You need to get Joe a mailbox ASAP. He will use them more than any other hermit, I'm sure.

tango: I dont trust flying machines to fly 10 blocks also tango: Im going to send a minecart 1000 blocks away with a complex array of chunkloading portals set at the bottom of the world

It's honestly a great idea to give Scar the first mailbox, that way you can instantly Scar-proof the system before mass production

Some things to consider: 1. Make every chunkloading portal have a ladder or escape bubblevator in case a hermit gets trapped: you don't want them to break the system while trying to get out. 2. Include a small beacon with a hopper clock. You can use a beam that blinks into existence and keeps changing as a 'you have mail' notification so that hermits will not have to consciously check the chest the mail arrives at. Checking mail seems to have been a huge problem in regards to mailboxes in earlier seasons with some mailboxes going utterly unchecked for (almost) an entire season. 3. Signs. Stamp here. Box here. Press button. Etc. Basically Scar-proof it. 4. Make the button Grian-proof. You know Grian is going to press those buttons whenever he walks by, so you'll have to be able to deal with bad input. 5. Have a special Postmaster station for Pearl where packages without addressing or incorrect addressing arrive. She can then either keep possession, deliver it properly, or go back to the sender to chew them out in her glorious style. 6. Have you slabbed & redstone the area around the track sufficiently to keep zombie pigmen & hoglins from clipping the cart as it travels on the tracks? I know they can't spawn on the tracks, but minecarts can be a huge pain when it comes to entities...

Soooo, in theory, you could add this to the shopping district and add item filters for diamonds, and have stamps that say things like "Spruce Logs" and you've essentially built the infrastructure for amazon Prime!? I would love to see shipping done that way!

It would be so cool if each Hermit had their own custom artwork stamp made. Like Mumbo could have his Moustache, Beef could have a farmhouse thing, you could have some cogs, etc.

So normally when people say they are gonna be a mail service on a Minecraft server. It would be a bunch of dudes on horses or elytra to deliver mail…. But ooohhhh no…. Not when you give the job to Etho and Tango. This is truly incredible to see conceptualized and implemented in a single video. Would have taken most people weeks to get to this point. Like this is actually a useful value add delivery system.

I love the idea of the "stamps" being sold at the post office: they cound be signed books, so they can't be counterfeited, the way you did for Decked Out. That would fill the post office building with much for life than being an unnecessary (albeit pretty) structure, and give lots of interaction potential: people might even start stamp-collecting!

This system is a perfect chance to run a Amazon-esque kind of business.

make sure that the mail system is both Grian and Scar proof... Grian will likely PURPOSELY break it with a baked potato... for those who remember just shudder at the memory... for those who don't... go back a few seasons.

You should add a "return" stamp based on where the package came from, that way hermits can send a package back, know where it came from, and if someone misspelled the stamp their package would come back.

When Pearl accidentally fell into the loop during stream, the chat decided this looked like a Doc device. Really says something when it takes two great redstoners working together to make something that looks like Doc’s insanity!

You should have mailboxes also setup at places where people need to move bulk material like the sand mining area! They can ship back shulkers full of material to their own mailbox!

Imagine if Tango made the factory interact with the mail system: you send a shulker to the factory with an order form, some payment and a return address and the factory sends you the order through the mail!

That first test message that actually arrived felt like the inventors of Internet sending data for the first time successfully.

A few commets below talk about hermits misspelling stamps and things- just an idea on this is to have a set official stamps that you can pick up from the post office that is essentially reskined paper with the correct label! Hermits can pick up a pack as frequently as needed from the post office after postal workers collect them from the nether filters. Love this project so so so much!

Unironically, the nether portion of the mail system really does look very much like the conveyor system inside a UPS hub. It even functions basically the same way. Source: I worked inside one of the largest UPS hubs on the planet several years ago, so I got to know the system pretty well. So yeah, kudos to you and Etho for coming up with a system that we basically use irl! It makes a ton of sense!

Tango, your 'online store' should work like the stock market. In-demand items increase in cost, and less-popular stuff gets cheaper. Prices can auto-update a real time map on their mailbox.

TANGO: You should make a secondary "reloading/maintenance track" that's only accessible to mail maintenance staff. The idea is you fill a chest minecart to the max with flint & steal and it deliver them to the portals. Right now. The biggest bottleneck to your system that WILL become a problem is if the portals run out of F&S. The cool thing about a maintenance track is you will know how bad you were based on how many F&S are left in the chest-cart when it returns. If it somehow returns empty, it means you need to send a second load. You would NEVER have to manually check every individual portal anymore. Infact, you can even automate this in the overworld with a new auto-crafter. You fill one double chest with flint, and 1 double chest with iron. It would rest on a detector rail that stops the cart from moving till it's full. On detection of full cart, it sends it off and it returns. Doing it this way will make it VERY VERY VERY rare for you to EVER need to refill supplies since a single stack of iron/flint gets you 64 items each with 64 uses. Meaning 1 stack of each ALONE would get you 4,096 portal lights. But since each portal is used twice, it's more like 2,048 divided by however many portals you got. But that's still just ONE slot on an empty chest. Edit: It might need to be a hopper minecart, not just a minecart with chest. You know, since it has multiple drop-off points. You could also use a day-night detector in the overworld to limit the number of times it does a refill run to save up on materials (since every time it goes through the nether, it would be eating up durability of all the portal lighters). This would however probably mean you might need to manually load the chunks then tho.

I find it amazing and insane that we're just in the third episode of season 10 and something as big as a mailing system is already being made. Also, anyone else remember when Grian did an overworld non-redstone version of this to Mumbo's base on season 7? I was laughing so hard with the first time Mumbo found out.

This is wild. I love how they even included auto-crafters with chest minecarts to make sure this system could run for a long time without needing maintenance. Scar is a great person to test the system with because he's willing to try anything and isn't afraid to make mistakes on camera.

I love that Tango is an absolute redstone genius.... Who tried to use a bed in the Nether. He IS human! lol. The mail system is super cool!!! Very excited to see the whole server get hooked up and send little gifts back and forth. Really fits with the connectivity theme of the season as a whole so far. And Scar is literally the perfect person to test it lol

I think they're going to need to build a courthouse when Etho is inevitably arrested for mail fraud. Shade-E-E's is going to be running some kind of Nigerian prince scam for diamonds. lol

Instead of the bell, you should play a custom record of the old aol "you've got mail!" sound, or perhaps a Tango-cover of the Mr. Rogers mailman bit (bicycle bell dings...Specialfied deliveracation thingie!) Or perhaps teach Scar how to do it...

I feel like the possibilities for this are really exciting, imagine having something like Sahara from S6 but instead of a traditional shop it’s a warehouse and you can use the same principle to order items from your house and get them delivered from the shop!

im glad a lot of hermits are taking the video progress slowlier and doing long manual labor on streams instead of grinding hours after midnight. feels more genuine/human in a way, taking your time to care for yourself

okay bit of a weird name suggestion but consider: petal postal a) an abbreviation of pearl et al. as pearl opens the project in a jokey managerial role which i love b) pet for pearl etho and tango c) both pearl and etho are doing a lot with greenery this season d) it would rhyme AND alliterate

The hermits' shops can now have catalogs to enable mail order products too! Send shop-specific stamp with a package containing an order request + adequate diamonds and the shop ships off the goods! The higher tech shops can automate this, while those that aren't can just have order backlogs. This is awesome. Shops can pay a postal subscription fee to get access to the mailing routes and the "addresses" of the hermits and the post office sells all the stamps too! Throw in some custom / seasonal skins for stamps and make them collectable. Genius.

This reminded me of the mailbox Grian and Mumbo had in season 7 (?). The one where they made an obnoxious bell go off when they received mail and Grian was sad that Mumbo stopped sending him mail 😂

Scar should totally have the mailbox as a train car designed like the old British mobile post offices with their instant mailbag transfer systems. That’d look incredible!

You need to set up a rural post office for peeps outside the loop….they can just “go into town to the post office” and still get their mail. Interactions with others using the PO Boxes, too, could be video clip opportunities. Maybe some who haven’t decided where their final build will be could use post offices, too.

I would be very surprised (but only a little disappointed; due to how big and complicated it would be) if nobody builds a massive shop where someone can order items from their base, send the order via this system, and then the shop automatically sends the items to the hermit who ordered it once the order has loaded into the mine cart.

The fact that you can actually build a working mail system within minecraft is crazy! You all outdid yourselves tango, pearl, etho!

I would suggest making a book that's a dictionary of all the Hermits' names that the stamp uses, just in case there's any misunderstanding. All the copies of the book could be put on lecterns in front of the mailbox. Maybe an anvil with a chest full of paper at the mailboxes would be useful too.

ep3: tango and etho invent the internet :) love this system, I've been pondering on something similar for transporting items between my farms and my storage and this is a great inspiration!

I thought of an idea where players could link up mail boxes to their shops so if a player is buying a lot of things they could just send it straight home instead of carrying it. Or they could use it to send supplies from their base to their shop. Ever since watching this video I can’t stop thinking of the possibilities! So excited to see what will come of it

You could rename the dropper to "Insert stamp" so it says that at the top when you open it; might make the UI more obvious. That being said they only have to learn it once so idk that it's worth it. But they'll probably release the world for download eventually so might be good documentation anyways.

That mail system is great, only thing I would worry about is what happens if there are multiple people sending mail at the same time, I think there is great potential for the system to break if minecarts bump into each other in the nether on the loop.

The random arm flail bug that the Hermits get is great. Its like the game is telling them, "ok to much diggy diggy worky worky, your arm is now dead asleep." Looks like when you fall asleep with your arm under you and your fighting desperately to pull it from under you and get feeling back in it!!😂

That's so cool! You guys are geniuses. I think you should cover the nether system with some kind of block to indicate not to dig through it or to protect from Withers unleashed nearby. Also each mailbox should be customisable colour-wise for each hermit so they can incorporate it easily. Signs might also be useful for user interfaces to remind people where stuff goes

Not only is it unique, its also just such a practical bit of infrastructure that I can definitely see being used all season. especially for simple requested items. Someone needs a stack of sponges? Throw it in the chat and see if anyone can send it directly to your base. Incredible.
