I had a similar sort of conversation with my kid when he was like "I want to turbo my VR6". I think he's stopped crying after I told him "start off by upgrading these things, which really add no power, then you can boost it last". Nope. Just checked. He's still crying.

My a4b7 1.8t has forward wheel drive. That thing alone puts me off from going higher than my current 230bhp. My engine mounts got shot from boost too. Maybe they were just old, but something to consider for tuning enthusiasts - more power, more wear, but boy, this is fun anyway. I wouldn't mind 350bhp with torsen awd, but that's too much hassle.

Thanks! I don’t get much time to make videos anymore, but I’m doing good. I still have a big list of videos to make and hope to get to them eventually.

One of the scariest videos on youtube. Destroyed so many hopes and dreams 😭😭😭

Hahaha! Hopefully it just sets some realistic goals for people! There is nothing more rewarding than a full build. It's just a bit more expensive than most people realize.

It's a whole system for 300 HP or 600 HP or whatever. Reducing weight now seems cheaper after watching this video. Good video.

I think I need to upgrade my catch can system. Think I’m getting to the point where I may need a vacuum pump. Probably not...

Well you are making BIG power :) What about a venturi dump? I've been considering that option myself.

I was considering a 914/B5 swap for years prior to seeing that you'd done one. It would be nice if you could put your parts list for your build on your website or do a specific video on that. I know I'd be very interested.

Parts lists for the builds on the website is a great idea! Heres a link to the parts list on the car, first post. Plus just about everything else on the build of the car. www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=114780

When Andrew talks about space constraints my brain pictured this calculation: my shitbox A6 1.8t+4 inch grinder = SPACE

im building a 1.8 for the street and im really torn on sticking to the stock rods or upgrading. im using a gtx3071 but i really only want the big turbo so it can make power all the to redline and i dont know if i plan to make tons of boost later but i just want a strong daily. anyone have opinions?
@budgetoutlaws9978
@budgetoutlaws9978 2 года назад
Are you rebuilding the engine at all? Or just running an unopened engine? The gtx3071 is a really good turbo with some big number potential. Generally I would say build the motor. Alternatively you could just do the build in stages and put your setup together on a stock engine then build a separate motor later. Keep your boost under about 12psi and you should be good. Watch the boost ramp in as well as it could spoil up quick on you which is what you don’t want with stock rods.

@@budgetoutlaws9978 I appreciate the response! I am planning to build with in some constraints, I bought a second head to build while the car is running on a k04 so I plan to re seal the head, replace lifters, valves, springs, retainers and the tensioner. Once summer comes around I plan to have rods, bearings, rings and the turbo ready to go and ill pull the motor. Also I'm trying to decide on a custom down pipe or go with the cts one and a cast manifold

Sounds like you have a good plan. Keep the boost low on the stock engine while you iron out issues then swap in your built motor (with rods) and you’ll be good.

@@budgetoutlaws9978I appreciate your help and do you know of a good tool for valve retainers and spring compressor?

So to keep it "budget" then stripped first generation Cayenne turbo is way to go- all parts are already there. Just needs diet.
