Had the good fortunate to meet Desi Jr. at a Lucille Ball Festival in Jamestown, NY. Was able to get pics with him, autograph, and brief conversation. Wonderful memory.
i always forget they have that whole thing over there in jamestown once a year i think or maybe more idk. haha i live like 45 mins away from that town and never once checked it out maybe one of these years i will. but honestly was never a huge lucy fan. although mad credit to what she was.
The little boy shown talking to Dinah Shore was not Desi Arnaz Jr, I believe that was Keith Thibodeaux who played Little Ricky on "I Love Lucy." I'm very glad Desi Arnaz Jr was able to get past his addiction problems, I feel so badly for all the tragedies he's seen, I wish him the peace he so deserves.
Yes, I thought the same thing. Also, Thibodeaux was never mentioned in the I Love Lucy credits. Sad since all others were... "So & So was played by So & So" but Keith was totally ignored and I never understood why.
His name was considered too unpronoucable for American audiences at the time. So he was billed as Richard Keith..if u google u will see him. All grown up lol
I admire Desi for kicking the habit, being a former addict myself, I fully understand what he went through, it's very hard to get off that merry-go-round but it can be done.

Desi Jr turned his life completely around. He was an extremely good looking young man in the 1970s, which was a very hedonistic time, and struggled to find his footing. Who didn’t? So did I! God bless him, he’s done so well.
They did a television special a few years ago about their famous parents. You could actually sense quite a bit of distance between them. You could sense that they hadn't spent a lot of time together for quite awhile, and they had very different feelings about the past. It felt "awkward".
Definitely that kid is the boy that played little ricky. He has a bunch of different last names, LOL! The last name they used on I Love Lucy is definitely not his real name. I think he was credited as Keith Richards on I Love Lucy which is a made-up name.
My favorite memories of Desi Jr. is Dino, Desi, and Billy! I was a huge fan, and I have remained a fan of him and his bandmates to this day! I was a teenager during the Dino Desi and Billy days, but to me Desi is an inspiration to all who are facing the same demons that he was able to overcome...blessings to you Desi!
I had a poster of Dino, Desi, & Billy on my bedroom wall. I have the same bday as Desi Jr, but I'm a few yrs younger. Desi Jr was so gorgeous. But-I was madly in love w Dino Jr. A drop dead gorgeous blonde. Felt so bad for his family when he died. I think Dino Sr wished he could've gone w his son. He seemed like he didn't care about life anymore. I watched everything Desi Jr was in. He was as talented as he was handsome. So sad to hear about his wife & granddaughter passing. Always wondered what happened to him? Relieved & happy he got his life together. I recall back then he seemed to be in one scandal after another. For awhile it was even assumed that he had fathered Patty Duke's son Sean-whose dad was the great "Gomez Addams"-John Astin. Desi Jr became more known for his player ways than his talent back then. Always knew about Lucille Ball being nothing like Lucy Ricardo. But-consider how her husband abused their relationship-cheating, boozing, & plenty of verbal abuse. I hope Desi Jr gets through losing his wife & granddaughter & has faith in God to get through it all.
When Dino, Desi and Billy and I worked together, when he was singing as I was, I liked him very much. He was pleasant and nice to be around. I wish him all the best in the years to come. Barbara Lewis
I love your songs and enjoy singing along, especially Hello Stranger, Baby, I'm Yours and Make Me Your Baby...you are blessed with a beautiful voice! Take care, Gayle Haas
Hello Stranger always makes me cry but I always love to listen to it. Your voice is beautiful and so are your songs. Ms. Lewis, you are a gift to the world.
@@suzanne1430 -- Are You serious or are you facetious? Little Ricky on I Love Lucy was played by 5 different children and none of them are Desi Jr. I only have a name for 1. Five Little Rickys: 1. Newborn shown only once as Desi holds baby on his shoulder and Vivian enters to see baby and then Desi does a Remember When? to lead into a rerun. 2. Infant. Shown when the Ricardos still lived in the smaller apartment. 3. and 4. Toddler. Played by a set of identical twins. We see them when the Ricardos move to the bigger apartment and while they’re in Hollywood and in Europe and Lucy’s mother keeps the baby. 5. 3 years old and up. Until end of series. Keith Thibodeaux. Desi couldn’t pronounce Thibodeaux, so he was billed as Richard Keith. He was chosen for the role partly because of his ability to play the drums. He and Desi Jr were BFFs. I loved when he guest hosted SATURDAY Night Live years ago. He’s very talented and he recently co executive produced “Being The Ricardos”. . We all have difficulty as teens and young adults regardless of who our parents are. It seems to me he turned out to be a very fine man.
The little boy in the scene with Dinah Shore was not Desi Junior. It was the little boy who played the part of little Ricky Ricardo on the sitcom. Also, Amy had a daughter before she was married to Desi Jr. Haley was not his child.

I grew up with his wife, Amy Bargiel, in Las Vegas. Her mom was our Brownie leader. She was an amazing ballet dancer and danced with Nevada Dance Theatre (now Nevada Ballet Theatre.) When I was an adult, I took her adult ballet class at UNLV. She started a wonderful ballet school in Boulder City, which I visited. She and Desi Jr. made each so very happy. I could not believe it when I heard of her passing.

Truth. His heart was breaking all the way to his drug dealer, all the way to get help from Mommy and Daddy, and all the way to the bank. He made his own choices and then had to deal with the consequences of those choices.
@@cmm2145 It seems that no one was noticing how wacky everything in his life was looking to him. We can't expect a very young person to reason their way through a situation like his where nothing much made sense and drugs and adulation were flooding in. Seems the adults in his life were too caught up in their own struggles to notice he was drowning. I hadn't heard about his long, stable marriage either! I guess happy news just doesn't sell like sadness and struggles. Hopefully we're learning that people aren't born knowing how to make it through life without the occasional help of caring, intelligent, people who take the time to "walk a mile in their shoes." It really does take a village to raise children, and after that, we need to be kind and helpful to each other one.
@@diananutt1517 - I believe that the point made by the OP is that calling his life “heartbreaking” is absurd. Yes, he struggled. But we *all* struggle with something. Down here where us middle class peons live there is much more genuine “heartbreaking” stuff going on. There are drug addicts and promiscuous people in our neck of the woods too but they don’t have parents who have millions of dollars and popular celebrity status to buy the kid’s way out of the mess he got himself into. Desi Jr had wealthy parents who could easily afford to send him to high scale rehab, etc. Most people don’t have that kind of a safety net. I’ll bet that Desi Jr never has had to seriously wonder where his next meal is coming from. I’ll bet he has no worries about whether or not he’ll have enough money to pay his rent or mortgage. I’ll bet that he’s never had any utilities turned off for failure to pay the bills. I’ll bet he never had a car totaled and had to figure out how and where to get the money to replace it And so on... I understand that he dealt with trauma at an early age from his parents arguing and then getting divorced. That’s traumatic for any child. Some, probably a lot, of children down here in middle class have the same problem I understand that no one was guiding him, that he was very young (13) and the brain doesn’t fully develop until around age 25 so he wasn’t equipped with what he needed in order to make good choices. I also understand that “the strongest role model for a child is the same sex parent”-Dr. Phil. and I understand that his father was modeling bad choices - women, alcohol, etc. and that probably looked like a fun life to a 13 year old boy. But, again, there are young teenage boys in middle class land whose fathers are modeling the same or worse. I know that drugs are readily available to anyone who has the money to pay. But no one is going to convince me that Desi Jr at age 13 didn’t know drugs were bad. He knew. But he did it anyway. So he knowingly made bad choices. And then he had to deal with the consequences of what he had chosen for himself
Love him, what an amazing man. Bless him and his family. We all have a story, know one has any right to judge another. God bless him and his family. 💜💜💜

A lot of them, whose parents are celebrities, get everything handed to them. They aren’t raised right and end up growing up without any direction. Therefore, when they’re on their own, they destroy themselves. That sounds like him. Who gets someone pregnant so young? Someone unsupervised.
@@deborahthomas3539 I don't think when you are talking about families that it's all black and white. I think there's a grey line that can go unnoticed. When you have so much money and you get married you want to have children. I think any family can have problems whether rich poor Hollywood or not. I really don't think there's such thing as a perfect family (except for tv show families). In the case of Lucy's family Lucy's daughter didn't have the same problems her brother did. I don't think its right to say that an unsupervised child will do something wrong . You still have to raise your child with trust, and being that he was so young when he did this even if he was supervised he would of found a time and place. because no one especially back then would suspect this ever happening. I feel sorry for the girl he got pregnant back then. She at least with the help of her Mom and Dad raised her daughter (or maybe put her daughter up for adoption) in a time period where she would of been treated quite horribly. Ricky, didn't find out about this daughter until she was older, thank goodness he was wealthy enough to pay for her college. She could of reached out to him earlier, but chose not to. Maybe if she did, He would of been put into the situation of learning to become a Dad . Responsibility has a way of straightening people out . Sometimes when responsibility is thrust upon us, so quickly, we jump into action. This keeps us busy and our heads on straight. Especially when you hold that little one in your arms for the first time, that is when you learn its not about you anymore. He could of completely destroyed his life with the drugs . Thank our Lord, He didn't, what a tragedy that would have been. Will Smith and his wife Jada Pickett Smith have a big their family and they seem to be doing great. They're a a close loving family. Whenever, Will or Jada are asked to do a movie, they work, but the work schedule works with, and in agreeance to the family, always being first. I think that is what children need, they just need there parents to be there.
Boredom and Confusion about identity ... when all your needs are met. You have no direction or internal motivation to achieve something g despite you want for nothing... the children of celebrities fall into this same trap more often than not

There's nothing wrong with people having empathy for other's "rich or poor" we all suffer (differently, yes) but we do suffer. Being privileged doesn't make addiction easy, addiction eventually swallows up all your money and by then you have wore out your welcome with your family and friends. It destroys your life, It steals a great portion of yourself psychologically and health wise. Most people age very quickly. When the person doing these drugs finally caves in and asks for help -It's not going to be in and out of the Rehab Center. Getting off these drugs are hell. hmmmmm So, you were saying Privileged??? Except from waking up in a cleaner room with cleaner clothes on - Providing you don't die because your body just finally wore out from the stress and strain. I would say, It could of been tragic, But was one of the lucky ones.

ROFLMAO! DESI JR DID NOT PLAY DESI JR ON I LOVE LUCY. Geeze do some research. That was an actor Keith Thibadeux. (SP) This narrator doesnt have a clue. Outta here.
This is a true story! In April of 1981, I went to Las Vegas my best friend and I went to Las Vegas on vacation. I also wanted to visit my other friend who moved there the year before. I met a guy at a dance club called, Jublication. That guy told me he could get me into a movie playing an extra. Of course, I said, sure! The main character in the movie was Desi Arnez Jr. It was 40 years ago this year so my memory of it may be off as far as Desi being the actor or director or possibly both. I was a person in the audience of this movie where we all had to scream because a car was coming into the audience. That was my part. We had to do it over and over again and I remember Desi seemed very in edge. I mean, extremely so. He seemed like he may have been high on something. Possibly cocaine or methamphetamine, but I'm not sure but he was not acting normal. He was very handsome at the time in 1981. I got paid $35.00 for working through the night as an extra. I can't remember the name of the movie but it didn't make it on the big screen or any screen as far as I know.
Yes, and he was with Duke during her infamous Academy Award acceptance, when she was so very, very high. I think he was too by the way her behavior didn't seem to faze him much. It's here on youtube.
My heart breaks for him because of the life he was brought up in. The odds weren't in his favor. Alcoholism is genetic and many problem drinkers have addiction and dysfunctional family lives. I can imagine the pressure he lived with being the son of an alcoholic and very famous parents. It's great knowing he got sober. All the money you could ever want, won't give you peace if you were raised by people who have major issues, and such dysfunctional lives.
I was the oldest of 4 children raised in Such a dysfunctional family in LA, Hollywood & now well into My Senior yrs & I'm Still Somewhat Wresting with that Family of origin dysfunctional insanity almost on a daily basis... Thank you, Ilene, for sharing
Realisticly speaking Desi Jr couldn't have played himself. TV sitcom time is not the same as real time. The Little Ricky character age line advanced at triple the speed of the real Desi soon becoming age 3 in the storyline while Desi was bearly over a year old.
It’s understandable why he chooses to stay out of the spotlight. He doesn’t need the pressure of Hollywood anymore. I wish him the best and may his remaining years remain peaceful so he can be finally enjoy his senior years.🙏🏻❤️🌈
My memory of Desi Arnaz Jr. was, Wow what a handsome young man. I love his rock group Dino, Desi. He was very talented. Sorry to hear of his wifes passing. Wishing you all the very best Desi
It's so hard to be the child of famous parents. The kids feel they have to live up to some image. Desi was so handsome and I'm happy he is now okay and living what I hope is a good life in Colorado.
Being the son of such a powerful celebrity couple would be tough. So very sad that his wife died of a brain tumor. I didn't even know he was married. He and his wife looked very happy together. I'm sure the media following him around didn't help his situation as a young man. He is very handsome like his father.
I am sorry for kids who grow up really poor in this country: Homeless, little food, education or anything. Also they do not have green lights for getting into professions that will make them lots of money. Poor Desi Jr. probably inherited millions from both his father and his mother - as well as the prestige that being their son afforded him.
It does the youth of today a massive disservice if we all express sympathy for these people born into wealth and fame without having any ingrained responsibility for their self destructive behaviour. Tell it like it is; he was stupid and irresponsible and it took him the better part of 50 years to get his act together. In any normal world environment that would be termed a failure by any sensible person and nothing to be empathic with.
People take drugs or drink when they are young or old and become addicted. People are given legal drugs by doctors and many become addicts. Giving up an addiction is never easy and anyone no matter their age that manages to do that is not a failure but definitely a success!
And then there is the story in the Bible of the prodigal son. The moral of that story is that the parent celebrated the prodigal son coming home, whilr the other son who never left didn’t understand the father treating the prodigal son so well. The father had to explain to his son that his brother was gone but now he is home and that is cause for celebration. The same sentiment is caprured in a song with the lyrics: “I once was lost but now I’m found; was blind but now I see.” The title of that song is Amazing Grace because it is an amazing grace when someone who was lost in their life finds the right path regardless of when that happens, it is always an amazing grace when it does happen.
Desi Jr. lived in the same apartment building as my mom did in Beverly Hills, & one day I was asked by a valet worker to take his car keys to him to his apartment, that was exciting he answered &I gave him his keys. I enjoyed watching "I Love Lucy."
it seems that Desi Jr. had a fragile ego and felt upstaged by the child actor who portrayed him....sounds kind of weak to blame your addictions on...but some folks have a fragile mental state.
The chocolate factory scene is not "infamous." Come on, that's one of the most beloved comedy scenes in history. Why would you refer to it as something of infamy?
@@lisam8402 I also studied with Christina Carson when Amy did. (you and I probably knew each other as well!) She taught ballet in her studio in Boulder City when I taught in mine in Las Vegas. I went to a few of the productions she put on in the Boulder City Theater she and Desi Jr. purchased and her students were absolutely charming. Amy was indeed a sweet person and I miss her every day.
Linda Belew Wow what a history. I took from Virginia Lee but Christina Carson was known for ballet. I was taking class from Teddy Wolff at Backstage and Amy was too. Then I moved to NYC and she married Gary soon after. What a small world. Nevada Dance Theatre had excellent dancers and I went to all their performances at Judy Bailey. Nice memories!
So many children of successful and famous people have a hard time establishing their own identities, outside of the shadow of their parents. It’s almost a curse. Fortunately, Desi did escape the hell of drug abuse, and settled down to a happy and lasting marriage.
I remember him from House of the Long Shadows when I was a kid. It was the only horror movie my mother let me watch because of him... and Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee...
I always wondered why Desi Arnez Jr. didn't play the role of "Little Ricky on the "I Love Lucy show. The little boy who played "Little Ricky, also played on "The Andy Griffith Show as one of Opie's pals. Desilu Productions is the studio the "The Andy Griffith Show was filmed. Desi Jr. looks a lot like his father at 8:52 when his dad was older. Everyone has issues in their lives. Problems don't go away, no matter how much money you have.
Unfortunate we either become the product of our environment or learn HOW NOT TO BE.... Arnaz Jr learned to repeat his Father's extra marital affairs and Lucy Jr learned how NOT TO BE...following her Mothers loyalty
Thank You for sharing. We all have challenges in our lives it is how we handle them that gets us through it. Also if we have family and friends that help us through it.
He really didn't throw it all away, he just made a course correction. I remember seeing him in 1986 or so on a Minneapolis talk show, and all he wanted to do was talk about the New Life thing. He got increasingly ticked off at the host, Gene Rump, for asking about his famous parents. I twigged then that he was fanatical about his guru because he was consumed with the battle of his life. _For_ his life.

Poor Desi! It's so hard growing up privileged. All that wealth, comfort, fame, good looks. It's suggest a burden. I don't know how anyone manages to cope!
I liked Desi's appearance on The Brady Bunch when Cindy accidentally gave Marcia's diary to a second hand bookstore for a fundraiser. Marcia had written about how she was crazy about Desi Arnaz Jr. and was worried about other people reading what she wrote. A nice episode all around.
Thank goodness Carol and Cindy found that diary and also that Alice was friends with Lucy’s housekeeper. Alice really came thru for Marcia like she pretty much always did!
I first fell for Desi Jr. when he was in the Dino, Desi and Billy Singing Group. I hadn’t heard of him after the band. Pretty much what I’d expected of him. Too much TV acting when so young, seems to bring out the worst in Celebrity’s Children. I hope he is at peace the rest of his life.
Not an easy life when you consider who his parent are. I always wondered why Desi wasn't used on I Love Lucy and what he thought. I thought it confusing myself as a kid. Just glad he got his act together. When Dino passed in his plane accident, it tore his father up it sounded like mentally. I always remember Dino, Desi, and Billy. What happened to Billy?
I think Lucy and Desi were smart not to have their own kids on the show. Acting is hard work and better to let them just be kids. On her later shows Lucy did have them on because they were old enough to learn about acting. She gave them experience.
@@eloiseockert6561 - Right. Keith Thibodeaux was an expert on playing the drums by age 3 and he had already been doing performances in the areas where he lived.

However, both parents felt it would not be right if the son were on and the daughter not on. Good decision on their part. Years later both were on one of the Lucy shows. I think that his parents must have told him why he wasn't on. He always seemed pretty spoiled to me. And was not as gifted as either of his parents. Why do I even watch "Facts" Verse? You guys ALWAYS get so much easily accessible info incorrect. Desi Jr. did NOT have a recurring role on The Lucy Show from 1962-65.
