I’m Hellenistic it was weird at first because I’m Australian but there were to other Hellenistics at my school. I guess I always just found it easier to believe in the Greek gods and I did in like God and Jesus. So ah I guess that’s why I’m Hellenistic
@@thepighouse7663 i'm fascinated with the aesthetics of the Hellenic religious pantheon, but I'm still confused about what they actually believe. Do they literally believe Zeus sits atop Mt. Olympus and rules the other gods and creates thunder and lightning? Or does the belief system have more to do with the beauty of Greek aesthetics and a sort of ethnic solidarity, similar to the way Shinto is seen as the native belief system of Japan (so even when the Japanese say they're atheist yet visit Shinto shrines, that's taken to mean that their beliefs are more about respect of cultural and ethnic history)?
J jz currently about 40% of japanese people are complete atheists. but that doesn’t mean they’re going to destroy their culture. of course the temples would still be there. they can appreciate the beauty of the aesthetics without actually believing in the literal truth of that religion.
@@IRGhost0 I think the comparison to Shinto religion in Japan is quite fitting! I think that might be the great difference between the ethnic religions and christendom. In Christian religion the belief that Jesus Christ died for our sins and will free us is quite essential. In most pagan religions of Europe a real "credo" is missing: you might belief that Zeus sits atop Mt. Olympus as a heavenly king, but you might also regard him as personification of heavenly light and all its benevolent qualities, or as a more transcendental god, or as identical with the planet that bears his name (Jupiter). So one was pretty free to belief who or what the deities are. But essential was that the old rites and customs were respected. They are believed to come from very ancient times and were believed to guarantee the welfare and safety of the people.
What excites me about movements like these is that when they grow bigger, these groups could one day be funding research into ancient Greek culture and restoring ancient sites. We could one day learn so much more about ancient Greece through these people and their devotion.
I don't think so, only the science of archaeology must maintain the archaeological sites in Greece according to scientific procedures , it would be a disaster the rebuilt these temples. On the other matter I don't believe that returning to paganism is something good, it's medieval and downgrade. The upgrade is from Christian to became atheist , to believe from one God to hundreds is stupid, to sacrifice bulls is barbaric ( for the present). I have a huge respect to the ancient Greek civilization but time has passed an I don't want to stick in some religious practices of the past. Anyway I am Greek but I don't believe to any God(s) I am an agnostic.
There should be the best of the past, including ancient past, with the best of the present. So, those followers can assist with that. When lighting the Olympic flame, it can be done by them, instead of by actors. That would make it more realistic.
YoBadMama yes you are right and then the world will realize that we don’t need politicians and we would remove capitalism but then that would collapse the Zionist Jewish banking system that destroys our world!!
I have felt a connection to the Greek gods since discovering them, I feel like Christianity has become an oppressive religion, and is corrupted, but I don't want to disappoint my family, since there strong Christians.
I’m Chinese and I’m attracted by Hellenism and Hellenic religion. I even tried to learn Ancient Greek but it’s sooooo hard for me. It’s amazing that people are reviving the worship of Hellenic gods,I hope i can know more about this religion , I love these gods!
There is a connection to Ancient China. The Greco-Roman religion begins with ancestor veneration which China shares. There is a great YT videos and books called “the ancient city” or the “ancient family” and you will not be disappointed. 🙏🏻

If you take christianity serious, you shouldn't endorse that. According to christianity, they will literally go to hell for all eternity. Christianity and Islam make that very clear. The abrahamatic perspective and doctrines in regard to paganism are clear. That's what it was all about. Destroying the idols, the "wrong" gods, satan is leading people towards.
earse selfre yes you can, the Hellenic religion is not a religion based on blood but it is a religion based on ethos, ethos the word's definition is the characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its attitudes and aspirations. The word ethnic which is a Greek rooted word which is derived and created fusing the word ethos which means custom, character, things you get use to, tradition, philosophy, ethics and religion of a certain culture.... One can adopt Hellenic ethos and call him or herself a ethnic Hellenas or Hellene. Many foreigners to Greece who where scholars of history and philology identified as Hellenes and no one cared. In fact Greek professors and teachers show such examples with joy and pride. Welcome to the tribe. Ancient Greece was a cosmopolitan oriented place where everyone could learn about others and everyone could learn from them... In cults of mystery like the eleusinians actually initiated foreigners. In the ancient pagan cultures around the world blood didn't make you different from another ethos did... Many ethnic Hellenes where ethnic judeochristians and when they came to the realization of paganism we transformed our ethos therefore becoming Ethnic Hellenes.
Yes you can and should. If Athena is calling you, you MUST answer. Athena is in the core of humanity. If you feel connected to Athena, you are a true human.
Absolutely. You can believe in anything you want. Gods are Gods and worship is not limited to any ethnicity. Some will say that you cannot worship the Gods unless you have Greek ancestry which is far from the truth. From a religious standpoint, the only way you could think that you must have a certain ancestry to worship is essentially saying that you don't believe that they are Gods or that they are who created all of that which is around us (including Titans, Primordials, etc. as Gods). It is a completely political argument trying to claim superiority and for example, is like saying that you can't be Muslim unless you are Middle-Eastern. From a historic standpoint, there are many instances where people of several ethnicities (African, Indian, Persian, etc.) worshipped the Greek Gods due to immigration, trade, war, etc. So yes, you and everyone else are completely free to follow the Gods and we welcome you with open arms.
earse selfre - Yes, if the gods call you, than what right does man have to stop you. Worship with sincerity and reverence in your heart, and the gods will accept you
Hellenism has the potential to fill the gap left by the vast hordes that are leaving monotheism, Christianity is a foreign religion to Europe after all, Christianity is a Jewish sect from the middle east but of course even Christianity has a massive amount of Hellenism at it's core, the 12 apostles being just one example.
None, Christianity is just reclaim the poor. As state got bit weaker because the wars poor start to see in a "new religion" kind of revolution and equality for all. At one moment, people on the top just reclaim to monotheisms and just stay on the top. So, nothing change really, poor did stay poor and rich stay rich. Similar like "socialism", meanwhile now in Venezuela, all people are equal but Maduro keep the money and power...
Many Europeans were descendants of the people who were forced to be Christians, especially in the south? Just like many of the Javanese (an ethnic group in Indonesia) were descendants of the people who were forced to identify as Muslims.
@AnarchoRepublican Try and look into your ancestry and discover the old gods. The gods of freedom and nature. The gods that don't need slave complexes to garner worship and praise.
Christianity has been in Europe for nearly two millennia and has become the cultural bedrock of European identity, but you pagays will always be in denial.
Of course they never died, for they are immortal beings of high power. The only way they could of died or faded is if the creator, chaos or the primordial council came down to earth to take them out.
Personally for me, as an other pure Greek, it really confuses me. I certainly love my Ancient past, but I can't deny our current homogeneous status quo out of the blue. I'm certainly agnostic, though. As Socrates said, "One I know, that I know nothing". My ancestors certainly fill my soul more than any current or older myth ( infused by facts? ). Our battles for freedom and civilization to sciences and everything we created. Even our myths teach us countless lessons EACH. They taught us how to live and what to start looking for ( Ευδαιμονία ). We keep making/repeating the same mistakes, though.

What? The Byzantine Empire which later became a de facto Greek state would've never come into being, with all its advancements in culture, beautiful art, architecture and theology without the Church proselytizing in those lands and removing the worship of idols. Paganism is stagnation.
Greek popes, and Orthodox religion in general, are the worst. They have infiltrated the public view and dictate how people should act, dress, talk and what kids should learn at school. I was indoctrinated as a kid in Greece to be a Christian because of that. Stopped believing a decade and a half ago.
I’m Jewish and I support my Neo-Pagan brothers and sisters. This revival is wonderful. I only believe in one deity, but believe there are many ways of expressing spirituality. Kind of like the Brahamic philosophy, where there is one ultimate force, divided into three, divided further into demigods and deities. Everyone has a different way of connecting with the divine and should be respected. I believe we will see a huge revival not just in Europe, but in Central Asia and the Middle East also. People from the Balkans, Greece and the Caucasus are returning to their old animist and shamanic traditions. I actually think animism is compatible with my religion. Everything has a soul -divine spark - that is part of one totality that is beyond human comprehension.
As an Orthodox Jew I agree. I welcome polytheism because polytheism often promotes religious pluralism and tolerance. In places like India and China, our people were never persecuted.
In 中國 (TheCentralNation) 's case, the True Explanation for such Synchronicity is the Profound Reverence that יַהֲדוּת had for 道儒. The Centermost Faith is more Mono than Monotheism yet more Poly than Polytheism. Scripture clarifies that Almighty 上帝 Above Godhood yet Rules All Gods/Godhood. This includes 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, who was correctly understood to be merely a 神 among the Infinite 神s. This is why we never blaspheme The One Almighty with defective pluralisms masquerading as singulars (like Jews attempt with Elohim - which is correct in Yah's case since Yah is merely a God). @@EzraB123

@RobPetilo Zionism is Jewish nationalism. It's for Jews what Kurdish nationalism is for them. But you can't fully separate Zionism from Judaism. The ancestral ties to the land and the claim to the land is central to Jewish history, theology, literature, identity, etc. For as long as Jews exist they will have a claim to Israel.

Brian Dorchak Yeah but ya know, crusades and the whole DEUS VULT thing forced people to convert. So yeah I really find interesting that religions, that people thought dead, are back now :)
@Marcelo Henrique Soares da Silva could you be any more narrow-minded than that? The reason why other indo-european paganisms were still somewhat primitive is because they lived in places where it was extremely hard to develop, either cold and dry as fuck or no resources, the pagans near the mediterranean had more luck
What I favor about Hellenic Reconstructionists in general is how well they have done at preserving the authenticity of the philosophies behind their beliefs (many of which I share), while allowing that religion room to evolve. It's a hard balance to strike in spirituality (so many succumbing to the two traps of purity and relativism), but I feel that given the fact that Hellenistic beliefs have usually included a measure of philosophical self-criticism as a matter of course, modern Hellenism is uniquely well-suited to the task.
I remember some of the practitioners from a Vice documentary that was made about this a few years before this video was posted, especially the lady @ 2:12 (on the right) who is dedicated to Poseidon. I’m glad Hellenismos is finally getting recognition. I’m praying that understanding will soon follow.
The Vice video I’m referencing is this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SBpNu4_TP9w.html. The part where she says “finally the hymn of Poseidon will be heard again” still stirs my heart.

The reasons i a became Hellenic is because: 1. It's fucking awesome theology 2. way better than Christianity and Islam 3. worship and interpret the ancient text how you want 4. no stupid rules 5. completely peaceful in nature 6. and last but not least you can drink the blood from your enemies skulls
Where did you get the last one from? Greeks would have considers that cannibalism and thus it would have counted as Miasma (closest thing to sin in ancient Greek religion) and never in any Greek texts has anyone ever Franken the blood of there enemies from their skulls
The Greek Orthodox church since then and even prior to this documentary or a little short video since has largely dropped. And the Pagan population has significantly grown since then several thousands at least.
Ancient deities of every culture except the abrahamic cult were anthropomorphic. They shared many of the same flaws that we have and many of the attributes that we have, but they were magnified because they were gods. They had uncontrollable anger and yet they also were very wise and I think that makes them very relatable. Unlike abrahamic God who is all knowing, all loving, all powerful and all perfect, these were anthropomorphic deities which meant they were flawed. They were flawed and they were more like us than unlike us and I think that's why we feel such a strong connection to them to them even today. Perhaps this is the reason behind booming paganism in modern Europe and declining christianity.
This year, European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) admitted that Lithuanian Romuva should have the right to be recognized as one of officially known religions. I wonder whether the followers of the Hellenic Religion ever went to ECHR or ECJ about their rights? If not, I would advise you to do this. We polytheists must STRUGGLE for our rights and I believe our GODS and GODDESSES will help us winning, but still - the same as ancient warriors - it is US who must struggle and win. If we look on history and just assumes that there will be like this again when we are around the first stages so there won't be much commotion till the late 2070 or earlier. @@alecnorton5490 We do practice our faith in in Temples for different deities[ Gods and Goddesses] but we make offerings rituals outside because of the smoke while we burn it as an offering for the Gods and Goddesses, as how we Hellenists see other Polytheists religions its pretty chill because we believe in all Gods and Goddesses and their rules however only decides to worship the Greek Pantheon. As the question about we going into space then just hypothetically say that Hellenists will go into space but judging by our numbers we won't be big enough to start an independent nations by just Hellenists unless we make an Pagan nation with the other Polytheists for our numbers are still small. We greeks are the descendents ! The truth is that we Greeks have been spreading our DNA for almost 5000 years, especially within our tribes. It is no wonder that many people are attracted to it, because genetics is not only something that is passed on, it also contains information that determines later feelings, and these feelings are suppressed by facts that are forced upon you from birth. Most Greeks therefore feel very closely connected to our ancestors and would like to continue to be a part of the whole, but many are afraid to talk about it because otherwise they do not fit into the overall picture of the population. If you look into the subject a little more, you will find that the Orthodox religion was derived from the gods, which is why many customs, mysteries, ceremonies and even the old names of the gods are found in saints. They adopted Christianity and mixed it with the ethnic "religion", they were forced by the emperor constantie to adopt Christianity, otherwise he ordered to kill everyone. Many Greeks hid until today and continued to follow their culture until they had the courage to come to the fore to fight for their rights, in principle we are all Greeks one and the same and follow exactly the same culture, only the religion differs in some points. From day to day more and more Greeks gather to follow the original culture, understandable, because it carries a very different energy, if you look at the temples, it is no wonder that the faith was and is so intense, we Greeks already knew why we followed this path, why we could accomplish great! I also belong to this group and I recommend every Greek not to be ashamed to follow that which actually makes us, we are who we are and people have lost faith in us because we have turned away from this faith at that time. As we know, the gods of Olympus are much older than Christianity, which was used as an idea for other religions, even the Romans adopted our gods until their emperor forbade it. So you see, real Christians must have had the choice to become Christians, God or Jesus did not force anyone to accept them and ordered death in case of rejection! This should make everyone think ! Hellenism will exist again because this is a part of us and always has been !
Just one small glimpse of a way/question/topic to think about: Do you think you have free choice to choose what you want to choose? Than ask yourself this question: Why do you want to choose that? Can you choose the wish to choose what you wish? Is there really any free choice? In the end there is, but also there is not. You can't choose what will happen to you, you can't choose what will come your way, you can't choose what your feelings will be. But yes you can have influence on all of that, but always in anyway. You have a choice and you have not. That is the paradox. What is the truth?
Seeing all that hate towards each other really saddens me. Can't we exist all peacefully? Why so much hate toward Pagans from Christians and towards Christians from Pagans in the comments? Love is the way - Greetings from a Greek LDS
Its not that we want conflict however you see we Pagans do not believe in one but many while the monotheistic only believe in one not many, we Pagans accept that they don't believe in our faiths however it is they who refuse to accept ours because of this different worshipping and thinking. Also many christians, muslims and jews hate us because they choose the word of their only god to believe that we are satanists or demons etc. And for that we do get a lot discrimination on our end for being who we are or believe in while we just wanna live an ordinary life with our faiths

He was a demigod and the challenge he had to prove himself was to go round India and turn them into Hellenists. Which then caused so much chaos in his home town. Please look up what happened. It's amazing. We should be proud of our beliefs. No matter what.
This is the creed that should dominate Europe and the west again. Paganism should be revived, as well as the values of ancient Greece, and the judeo Christian creed must be forever banished, for it sunk Europe into the dark ages. We must return to those glorious moments in time when Plato lectured in front of his pupils, when Piteas sailed the north seas, when Aristarchus proposed the heliocentric model, when Praxiteles sculpted his statues, and when the phalanxes of Alexander conquered the then known world. Glory to Hellas!!!!!!
Ancient stories, religions and cultures were connected in one way or another. Some of these connections were forgotten with the passing of time. Several past authors said or wrote that Zeus or Jupiter was the same as one of the early most important patriarchs in the Bible, but his story was changed to be compatible with monotheism. In this sense it can be stated that Zeus/Jupiter has been continuously revered and remembered by the followers of Abrahamic religions as one of the first most significant patriarchs and prophets mentioned in the Bible.

Polytheism has somehow fascinated me way more than my uncomfortable surroundings with monotheistic people that I am use to in my life. There was this one person in my program trying to correct me that I might go to hell, if I refuse to accept Jesus as this so-claimed “One True God”, but I didn’t give a darn of what she thought, besides her cross was just Chinese character for ten, which I believe this Jesus guy was influenced by to set as a reminder for the Jews not to forget their sacred commandments that were given from Mt. Sinai, but one of those crazy Romans thought of it as symbol of hope and salvation, which I think was very warped idea they had in mind to make it feel like it’s there one true religion which is just ridiculous. I am just kind of glad that there is still polytheism in Greece and I hope it will flourish to majority soon. 😊
😊 I hope you meant the word buried in a figurative metaphorical sense because if you said otherwise I'll be blasphemous and disgustingly man-made and of course again blasphemy.
We are and even in USA and Mexico and Canada and Australia and UK. Roman Temples to Saturnus and Apollo and Venus and The Others all over where it's legal like turkey and Spain.
