless horseman any scarier or not.
