Ah yes I also loved Luke Skywalker's journey Star Wars Episode III: The Goblet of Fire. Truly inspirational. My favourite part was when he teamed up with Gandalf and Percy Jackson to defeat Ultron.

I quickly gave up and got some basic info from the discussion here. The creator here obviously did not think he had anything important enough for others to hear him.

THE STORY ARCH THAT’S HARDWIRED IN HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS… It’s the script for every human life…to become a hero in his or her own right in meeting the challenges of existence, and therefore, probably in the eyes of others as well.
@James-nv1wf
@James-nv1wf 6 лет назад
"probably" but I don't think it has to be. Pleasing others from ones journey should not be a forethought.

This is going to be a minor nit-pick but for your shrek comparison, shrek is notably lonely but takes comfort in it so the reward shrek gets from rescuing the princess is her companionship. I would even say getting the deed to his swamp back was his next hurdle to overcome, as that re-introduces comfort to his life which puts up a roadblock between him and his companionship.

"written into our DNA/consciousness" because Jesus is the hero's journey. the creator, comes into the creation as a baby to live perfect life give his life to win his bride to freedom and conquer sin/death and crush the serpent. Man is on the hero's journey also with the fall, death, resurrection, redemption and glorification

That whole intro was annoying. You played Star wars intro music when saying you were finishing a movie. You said you finished Episode 3 but then started talking about Episodes 4, 5, and 6. You put Clone Wars 2003 Anakin as a padawan (so not from Episode 3) up there with the Death Star and Luke's X-Wing. None of that matches. Even the plot of Episodes 1, 2, and 3 don't match with what you were talking about. It through me off. I was confused at the beginning of the video because of this. If you are doing an informational video you shouldn't so blatantly mess up information like that. The actual video was helpful. You did a great job explaining everything. Just don't mess up your examples.

Technically, Lord Farquaad wasn't a king when Shrek delivered Fiona to him. That was the entire purpose of the journey in the first place, so that Farquaad could marry a princess and call his land a "kingdom".

Is it also a story limited mostly to being a male? Cos in all of the examples I find they're pretty male-centric.... But I wonder.. . Is there a female version, based on the female perspective and respective priorities (as they may differ biologically speaking, I honestly have no idea), or would the concept of the monomyth also pertain to females; to all homosapiens? Oooorrrrrrrrr Is it just a story focusing on a male audience, which in turn is a simple bias, an expression of males and their narcissism? hmmmmm I wish I knew more biology
@ThoughtMonkeyhq
@ThoughtMonkeyhq 6 лет назад
I just listened to a podcast about this. Joseph Cambell suggested that the Hero's Journey is a specifically male journey because males are broken. Women on the other hand are born with purpose. He said that women are born with the purpose to bring life into this world and therefore are not broken and don't need a Hero-esque journey to go on. I don't necessarily agree with this, just sharing what he said about it.
@LokiBeckonswow
@LokiBeckonswow 6 лет назад
Thought Monkey well said man. I wouldn't mind hearing more about a female perspective with it all. Perhaps someone like Simone De Beauvoir might have an opinion.
@iamthedanger9602
@iamthedanger9602 2 года назад
That's because the hero's journey implies change. Trial, suffering, and ultimately defeat or glory. The boy becomes a hero. The little lion becomes a king. He has a mentor because he needs to learn. He needs the he enemy because he needs to grow and defeat said enemy and that takes to be wiser and stronger than him, but he starts from 0 and ends up a legend. A female version of change is the world changing for her. The male needs to learn how to kill the evil. The female, or the female ally, needs evil to change and become moral for him/her to be safe.
@danielpaulson8838
@danielpaulson8838 2 года назад
Male is an analog for conscious mind and thinking. Carnal. It isn't about a man. Female is the soul, spirit, sup-conscious, etc. When you take the Hero's journey, it plays out in your psyche and all the story parts are you, (or contain many superfluous details to carry the story)

The Zero’s Journey A TUTORIAL ON SJW CHARACTERIZATION AND STORY TELLING We begin our tale in the ordinary world where our character, let’s call our character “Nada”, is already master of all they survey. Next, “Nada” is faced with a call to adventure, which really isn’t much of a call to adventure, because let’s face it, The character has no flaws and limitless powers. So let’s rename it “a whisper of momentary distraction”. “Nada” considers refusing the call because it’s not much of a challenge to their awesomeness and dealing with it is really kind of beneath them. But, “Nada” finally decides to respond to the “whisper of momentary distraction” because they really have nothing better to do. Next our character encounters their Mentor who does their best to guide our character through the momentary distraction that they must face. Sadly, there is absolutely nothing this old fool can teach our character, because our character already knows everything that they will ever need to know to deal with anything they will ever need to face. After “Nada” screams at the would-be Mentor for wasting his or her precious time, our character crosses the threshold into the special world filled with all new challenges and struggles where they must pretty much do what they did in the familiar world- be their own awesome self. There will be tests, though easily passed, allies that are not really needed and enemies barely worth mentioning. Our character will meet their love interest, which will only be relevant to the extent that they can show their unending devotion to the singular perfection that is our character - not that Nada needs this devotion from another - They don’t need anyone to teach them or help them or complete them in anyway. “Nada” approaches the final ordeal, well, more like the final inconvenience, really - never really facing death or anything approaching it - never needing rebirth of their ever shining brightness that never fades or flickers for a moment. The reward they reap is complete and utter validation of how great they always knew they were. The road back is an easy return paved with all the unearned superlatives that were simply bestowed upon them from the beginning and carried through to the end. Finally, our tale concludes with the somber realization that while “Nada” will indeed live happily ever after, Nada’s character arc is dead - FLATLINED -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
