I like how it seemed like the show was building up Chota to betray his friends for Shibuki, yet he came thru the most out anyone - initially to be the most selfless to help Arisu get the chance to live. Karube and Arisu even showed moments for their survival instincts to kick in to look out for themselves first, while Chota accepted fate early to try to help his friends.

The thing is that it's not a game of betrayal, like we were told before that Hearts games are, but a game of sacrifice. At first we thought the wolf had to kill the sheep (cause that's the logical option). Later, that the wolf had to hide from the sheep (survival instinct tells us the 3 sheep will try to kill the wolf). But the truth is that the sheep have to hide from the wolf...in order for the wolf to survive. It's basically choosing a survivor and hiding so he/she stays alive, even against the chosen survivor's will. Sacrifice.

The sheep are supposed to hide to avoid survivors guilt. In a group of strangers they’d kill each other to survive but among friends it’s kinda like dodging the curse of living with the fact that your friends died.

I always thought labeling a Hearts game a "game of betrayal" is in itself a psychological game. Players see the Hearts on a card and everybody's ready to betray everyone for their own survival. Nobody would stop to think of solutions except being the last one standing. And everyone thinks everyone else thinks like that. Eat or be eaten, kill or be killed. That's what makes it seem difficult. Also, in the manga, each game specifies how many players can enter. This game only required 4, hence there were only 4 headsets. They even said they (Arisu's group) had a hard time looking for games and were stressed because it was Chota and Shibuki's last visa day. You would certainly think they were led to this game.

This is the real episode i was like oh shit there is no plot armor in this show, and i was hooked binged all after this haha

This series is really good ngl. This game of hearts is pretty straightforward. Only one will live by the end of the game, the reason why the sheep need to hide is that they need to make a decision who will they let live. It is mentioned but the Hearts game is the hardest one you can ever encounter.

To add to the post convo remember that heart games are psychological ones so they are suppose to get rid of logic and force you to use only emotion so planning isnt really going to work

Forshadowing in ep 1 when karube and choto did that mini independence party and before that karube also said if something survival happens (zombie or game cant remember), that Arisu has the best chance to survive more than him

Shibuki did play a hearts game. The first game she played was a 2 of hearts game, it wasn’t actually her fault that everyone died. They were all supposed to pick a train car, one would be safe and the others would fill with poisonous gas. She just got lucky and picked the right train car.

Keep in mind that for this particular one, they were targeted. If it's not the 4 of them, this 7 of hearts game will not be set up. This was exclusively for Arisu, Karube and Chota. It won't be a game of betrayal with a level 7 difficulty if the players are not friends. Coz then they'll just hack eo to death immediately.

If i remember, the producer or director of the show had actually mentioned in an interview that there was a way for them to pass this without casualties, but he never said what it was. I personally think the rules were to be followed exactly how they were written: the sheep hide from the wolf and as long as the wolf doesn’t spot them by the end of the timer they all win. It never mentions the sheep dying. The people who hide from the wolf are under the impression they’re sacrificing themselves so that the wolf (in this case Arisu) can win, and that’s eventually how they end up playing by the rules without realizing it. I believe had Arisu not found/spotted Karube in the last ten seconds they all would’ve lived.

After months of being confused by those rules, I learned today that the sheep is to hide from the wolf because the sheep must sacrifice themselves for the lone wolf to live.

This card of hearts is meant to play with ppls emotions. It really played with mine ngl

There are many reference to Alice's book in fact. There will be more and more. For now, when Alice go through the hole, she has to pass different doors (firt game", then she had to play a giant game of chess (second game where the guys with the horse mask represent the knights). In this game i actually had one theory to beat it. Its by using the tools on the table to remove the headsets. Since it seems impossible to do alone. But it just look like a game where there could have been only one winner unfortunately. And what Arisu said, tempering with the helmet might randomly set it off. This game was brutal, especially if you have to do it with your homies...

that's a hearts game for y'all... here's the thing - squid game gave the instructions true to the form of children's games. alice in borderland isn't like that. the games are meant to be tricky. sigh i remember seeing this ep for the first time and how it wrecked me for weeks. lol

Now we now who the main character is. I thought the same as you about the game and didn't expect that end. But they played well according to the rules, it's just the card, it's the hardest one for a reason. And I'd do the same for my friends. I love them so if one of them is the wolf, who I am to decide if she should die? It was just luck that she was the wolf, but I can't take her life. It was just bad luck for me

Read somewhere that all they needed to do was to all stare at a mirror or the pond water at the same time. Then all will become the wolf and survive.

I think the place was like a clue for me ,for them to win the game , the place has a lot of water and a lot of some kind of mirrors to me if they all see their reflection at the same time all them could have been turned wolf. in the end no one has to betrayed anybody if they all worked together . After I saw the episode , i was glad to see that some people had the same idea. Because to me it didn't make sense for them to start to betrayed each other when they have so much history together. That was so messy and sad, i can't imagine losing my friends like that. Thank you for your reactions!!!

The name of the show is a play on words based on the name of the Lewis Carroll book “Alice in Wonderland” where the main villain is the Queen of Hearts. There isn’t a character called Alice directly but Arisu is some type of variation of Alice in Japanese.

Now keep saying it out loud while thinking about the show's English title and also thinking about how many Japanese people pronounce English words. . . . . . . . . . . . . If you figured it out, there will be many other character names with Alice in Wonderland references. Keep sounding out the names out loud while thinking this.

Hear me out on this one. Ive got a couple theories. Sheep collars explode by the end of the game, right? Wolf lives, right? Theres a table full of equipment of all kinds. Not just weapons like knives axes. There were screww drivers, pliers, and wire cutters. Bare with me. If the wolf collar is the only one that does not explode and this is a game that activates fight or flight against your allies--why not try coming together to help cut wires. Arisu was unable to cut his own out of fear because of his PTSD from the tag game. Lets say you have the sheep cut the wolf wire, pass on the wolf to another sheep--and keep going until all the collar wires are cut. By the end of the game, the collars are deactivated. Theres a flaw in the game as shibuki stated (she has worked with ai intelligence hence her job). Nobody dies. OR. MY alternative theory that ties into yours: Why not play the game right? The game is hide and seek. The original rules of play ground hide and seek is if you find ONE hider, they become the seeker and the game starts over for everyone. The sheep are meant to hide so the wolf cant find them and end the game, ultimately, killing the sheep. What if Arisu never found Karube? Would they have still died? Or would it have the same result? It depends on if the game is going by the original playground rules. Or maybe the game was for the sheep to choose who of their friends they want to live and hide from them so they can. Just theories tho. Author did confirm that there was a solution to the 7 of hearts game--just never identified what it was.

I don't think the "enemy players" are necessarily the same "player" as they are not playing to live. I think they might be convicts. In the 2nd episode even if the horse people stopped the guys from disarming the bomb do they really win? I mean they are in the building as well so they die with the explosion along with the real players

I don't think anyone said this yet but the writer of the show said that there is a way that everyone can survive in all the games unless a death isn't required to start the game or death is involved (like they HAVE to kill someone) but for this game the writer didn't say what the solution was for them all to survive. I heard some say they could have done something with reflection and others say that if Arisu didn't look at anyone in the end they would've survived but he saw Karube in the end. Idk about those theories tho

This game is legit fked up because from what I understand, everybody is supposed to be able to survive a hearts game. But this one literally has no real answer. Arisu was going to cut the wire, but the chance that he survives that is basically zero.

You guys have the hearts game all wrong. The wolf is meant to go around and kill the people. This is because the tools are not there for you to kill each other but instead to torture the wolf. If you kill the wolf all the sheep will lose as he can no longer transfer his status to someone else as you need eye contact and one can argue that when your dead that won't really be possible as the person won't consciously make eye contact with a target. There is no way he can go about keeping his eyes closed forever in the hopes of survival so he has to hunt. The sheep do have to hide as the wolf would be coming to kill the sheep so they don't torture his status out of him. This is also relevant as if the wolf sustains too much damage there is no point in him surviving because the likelihood of him surviving the rest of the games will be reduced significantly. So in order to go out of this game unscathed and as the wolf, you need to hunt and kill the others. The only way the sheep can win is to either make a way for the wolf to look them in the eyes consciously or come together to torture the wolf so he has to open his eyes and give it to someone.

The wolf 🐺 has to be the only survivor and the Three sheep 🐑🐏🐑 are supposed to die that's how the game is.

The Heart game is a game of phycology it will mess the minds and trust of participants most of the heart game their will be death so most players avoid that but they didn't know what difficulty they will play every game until they enter the arena. Also Saori in this series made her kinda villain but in the manga. She been betrayed by the other participants on her first game. So she doesn't trust arisu, so she use chota as a anchor to there group so they don't betray and abandon her. She sacrifice herself in this game because she can't handle the burden to carry the lives of arisu when she survive.

If karube didn't show in the end the four of them might survive.

Shibuki had nothing to do with the choice of game. She's simply not a powerful person.
