I went to see my Dr just the other day and he told me something out of the blue. "I dont think I work for a healthcare system, when I look at my peers, they're less healthy than most of my patients. I work for a sickcare system" he has dedicated his life to health and the system he works inside of makes people sick. He isn't allowed to give the medicine that he knows works a lot of the time. He said "the way things are going, if I want to actually heal people I'm gonna have to become a quack"

In college I had to cook for myself. After one year of processed food I said there has to be a better way to eat! My dear friend gave me the cookbook “More with Less” written by a Mennonite woman. It changed my life and subsequently the lives of my family and many of my friends forever and for good! The introduction to this cookbook written in the 1970s was spot on in the criticism of the processed food industry. I have avoided highly processed food since and am the better for it. Homemade is the best!!

I was told I was pre-diabetic in March of this year. I am 57. I was 225 lbs. I'm 6 feet tall. In 4 months I've lost almost 40 lbs. All processed - GONE By gone, I mean GONE. Meat, fish, eggs, some vegetables (spinach, broc, tomatoes, cucumber, brussels, mushrooms) and some fresh fruit (watermelon, orange, apple) and a little dairy (a little cheese, h n h for coffee, butter for cooking) Coffee, tea, water. That's it. I'm 187. BP is 114/74. Do it. DO NOT refer to your change as a DIET. Refer to how you eat and what you eat as EATING.

I just finished the Daily Wire section and very much agree with Max: prioritize protein and the rest will fall into place. I have found that to be successful as well. I do eggs for breakfast, hamburger and salad for midday meal, and a protein such as fish or tuna or chicken, with a starchy veg like broccoli, for supper. And blueberries and strawberries for high quality carbohydrates. I do one cheat meal a week and then right back on the low carb diet. I do occasional carbs during the day but keep them between 50-100 grams at most. A cooking oil with a high smoke point is avocado oil, which is having a moment and is highly recommended. Coconut oil is good too if you can tolerate it, but many people can’t. I can’t. Following this lifestyle I was able to lose enough baby weight to wear a beautiful blue dress to see Dr. Peterson’s Boston lecture. I had purchased the dress two years prior but had not been able to wear it. After six months of low carb, I could. I am not where I want to be because I want to keep this lifestyle sustainable by slow and gradual and consistent change, but thank God I’m not where I used to be. I loved Max quoting Ram Dass: “We’re all just walking each other home.” So we are. What touched me most deeply, though, was the common understanding that these heart projects, like my books, like Max’s documentary, take years of dedicated hard work before anyone sees it and before we have anything to show for our years of work. We walk by faith, not by sight. And it is absolutely true we wouldn’t begin if we knew how hard it would be but once we do, we are in. We’re all in. And it takes that undefinable quality of gumption to finish what you begin. Love from Ruth Anne

I’m on a low Fodmap diet due to severe gastrointestinal problems. The diet turned things around for me. No wheat, no processed food, no garlic or onion ( as I tested positive for fructan sensitivity), and NO FAST FOODS. I feel better than I have ever felt in my life as a Boomer. For me, it’s high protein meals, moderate non-wheat carbs, and low fruit and veggies ( mostly greens and green beans, carrots, limited amounts of frozen corn). This is based on research from Monash University. I was so badly off I had to quit my job. I’m now a new person due to the research at Monash University in Australia!

Actually its quite easy, its the ability to change that diet that is difficult, how many can afford the proper diet nowadays? I am one of those, I know and care of what I eat, yet I cannot afford to eat healthy, in fact even living off of foodbanks, you NEVER get anything healthy, you get almost expired foods or breads and things high in sugars and sodium. Even worse, if your a single male like myself, they give little to nothing and expect you to be satisfied with that. Its tough to eat properly, with how those in power manage things, misinforming and keeping good foods for the money.

It's just a decent amount of forethought and discipline.

@andrewvarcoe4741 I just said that in a comment. Between the lies and the prices, I don't see how anyone can eat proper food. I was blessed to be able to raise my sons before now. I'm blessed now to have the land for a small homestead. My sons are single with very good paying jobs and they can afford the good stuff and I taught them how to cook and the dangers of pre prepared foods. But they are extremely blessed. If they didn't have those jobs or if they were trying to put food on the table for families, oh my Lord, they couldn't do it. They just flat out couldn't do it. My heart truly goes out to you and everyone who is just trying to eat right. The most basic fundamental of life, to just eat decent food, is unattainable for most people. This world is truly twisted. I wish I could just bring everyone home for a good, holsome, home cooked meal.

Who, specifically, were you listening to? A nutritionist? There's no such thing as a nutritionist. Anyone with a opinion and a sphincter can call themselves a nutritionist. A dietitian (or dietician) is entirely different, requiring years of actual education. So if a nutritionist told you to stop eating red meat, perhaps you weren't skeptical enough of your source. Which is also why it might make sense to be skeptical of Lugavere, whose expertise is in journalism.

A german perspective: We have fresh food in every supermarket and it is cheep. We have healthy (dark) bread availible everywhere. We have at least decent kitchens in all houses and flats. Most people don't face major difficulties when they decide to eat healthy or not highly processed food respectively. And people want that because they know it is good for them. The problem is: how do you come to know that? I grew up in the 80ies 90ies in western germany. My grand parants owned a small farm that was still active until I was 5. My grand mother had two gardens and we had some fields growing wheat and potatoes. Some of them where next to the house I grew up in. From the window of my room I could see cows, pigs and sheep on the meadows next to the farm. Once a year the butcher came to kill and process the whole animal. Nothing was wasted. So I had a lot of exposure to local agriculture. My grand mother always told me how badly fed people were after the war. I should eat varied food, drink milk and balance protein, carbon hydrates and fat. I was taught by my family what is healthy and that sweeets are for special moments. I was taught how to cook (as a male). When I became an adult I learned that these experiences make a difference in how you look at nutrition. For me it was always clear and easy what I needed to do to be healthy. That is not the case for everyone. It is harder to understand when you don't experience what growing food, raising animals and cooking meals is all about. Stardew Valley doesn't give you that experience. But in the end it all comes down to adopting responsibilty for your life. In Germany it seems to be easier to do so.
@NicholasBrakespear
@NicholasBrakespear 3 месяца назад
"But in the end it all comes down to adopting responsibilty for your life" Consider the history behind the advent and aggressive pushing of high fructose corn syrup in America, and then later across the wider Western world. Consider also the broken science behind a major study that told everyone to cut fat from their diet, not sugar. It's easy to talk about what people know... but how many people actually know that fructose - fruit sugar - is metabolised almost identically to alcohol, is highly addictive, and suppresses the satiety hormone? We give it to kids, across the world. Then there's the fact that low fibre, high fructose food... doesn't spoil. So it's much, much cheaper; it's cheaper to produce, cheaper to transport. Meanwhile, doctors all across the Western world - who aren't necessarily taught anything about nutrition (it's not actually required, bizarrely) - have spent years telling people that the solution to their excessive fructose consumption... is to exercise. To put it another way - you can say it's about adopting responsibility for your life... but is it your responsibility when you think it's healthy to stay hydrated, and you have no idea that your water supply is contaminated with a poison, and when you go to the doctor to figure out why you're feeling so ill, the doctor tells you to exercise more, which makes you thirstier, which makes you drink more of the contaminated water?

A couple of things. First the fruits and vegetables we have today are way different than anything our ancestors had. They have been cross-bred over and over to produce fruits with way more fructose (sugar) and vegetables bred for rapid growth and yield. So in a way today's fruits and vegetables are processed foods! Our species are the decedents of hunter/gatherers. Our digestive systems are specifically designed to easily digest and exploit the nutrients in game (meat, fish, poultry) as the primary food and to a far lesser extent to digest plants. The claim that fruits and vegetables are good for us is a bit of a stretch. It is actually better to say game is good for us and fruits and vegetables are somewhat useful if you can't access game. However, the truth is, you don't have to ever eat any fruits or vegetables if you eat the entire animal. Eskimos do this. They eat fish, seals, Caribou etc. There are no plants to eat, yet they have excellent health. Keep in mind, they waste nothing of an animal. They eat every edible part including organs, blood and bone marrow and even boil the bones to make broth. They don't have any nutritional deficits because the animals they eat, eat vegetation, plankton, seaweed etc. They also have excellent eyesight and no tooth decay or gum disease. They don't have Osteoporosis or heart disease and never heard of diabetes.

@@johnofroncesvalles4255 That's the important thing - in season. We now eat fruit all year-round, which we are not built for. When you think about the bulk of fruit consumption, it tends to happen at the end of summer - harvest time, and the run-up to winter. The point, then, is that any possible excess weight gain... was useful in the past, because it helped us survive potential food shortages over winter. The world and everything in it was a pretty well designed mechanism, whether you believe in god or evolution; it was well built. And we came along and decided to put sugar in the tank, and a banana up the tail pipe, then wandered around looking confused when the car wouldn't start.

I actually loathe the term "genetically predisposed to..." in people. Because it's like saying rainbows just randomly appear. No, actually, a series of natural events occur to TRIGGER the rainbows' appearance. People are not genetically predisposed to autoimmune disease. They are TRIGGERED by unnatural environmental factors caused by manufacturing processes.
@xmyxymx
@xmyxymx 3 месяца назад
The term is most definitely abused and used everywhere where it shouldn’t. However, some people are generally predisposed to certain things meaning they have genes that are responsible for certain processes, diseases etc. for example, some people have MTHFR gene mutations, which affects enzymes ability to process folate and convert homocysteine to methionine efficiently. This makes them genetically predisposed to a whole range of issues such as cardiovascular diseases - elevated homocysteine (they can’t convert it) is a huge risk factor for heart disease, stroke and other vascular conditions. It’s also a risk factor for blood clots, miscarriages, neural tube defects, depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, migraines, some recent research also shows the links to Alzheimers disease and so on and so forth. B vitamins are critical and unfortunately with this gene mutation you will be predisposed unless you do something about it (for example supplement with specific form of B vitamins to help the body to make all the necessary conversions). However, with some other genetic predisposition the environment that the person creates for these genes dictate its expression. So this is epigenetics we’re talking about. For instance, if one has genes that may lead to obesity and another person doesn’t = if they both eat the same diet, the one predisposed genetically to obesity will gain more weight. However, it doesn’t mean, that this person is guaranteed to become obese UNLESS they create the environment for these genes to start expressing themselves meaning if they eat healthy and never “trigger” their genes to express- it’s not gonna happen. So one can blame their genes all they want - in the long run, it’s their lifestyle and THEY are the ones who trigger the genes. Doctors however blame absolutely everything and anything on genes without any understanding what they’re talking about.
@CK-solutions
@CK-solutions 3 месяца назад
@@xmyxymx I agree lifestyle is the crucial factor for optimising health outcomes. But don't agree it's down to genes. Obesity is not a fat storage problem allocated to genes. There is no such fat gene that inclines you to become obese. What individuals have is an insulin resistance issue, and hormonal imbalance in general. All autoimmune disease, is related to the endocrine system. Hormones are the canaries in the mineshaft, connected to the autonomic nervous system in the body - responsible for hormone release and things like heartbeat. Lifestyle is the one thing that can bring a dysregulated autonomic nervous system, back into balance. Which allows the endocrine system to regulate hormone release that sustains the body. Our food system and environment however, is rife with chemicals that constantly interfere with the endocrine system. These are the cause, not the genes. When individuals believe it's just their gene pool, they won't delve deeper into the medical research that explains how the body regulates itself for optimal health.
@CK-solutions
@CK-solutions 3 месяца назад
@@xmyxymx I don't know a lot about the MTHFR mutation specifically, but after reading briefly it's really just a hypothesis. Which is why it's termed as "may" cause the listed symptoms. When it's recommended there's no benefit shown from routine testing of high-risk candidates, it indicates they don't know a lot about it. Which makes it the perfect candidate to blame genetic predisposition - and mile high club of likely outcomes. What makes it a mutation though? I note that it's most likely to occur in the hispanic population, who happen to be the least likely to afford the foods naturally containing vitamin B. So it's not a case that you're genetically predisposed to it. It's a socio economic predisposition. This is why I loathe the term, genetically predisposed. It doesn't ask the bigger questions. It's academic apathy that puts it all under the one banner.
@xmyxymx
@xmyxymx 3 месяца назад
@@CK-solutions You're wrong about "there is no such fat gene that inclines you to become obese". Yes, there are several genes that can predispose an individual to obesity. These genes can influence various factors - appetite regulation, fat storage, and energy expenditure. For example: FTO (Fat Mass and Obesity-Associated Gene): Variants in this gene are strongly linked to higher body mass index (BMI) and increased risk of obesity. The FTO gene *affects appetite regulation and energy balance* MC4R (Melanocortin 4 Receptor Gene): Mutations in *this gene can lead to severe obesity.* The MC4R gene is involved in the *regulation of food intake and energy expenditure.* LEP (Leptin Gene): Leptin is a hormone that helps regulate body weight by signaling the brain to reduce appetite and increase energy expenditure. *Mutations in the LEP gene can lead to leptin deficiency, resulting in uncontrolled appetite and obesity.* LEPR (Leptin Receptor Gene): This gene encodes the leptin receptor. *Mutations can lead to leptin resistance, where the body does not respond properly to leptin signals, causing increased food intake and obesity.* PPARG (Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma Gene): This gene plays a role in fat cell development and metabolism. *Variants in PPARG can affect how the body stores and uses fat, contributing to obesity.* ADIPOQ (Adiponectin Gene): Adiponectin is a hormone that helps regulate glucose levels and fatty acid breakdown. *Variants in the ADIPOQ gene can affect the levels of adiponectin, influencing fat metabolism and obesity risk.* BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Gene): This gene is involved in the regulation of appetite and energy balance. *Variants in BDNF can affect eating behavior and body weight.* TCF7L2 (Transcription Factor 7-Like 2 Gene): *This gene is associated with insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, which are often linked to obesity. Variants in TCF7L2 can influence body weight regulation.*

@@CK-solutions nobody claims that chemicals and toxicity don't interfere with health and everything is down to genes.Of course it's not, that why I said EPIGENETICS are extremely important, it's the environment that trigger the genes to express, however some mutations are just there and they are goin to interfere with a persons life no matter what they do. You don't know enough information on genetics to claim there are no genes that affect or cause obesity, there are quite a few and for some people its much harder to control their weight due to these genes no matter how great their lifestyle is than for others. its just a fact, its silly to argue against it.

Does anyone wanna contemplate Luke 17:33 in regard to bodily health? “If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.” I like a strange spiritual puzzle like this. What does it mean? It seems so strange that we would be asked not to cling to life and that clinging might actually be costing us life. A basic analysis or question I would just have for those who think a lot about the health of their body… Let’s say you have a healthy body, what would you do with it? Would you really live? Would you awaken the spirit with your healthy body, would you search for deep truths with your healthy body? Or just let the days and nights go by taking the healthy body for granted… I think that’s the meaning of that teaching. Don’t focus so much on the body that you forget the spirit, for the spirit is your life, not the body.

Animal sourced food, if the animal feed contains growth hormones and antibiotics, or agents to artificially stimulate weight gain of animals before slaughter ends up in human beings. Cows raised in pastures/meadows grazing on grass does not happen today.

It's interesting - when I was weaning off 40 years of benzos that these "doctors" put me on - (and of course not even one of these clowns knew how to get me off of them- don't even get me started...), one result of that life threatening withdrawal was multi-systemic inflammation and pain. So I desperately wanted to rapidly change the way I ate to reduce pain and inflammation. I'm in Canada. No dr or dietician could advise me how to change what I ate, to reduce pain and inflammation? So were these medical professionals pretending to not know, or did they really not know??? God have mercy on us when patients must figure out everything on their own.

As is the case for many things, possibly most things, there are multiple contributing factors to dementia and Alzheimer’s... but a primary causal mechanism is insulin resistance, preventing the brain from utilizing glucose for energy. Polyunsaturated fat and carbohydrates are the main culprits of insulin resistance, as well as numerous other metabolic diseases. And that insulin resistance problem can be bypassed and possibly corrected on a ketogenic diet... ketones do not require insulin or any other compound to allow it to be utilized by our mitochondria for energy.

Everybody has an idea of what's healthy and thinks they're right. I'm so glad for the alternative health space bc it pushes back on the conventional government/expert approved nutrition advice. BUT the alternative health space is also full of bad advice. If I'm being honest, the best I've ever felt is on a high carb, unlimited sugar, high dairy, low meat diet. The worst was on a high meat, high fat diet. People get so angry when you say that sugar is a health food, but the evidence is there. You've just never been told that before.

It's all about the Randle cycle. You either gotta go high carb/low fat or low carb/high fat. You never want to mix high carb and high fat. That confuses your metabolism and blunts you satiation mechanisms. Your body cant process both sources of energy at the same time. What people consider "sugar" and bad for you are actually things that have a ton of sugar and fat. Like candy bars, ice cream, baked goods, pasta dishes, etc. Those are all high sugar + high fat foods and tend to have tons of other highly processed ingredients in them. Sugar is the easiest source of energy for our bodies and not bad for you on its own. We would not have such a specific taste mechanism for sweet if sugar was bad for us. When we were hunter gatherers, if something tasted sweet to us, we knew it was safe to eat. I think this guy is on point in saying that a Carnivore diet should be used therapeutically. I think long term, it causes cortisol levels to stay too elevated. Carbs do something unique to our nervous system that protein and fat can't.

Your correct to a point in your statement but let's not forget. It takes an intelligent person to become a Dr or leader in their field. It's easy to discount someone completely because you don't agree with them or they might not have a peice of paper saying they are an expert but knowledge isnt restricted solely to people that pay to recieve it. There is value in intelligent people asking questions and having conversations about important topics.

I have a family of 9 and we're in Australia where the cost of living was pretty bad before but now it's terrible. Food is so expensive. I try very hard to do it right, but it's very challenging. There is no way I can afford any type of salmon, let alone the expensive kind! Grass fed organic meats are just not something I can afford. I wish I could because that's my preference, but it's not realistic unfortunately.

Certainly. If you grow a garden and hunt/fish, it's very good for you. I mostly eat meat, and venison is amongst my top favorite foods. Deer can become overpopulated, amongst many other animals. Fructose is metabolised like alcohol, is highly addictive, and suppresses the satiety hormone. It's in sweet foods, it's in savoury foods, and it's often not even labelled properly; it is in all of the cheaper food, across the Western world, while the price of "real" food has gone up and up. A monkey knows that it needs to drink water. But if you poison the water, does the monkey know that it should stop drinking the water, even though it's thirsty?

As in all things, a healthy dose of skepticism will serve one well. What are Lugavere's qualifications? Why should we trust what he says? If there is a conflict between his claims and claims reached through repeated scientific inquiry, what measurement rubric is to be used to determine fact? What is Lugavere's bias? Who is paying him? I'm *not* suggesting he's wrong. I *am* suggesting that, just as one should examine influences and biases in science, so too should we examine influences and biases in people such as Lugavere.

@@NicholasBrakespear Personally, I'm not familiar with Dr Lustig, but skepticism still matters. I can find board certified physicians that sincerely believe that disease is a result of demonic erotic dreams. You can't make this up. Search out Dr Stella Immanuel. Point is, Dr Lustig may very well be right. So let's see his research protocols, his literature review, his peer-reviewed publications. Believing someone carte blanche simply because they appear not to be part of the "establishment" is just as ludicrous as believing someone only because they _are_ part of the establishment. Dr Richard Feynman said it best: "If it disagrees with experiment, it's wrong. And that simple statement is the key to science. It doesn't make any difference how beautiful your guess is, it doesn't make any difference how smart you are, who made the guess, or what his name is. If it disagrees with experiment, it's wrong."

I am so sick of people talking about body builders like they are examples of 'fitness'. The vast majority of them have no stamina, endurance, explosive strength, agility, flexibility, balance, cardio strength, and really for many of them, not really all that much strength even within the incredibly narrow specific kind of strength they actually train. They also have no longevity, and whatever strength they have turns to fat instead of lean muscle mass as they age. They are building an appearance. Not fitness.

From what I gathered so far it means tripling a company's R&D budget, reduce the amount of water, fuel, and fertilizer used, ensure a diverse workforce, and create and require close adherence to "compliance" with these and other initiatives. I haven't seen the part where they encourage maximizing production. Its not nearly impactful for Americans as it will be for the third world. I know we won't be able to sustain this for long.

Grains are low in nutruients because after they're milled they sit on a shelf for long periods of time, which causes the nutrients to oxidize. Grains have to be consumed shortly after being milled unless your fermenting the dough. And corn of course has to soak in an alkaline solution first to create hominy. Otherwise your body won't be able to properly digest it.

Now I eat two eggs per day, about two or three times per week. Listen to your body. Your mind and body work together toward a perfect Union. It’s a quiet understanding that I’m blessed to have. In order to achieve this a person needs to focus on physical fitness and perhaps this will encourage your mental stability. Beyond this experience, move forward with spiritual and psychological stability. It’s good stuff that will, without a doubt strengthen your wherewithal.
