The Book of Esther has no Divine instructions, no prophecies, no outright miracles. God doesn’t even get mentioned. We all love hearing how Mordechai and Esther saved their people in a time of crisis - but does this story have any moral message for us? As we’re listening to the Megillah on Purim, what can we learn about coming close to God in our everyday lives?
Join Imu Shalev and Rabbi David Fohrman as they dive deeply into Megillat Esther to find an answer to this question. They start off with a very odd set of comments from our sages, claiming that there were angels at work in the Esther story. The Megillah doesn’t say anything about angels, so what on earth made the rabbis think that? Rabbi Fohrman teases the possibility that these strange angel stories are all pointing to a link between Esther, a narrative from the end of Tanach, and another story all the way back in Genesis. If we explore that connection, we may eventually find the key to the Megillah’s moral message.

Hi there! I know this is unrelated to this video, but I was reading this morning chapter 25 of Devarim and something occurred to me as I was reading ch 25:6 and was wondering if there was any relevance. I'm asking you because it seems something up your alley so to speak. :) Anyway is there any correlation somehow between this and Yacov taking Joseph's 2 sons as his own and saying that any sons after them will be his? The pulling off of the sandal in 25:9 is quite interesting as well since the name Yacov means "heal grabber."

Why is the book called Esther and not Hadassah??

What does name Esther mean? STAR Formed as a method of concealment, Esther is thought to be forged from the Hebrew root s-t-r, which means "hide," in reference to the *Persian queen's hidden identity.* However, Esther is most often traced to the Old Persian stāra, which means "star," aligning the name to the Near Eastern goddess Ishtar. Her name has a sort of two-fold meaning, where a righteous person disguised to somewhat resemble a pagan goddess. Much like Joseph was disguised as an Egyptian. The fact that she was "hidden" and the story is all about concealment of HaShem, etc. makes the title of Esther appropriate.

Interesting.... I was thinking that GD was within both she and Mordecai. They are like a picture of Adam & Eve themselves, where they are no longer husband and wife, but as they're supposed to be close relatives. In a way a sister with a much older brother or close cousins. Abba sort of seems in the background seemingly watching them both giving them freedom in making their choices on how to handle situations. It's a story in similarity to Joseph and Pharaoh in that Joseph seems to play the prominent role in authority with the people and Pharaoh sort of hangs back in the background in all the decision making with Joseph occasionally consulting Pharaoh. Where in the Esther story the consulting is similar in that Esther fast and prays and Mordecai as well prays to GD who seems in the background.

@@eshel7 Yes, but Mordecai has a little work to do before G d takes up his home within him and that happens when Esther tells him to take off his sackcloth and fast( do passover but not physically, but spiritually,) for 3 days. He is to cover( Love or provide a covering with his words which IS SPIRITUAL PASSOVER) . How do we do spiritual passover? By not consuming our neighbor and maker( pointing our fingers at others) with our words. Before Esther asks him to do this he continually consumes and devours Ham n with his Words but not once she asks him to fast.

@@eshel7 Basically Mordecai had the God of Adam and Ham n working within him until he fasted the 3days. After he fasted the G d in Esther made his home in Mordecai. Going from the old man,Adam, to the New Man, Eve/ Esther!!!😉😘
