14 years ago, I was 18, and my head was largely filled with the propaganda talking-points of traditional mass-media, that the LNP were the better economic managers, and all that shit. I didn't like this song when I heard it on the radio. Since then I've learned and grown a lot, and my understanding of politics is far better than what it was. It's not even a matter of scale. I had negative-understanding of politics back then, as nearly half of the country still do. Maybe even more than half (some people vote well, but still have a shit understanding of things). Now I understand how much and how badly the media has been playing us all, for longer than any of us have been alive. I understand acutely how much suffering the LNP (and other parties around the world that are similar to them) cause to so many innocent people, and it pains me to see how electorally successful they often are. Revisiting this song, now, it really hits hard. Although, I think the "King" in all this is not Howard, or Morrison. It's the collective of the oligarchs who control our media and politics. When oligarchs no longer control the media, and their influence they've had on people's politics starts to really be undone, that is when I think we can truly say the king is dead. But Morrison's government going down, even with an immense amount of propaganda helping them, that is no small feat. I'll definitely be re-visiting this song, in future.

In certain ways things havent changed, Were pulling out of Iraq in a few years, apparently were staying in afghanistan which is a joke. More changes still need to be made. The fact things havent changed and what the people of Australia were promised wasnt done is the reason people feel this country is getting worse.
