Except he wasn't acting for alot of it. he literally just said everything he wanted to say to his father in real life who was an abusive alcoholic who would beat his mother. Here's an line from his book "As a child I'd always told myself that I would one day avenge my mother. That when I was big enough, when I was strong enough, when I was no longer a coward, I would slay him,"

When James Avery died, this was the scene I looked for. Saw this episode when it aired with my mother. She always wanted her woman chasing dad to want to be part of her life. She and my dad owned a statuary store in the 70s. When Will pulls out the present, she lost it. I told her, (me with the great parents) what I’d say to any who are left behind. You could have been the most spectacular human being, he still would have left. HE couldn’t handle anything. Child abandonment is the Ultimate “it’s not you, it’s him.”

I met my father one time on my 18th birthday. He shook my hand and said to me "well I'm here meeting you so what the f*** do you want from me?" I told him that there's nothing I want from him. He passed away about a week ago from a heart attack. Went to the funeral and met his family. He had love in his heart for them, but not for me. I was his mistake according to his family. I felt that way that Will expressed perfectly. I just wanted to leave a comment that expressed how I felt at my father.

This message goes out to everyone who has an absent parent in their lives (whether they are a mom, a dad, or both): I hope you know that you are not alone, and you have lots of other people who care about you, and love you! You are beautiful, talented, smart, and you have a promising future ahead of you! And if your mom/dad/parents didn't want to stick around and see how wonderful of a person you are, then that's their loss! You have other people in your life, and they're supporting you and rooting for you, especially me! You are not alone!

It's not so beautiful if you look into why Will so emotional during the scene. Will and his dad had a bad relationship due to his dad being a drunk who routinely beat his mother. Here's some lines from his book “When I was nine years old, I watched my father punch my mother in the side of the head so hard that she collapsed. I saw her spit blood,” “For failing her in that moment. For failing to stand up to my father. For being a coward.” “I decided to be funny. I wanted to please and placate him because as long as Daddio was laughing and smiling, I believed we would be safe. I was the entertainer in the family. I wanted to keep everything light and fun and joyful.”

This scene hits me hard everytime and makes me cry. I can really relate to this, 31 years old and I dont need my dad. But it hurts that he was never there for me, not in the little moments like Will mentioned and not in the big moments. He will never get to meet his grandson that's for damn sure and the only thing he ever taught me how you shouldnt be a dad. Been years since I have seen him but it still hurts me. I made peace with that but I will never ever understand why.

My dad taught me many things alright. He taught me that I should never be seen by my kids drinking alcohol, that I should always be by my kids no matter what, that it's not important how many women I have to let go, I'd linger with my kids till they need me no more.

Never met my biological dad… when I saw this scene, that hurt, because I could relate to that so much because I had that same thought for so long. Till I was old enough to realize, I don’t need him and I can make my own future and be a better person without him. Even then I knew, sure I wouldn’t get any fatherly advice… I’d have to go through the pain of finding it out for myself. Never really did learn how to pick my fights… but I did learn how to take a bigger beating than my opponent… and I made it where I am today without ever once seeing him. Clawed and climbed my way out from below the poverty line… climbed up to just below middle class. And I’m STILL workin on getting higher. Joined the military, used my GI Bill to get a trade, COVID sorta killed the market for employers to higher me for my trade and I don’t have a workshop to practice my trade in yet… but it’s a plan for now…. One I intend to put into motion just as soon as I’m able. So that I can make it to lower middle… and maybe keep elevating myself. And I’ll do it all without him.

@@Random_vids_girl I chose to prove many people wrong… many thought I’d be little more than hired muscle and id wind up with barely two nickels to rub together… decided to go into the Marines. Moms family has a tradition of College or the Military… but no one’s succeeded in getting into the Marines before me… some of the doubters were in moms family. I proved them wrong. I made it where they failed. I went on to be the first infantryman in the family since WWII. And despite many valiant efforts made by my enemy’s I am the only one to have served in a combat zone and NOT receive a Purple Heart. I got out… figured out that even though I’m good at it… it wasn’t exactly where I wanted to be. Took a lot of time before I stumbled into my trade and decided that THAT is what I wanted to do and doin it leaves me feeling fulfilled. That whole time I continued forging ahead to prove I would not be what many believed and that I would rise higher than they ever expected of me. At the same time I was proving to myself that I could forge ahead and find my own path with no fatherly guidance. That just because of the circumstances of my birth, and how I grew up… that they would not be the things that define me, that They wouldn’t limit me and any limits placed upon me were done so by me. I have a daughter… and I will not be missing from her life like my biological dad was for me. I will not drum insecurities and hate into her like my adopted dad did to me. I want to show her that she can decide her own future so long as she is determined enough to stick to whatever path she decides to go down.
