That old english wood restorer is great stuff. I used it on the weathered front door of my house and two years later I can finally notice it starting to fade again. I'll probably just reapply, since it's done such a good job. Since the parts inside your camper won't have the moisture or UV exposure of my door I'd expect it'll last a long long time.
I was stationed in Grand Island, La. U.S. Coast Guard back in 1966-1967. Can't wait to see you guys there. Love your Louisiana video's. I lived in Morgan City for about 25 yrs.
Truly a jack of all trades. It's admirable what a hard working man you are. I watched your work on the parents' cabin, the tent and the trailer. It's amazing how you get to do all those things besides your employment. I wish you good health and all the best..!
You have that trailer looking nice!! One thing I could recommend for you to keep from tracking in sand and dirt on your floors is a boot brush to put on your step. I have one on my semi and makes a world of difference.. it just mounts on there with two large zip ties.. most truckstops you can find them, otherwise Amazon would have it! Trailer looks sharp and lots of fun! Enjoy!
I held on to a buffer from ages 17-25 down here in So. Florida working in the marinas. Fun times. I took me 8yrs to finish but it paid for my entire college tuition, books and rent.
Joe, about the Teflon tape.... Isn't it funny that the ones who know it all, don't know it all lol. love how you handle people like that. Top notch youtubing sir!
keeping the taters from rollin off the table is a good thing looks like u got a new foreman better put him on the payroll before he gets away take care joe lookin good
Hey Melissa , I know you read these, SO, make sure you have NO tools or cleaning supplies when you go camping, just food, LOTS of beer, and fishing gear, or you will never get to fish or have any time with Joe LOL
She looks just about road ready Joe. Hey btw have you checked the condition of the wheel bearings & tires yet? Electric brakes should be in order too. Happy travels!
Did you check berings on axel? It helps to get spec on bering spec. Bought an old uhaul trailer axel fell off it was as cheap to order a whole new axel as replace componet parts. U haul has custom axle special order...
I'm curious of the tubes you bought for plugging the gap to keep the little bugs out, can't those be pushed down and out of the way and just left there to go up and down with the top? That is where the TV was designed to go but I think I'm going to see if mine can go up front in the window. My Hi-Lo is a '94 and has the same floor plan but I think my area up front is bigger. My table also closes and is flush with the wall cause it recesses into the wall. You have done a great job of cleaning it up. Thanks for sharing.
Take down the curtains and wash them?.....Get some foam cleaner for carpet and upholstery, a bucket of warm water soft cloth. Spray a little foam on the cloth(very little water on cloth) wipe over upholstery, very lightly, it really makes it smell great....we've had so many campers, it's a trick that works...looks great!
Hi Los are the best, can't understand why they don't make em anymore - we enjoy ours just wish we could still sleep the Grandkids in the table/bed - getting too big and sleeping like puppies/kittens, all curled up on one another!
the camper I worked on was weather sealed with butyl rubber . The lowest cost roof caulking that Menards has. All of the penetrations for the awning and other things that were screwed to the exterior. Butyl rubber always stays plyable.
Hey joe! Nice to see you got your grandson time. That Old English stuff works great. I touched up a whole stairway with that before I sold my last house.
The only thing I can say is that you are amazing watched alot of your videos your grandchild is gorgeous love him when do you get some rest melissa is a very lookie lady you are a great homemaker thank you
Very Nice Joe, you are very detail oriented and very caring father. You always remind me of my parents. I got huge respect for you. May God bless you and your family.
Nice trailer , I've been thinking of selling everything and moving into a motor home or pull trailer . And traveling . Can't believe they don't make them anymore . This would be perfect for what I'm looking for .Grand son getting big . Tell he loves grandpa.
I had a friend that had one of these. He learned....never let a drunk friend barrow your stuff. He went over the things that have to be out of the way to lower the top. When he got it back from his so called friend, the guy totally didn't ready the inside for lowering the top and trashed a few things inside..I have a pop up and many people I know ask.....hey can I barrow it for the weekend.....UM.....NOPE....SORRY.....This is a great series too Joe....TY for your vids
Good looking helper you got ther Joe, I'm sure you spend as much time with him as you can. I'm in my 70's and I still can remember working in the "shop" with my Grandpa.
A few years ago there was a product called Liquid Gold that was used to clean and feed and polish all wood surfaces, paneling, cabinets and drawer fronts picture frames etc. I am not sure if they still produce it or not but it was as good if not better than Old English, plus it was sold either in an aerosol spray or in a container like Old English you had shown And also they had a product of same name that was used on stainless steel surfaces.
if you are looking far a few good camping spots I am from west of st. Louis area and I could recommend a few good campgrounds to stay for the night. we have several good state parks and and some core of engineers lakes\parks. I can even recommend my favorite state park that has trout fishing. we go there 4 or 5 times a year with our camping trailer to camp and fish.
I use oxalic acid for rust stains. I live near the ocean where we get rust on everything. You can get the powder from a paint store where they sell it to use as a wood bleach. I mix about 2 tablespoons to a quart of water and put it in a spray bottle. It works in a few minutes and is very gentle on fabrics. No need to scrub it. If it doesn't remove all the rust just on the first try just spray it again. You are supposed to wear gloves with it but I usually don't.
i dont know what you all payed for that hilo but iam sure you increased its value well over a thousand dollars just by the elbow grease you put into it
Back when I had a popup camper, I made a paper template of the floor, then cut a piece of indoor/outdoor carpeting. It trapped any dirt and sand. After a trip, it could be taken outside and cleaned. No need for adhesives or fasteners. Looked like short nap carpet but can be cleaned with a water hose on the driveway. You are one hard working son of a gun!
Hi-Lo campers are being made again in Transfer, Pennsylvania. They do have a website (www.hilotrailer.com) maybe you could contact them about a seal. Just thought I would pass on the info .
Thank u for this video I just bought a 1985 model and this video will come in handy. Another way I will seal Gap is to remove old damaged wood and widen against wall usingbducken screws that will have wood buttons so if someone wants to Hilo they can by temporarily removing trim
You say the battery needs to stay above 85% to raise and lower the top. How does the battery charge on a camper like this? We are looking into getting a Hi-Lo and need some more information about them.
When you have the camper plugged in it charges the battery. I am not positive about this next part but I know some campers the battery also charges when you have it plugged into your trailer hook up from your vehicle. (while you drive). I also keep a battery charger in my campers just in case.
He had a great time in there.... FINALLY. The first time I brought him in there carrying him he freaked out and cried, it was unfamiliar and scary for him. This time I sat on the couch and walked around and did work in there and talked to him and eventually he wanted in. Once inside he was a happy "camper" Lol.
HAHA, I left you a comment about putting the teflon tape on "reversed" trailer looks great, I was wondering if you were gonna paint the tongue frame and then BOOM, you painted it. How are the tires and the roof?
I didn't know you had this channel. I subscribe to your other channel so I hope you don't mind me subscribing to this one as well. Great camper! We have an Aliner and we love it! Thank you for sharing!
Welcome Paul. I have only mentioned this channel a couple times in videos on Joe and Zach and mainly just in the comments. On this channel I have most of my Louisiana stuff and I can do different things that do not fit in with the fairly set schedule of seasons and videos on Joe and Zach.
Thats very cool.. We had a collapsible Trail Manor 2619 for a while.. Always wondered about Hi-Lo's... Much prefer our 10 year old conventional 30 footer now though.. Good vids...
I want to complete my late husbands bucket list. Lost him last January. Been searching for something I can afford and something I can handle myself. Just decided that I'm going to be looking for a gently used Hi-Lo. LOVED the video. Got me thinking maybe I can do a camper renovation.
I have used Old English in every house I have lived in, it's legit. Your attention to the details is awesome. However Melissa is wrong on that stain on your trailer floor, because every time you see it, it will bother you. May not bother Melissa, but with that attention to detail you have, you'll be bothered. Up to you of course, but I would fix it.
Better put the curtains back or make some for the bathroom windows as well.. could be slightly embarrassing when you stand up to wipe... Not to mention maybe wax the aluminum and fiberglass on front and back, and Both sides.. Better water drainage.. and as far as passing the OCD test.. I would have replaced the flooring with some left over wood flooring from some of your jobs.. " I mean what does 20 square feet cost ?? " (If That) haha just a few thoughts..
I live just south of St. Louis. Near pevely and festus. My brother owns a Thai food restaurant in crystal city. You should stop there and eat. It's called Thai Rama.
Great job Joe. I don't know what you paid for the trailer but you could probably make some decent money on it if you flipped it. Those Hi-Lows are an interesting set-up.
That's turning out to be a nice little place! I can't believe they don't still make them. I'd rather have one of those than a pop up. I've seen some really nice pop ups, but only canvas between you and the great outdoors. I'm sure noise, light and animals could be a downfall of sleeping over your imagination. LOL
for the rust spot on the floor go to menards in the cleaning area you can find a brown bottle called wink it will remove rust stains real easy. just wipe it on and wipe it off stain gone.
Old English Oils should be put on at least once a year, preferably twice a year. It does make a difference in the looks. On those metal parts like for the propane bottle support and the rear bumper after you got most of the rust off, you should have put a coat of Rust Reformer before the final coat. It'll make them last years longer.
Did you check the wheel bearings? Very nice camper. Easy job putting in a floor. Make a template, buy a piece of laminate, put template on top of laminate & cut it. All done. Good Luck, Vinny 👍
What a bang up job on the Hi-Lo. Once Melissa's house is done, will you be selling the 5th wheel now that you have the Hi-Lo to camp in, or will you use it at the other property?
Love the channel! You should meet at Bass River resort and do a float trip. I will be home from June 27 until July 12, would love to meet you two and do a float trip.
I have a hi lo also im glad i found your videos 2 questions. 1. I like your noodle idea for the walls where get them 2. Where did you find the door gaskets
