‘The Queen that never was’ is an actual complement acknowledging that she should be queen and a dig at the King. It’s basically saying he’s not the rightful heir

I love how everyone's getting manipulated by how "calm" Otto Hightower is compared to Daemon and sees him as a Ned Stark type of character.......but he's actually a nicely wrapped version of Littlefinger. Less sleazy but the hints are there.

In the books a common saying is that the iron throne cuts kings who aren’t meant to rule

I love how Daemon is showing complexities of his character already.

Juxtaposing the tournament with the birth was a brilliant choice considering Aemma says “the childbed is women’s battlefield” earlier in the episode while Rhaenys remarks that “none of these knights have known real war”. The opening and ending scenes mirrored each other as well: a woman was robbed of the Throne 10 years ago and another woman is named heir now. This premiere wasn’t just a great re-introduction to this world and set-up for what’s to come, it’s also an excellent episode on its own

Viserys has no dragon to command. He was the last rider of Balerion, (the dragon skull we see at the end.) He never chose another, insisting that his cousin Rhaenys, and his brother command his forces. Another point of weakness that others could see.

Its weird how Otto is the one telling what Daemon said, but we never see Daemon deliver the line. I think he did say the phase but not with the intend to be disrepectful, but because is Otto telling the story and he as beef with Daemon he possible put another meaning to the phase.

No. Clearly Daemon loves his niece and brother dearly. He may be ruthless but that much is true. I think people are misunderstanding him.

A lot of people misunderstanding Daemon seeing him as the Joffrey of this series but to me he is more Jaime or Peter than a pure evil like Joffrey or Ramsey PS Roshi simping for Otto he is doing everything Daemon has accused him of in this episode alone

Syrax (the yellow dragon) is bonded to Rhaenyra & will only take direct commands from her. The king has no power over any of the dragons.

Otto literally pimped his daughter out to the king, and Daemon sees he's a snake wanting power for himself. That's why Otto doesn't want Daemon to be king, because he knows he'd be fired as Hand. Also, those WERE criminals that Daemon rounded up and punished, even his biggest hater Otto called them criminals. The problem wasn't that he was slaughtering innocents, it's that he made a public show of it to intimidate other would-be criminals to secure peace for the tourney. Does anyone else remember when Ned Stark chopped off a guy's head for running away from the Watch? These were brutal times, and the punishment fit the crime.

just to let you know the reason the king didnt burn the pyre himself is because he doesnt have a dragon he rode one dragon balarion a few times when he was young but after the death of the dragon he never bonded with another dragon

The book it's based on is an "In universe" historic record of what happen written by Unreliable Narrator with sources that are also unreliable. So the show runners have a lot of room to fill things in.

Everyone in comments telling them what to think or who to like based on foreknowledge of the story, the whole point of channels like this is to see people react in real time.

Plot twist, Daemon is actually a chill dude

When they were telling people what happened, Rhaenyra knew that if a baby was born they would have heard bells to celebrate the birth of a royal baby. She knew then that something was wrong. As people mentioned, The Queen that Never Was wasn't shade to Rhaenys, it was more shady to Viserys. People respected Rhaenys and said that term out of affection because her claim was stronger. Also her husband, Corlys is a well respected man and extremely rich. The Velaryons are the richest right now, the Hightowers are the most political and close to the High Septon which is basically their pope. Daemon is a psychopath but it's pretty clear he is loyal to his family and cares a lot about Rhaenyra and his brother.

Also the Iron Throne looks different here probably to be more in line with its book description. In the book its super intense to the point its easy to cut yourself on the blades of the throne, which is taken as a sign of a bad ruler rejected by his seat of office

viserys getting countless cuts is a cool little easter egg because in the books the throne only cuts those who're unworthy to rule on it.

First episode is interesting and first impressions of Otto is that he’s calm but then see his underhanded ruthlessness and daemon is out the gate shown as ruthless but deep down cares about his brother grasping to be at his side and lives his niece.

Daemon loves his family for real and would not kill Viserys for the crown. Otto on other hand is the OG littlefinger.

I loved that they didn't pull many punches with the birthing scene, it was as if someone in the writer's room said, "ok, if we can show people's arms getting chopped off and jaws getting cleaved off, we can show a bloody childbirth scene." It's also very artistically cut between with the brutality of the tourney, drawing an even clearer parallel between the birthing bed and the battlefield. *chef's kiss*

Actually being cut by the throne is an omen. It’s said that those who aren’t worthy of it will be cut by it . It’s a sign the power rejects them as a monarch. Meagor the guy Corlys wife was talking about was the second son of the first king Aegon and known as Maegor the cruel. He killed his nephew, caused civil war,tortured and burned cities on his dragon. The faith soldiers we saw the high sparrow have in thrones originally were made to fight Maegor and his cruelty as well as against the Targareans incest and flouting the religion of the 7. Maegor was a cruel king and was found dead cut to pieces on the thrown said to have been killed by it. Also in the orignal show you’ll find Joffrey cuts himself on the throne multiple times . Daenerys mad father was called king scab because he kept being cut by the throne. So the king in this show cutting himself shows he might be weak or his rule could be troubled and bad times ahead.

Also the reason why the throne is cutting him is throughout Targaryen history is room with that the throne has a presence. So if the throne is cutting him it's rejecting him as king it's symbolically literally trying to get him up out of the chair cuz he's not fit to be king.

This is where you got it wrong about Daemon. Yes he’s Brutal, Vicious, Ambitious, and Scheming. But his loyalty only lies with House Targaryen and every member of it. He didn’t desire the crown, he wanted glory and safety for House Targaryen and his Beloved Brother Viserys.

10:22 Jousting is a battle tactic so yes, there are different tactics employed in Jousts that are no different than there are many different punches thrown in a boxing match. 11:49 Technically striking a horse in a Joust is considered very inappropriate and dishonorable but since Daemon is a Prince, he can do whatever the hell he wants. 12:58 That helmet is called a Hound skull or a "Pig-Faced" Bascinet. A specialized type of Helmet that provides full protection to a Knight's face in a charge but severely limits his vision in anything beyond that. Compared to that, Daemon's open faced helmet is more susceptible of being impaled by a lance or get cut and blinded by wooden shrapnel from the clash.

That they managed to form an alliance is an astonishment in and of itself. 4:36. Speaking of Corlys, the guy is the most traveled man in Westeros EVER. He's sailed all the way around Westeros to Lannisport in the Westerlands and Lordsport in the Iron Islands, as far north as Hardhome, as far south as the Summer Islands, and as far east as Qarth, Yi Tix and Asshai.. He even led a fleet of ships to Qarth and loaded them with expensive spices, silks, gems, & elephants. A few ships sank and all the elephants died, but the cash that House Velaryon pulled in from this one voyage put them above even the Hightowers *AND* the Lannister. Also he said he might've seen a ship that sailed west from Oldtown in an attempt to circumnavigate the entire world. Her captain was Elyssa Farman, she was rumored to have stolen three dragon eggs from Dragonstone during her time with Rhaena Targaryen, Jaehaerys's older sister, who I think had been married to Maegor for a short while. She apparently sold them to the Sealord of Braavos for a ship she wanted commissioned, the Sunchaser. She got two of Lord Hightower's sons to join her, with ships of their own. They made it a couple of months out into the Sunset Sea, one of the brothers' ships went down with all hands in a hurricane and the other turned back, landed on the coast of Sothoyros, and managed to limp to the Summer Islands to pick up replacements for about 90% of the crew, and limped once more back to Oldtown. 7:12. And THIS is what the Gold Cloaks looked like in the books. Before Daemon, as he said, they were stray mongrels, little more than a glorified civilian militia. Daemon instead gave them black plate and leather armour, a sword, dagger, spear, and shield, and clubs apparently, all standard kit. He also gave them the cloth-of-gold cloaks(in this case half-cloaks) that would give them their new nickname. 7:33. Oh no, this is Premiere Night for the Gold Cloaks, pretty sure there will be around 3,000 of them later on during the Dance. 8:10 Cause Daemon pulled them from the gutter, the Watch knows who these people are, and what they've done. Also punishment is far more draconian in medieval settings. 8:59 Yeah, Daemon hates his married life in the Vale, and doesn't like being around his wife. Also, he's married into the Royces, Viserys married Aemma, who was originally an Arryn, and also half Targaryen due to her mother being one of Jaehaerys's daughters. This means that the Targaryen have got the two most powerful Vale houses, both ancient and loyal houses as well, on their side in case of a war 10:21 Yeah don't get hit. 10:38 That's Lord Boremund Baratheon of Storm's End. His father, Lord Rogar, married Jaehaerys's mother Alyssa Velaryon, this was when Jaehaerys was still about 14, and they had Boremund. They also had a daughter later on, Jocelyn, though she was born via C-section. She survived, Alyssa didn't, and would go on to marry Prince Aemon, they had a year's difference. She was also 5'11 while Aemon was 6'2. Rhaenys was their daughter and would've been heir before Viserys on principle of being born to the older son. Because of this, Boremund is seeking his niece's favour in kicking the asses of some of the competition. 11:07. He's a Targaryen, dragon motifs are their thing. 12:31. They haven't had any wars for twenty or thirty years, the last big fight was the Fourth Dornish War, which was wrapped up in a day. The whole thing was a massive naval invasion attempted by Prince Mors Martell, brought in mercenary ships from as far as the Basilisk Isles. Unfortunately such machinations weren't lost to Targaryen spies in his court, as well as some sharp-eyed merchants who likely got some money as rewards for their information, and the fleet was intercepted whilst they were maybe a kilometer or two out from the shores of Cape Wrath. The fleet got absolutely trounced by Jaehaerys, Aemon, and Baelon, with the dragons Vermithor, Caraxes and Vhagar respectively, and Rogar probably had men waiting on the shore to kill anyone with enough stamina to swim to shore, if there were any. 15:54. It's a Targaryen tradition to cremate the body. From fire were the children of Valyria born, by fire shall they be laid to rest. 19:40 And there's Blackfyre, the blade of Aegon the Conqueror, and the true family weapon, moreso than Darksister will ever be. Also Viserys is holding the sword in a downwards grip, keep an eye on that. 20:08 i'm with Daemon in this one. Having read Fire and Blood twice, Otto is the kind of man who seeks to further his family's position, regardless of how many hands he has to step on. 20:28. And the King's Guard is book accurate too, white armour instead of gold. 20:30. Well, nice to see you guys noticed that Viserys switched to overhand.

The soundtrack in this episode is an absolute masterpiece! So glad to hear from the goat Ramin Djawadi again. 1.) Notice how we get introduced to Rhaenyra and Syrax with a mix of the GOT opening and “Reign” from S6E9 aka Battle of the Bastards. 2.) And in the ending scene where Viserys talks to Rhaenyra and her official coronation as heir, the soundtrack used was heavily reminiscent of the track “Dance of Dragons” from S5E9 aka The Dance of Dragons foreshadowing the beginning of the Targaryen civil war. THEY DID NOT COME TO PLAY AND THEY MEAN BUSINESS THIS TIME FOR THE GOT UNIVERSE AND I AM HERE FOR IT!

The best and most underrated aspect of our society is Modern Medicine, back then they didn't have proper (or any) knowledge about Microbiology and Antibiotics, it was SUPER EASYYYY to get an Infection from ANY LITTLE CUT

The King Viserys in episode 1 was the last rider of the famed Balerion The Black, the same dragon that Aegon the Conqueror rode & the last dragon born in Valyria. Balerion died of old age after living over 200 years and Viserys never attempted to bond with another dragon.

Based on this episode so far, Otto is like Cersei/Tywin/Littlefinger, Viserys is like Robert Baratheon, Rhaenyra is like Sansa Stark, and Daemon is like a combination of Ned and Jamie but more bloodthirsty. The comparisons between Daemon and Joffrey are so off the mark I'm not even going to bother, lol.
