It's best to not take seashells from the beach, as they can be homes for hermit crabs and if you don't believe me, watch our video "Craziest Animal Rescue Story Ever". Instead, my mom bought them from a souvenir shop, mailed them to me, and they were a hit.
It's important to give your hermit crabs a "shell shop" with lots of shells to choose from, as they need larger shells as they grow and molt. Turbo snail shells seem to be a favorite and you can order the from sites such as Etsy.
