You find the same thing with fridge magnets, those rubbery little sheets of magnetized material. Virtually ALL sheet magnets like fridge magnets have those magnetic fields in strips (Halbach arrays), almost like furrows in a field. If you put the magnetized sides (backs) of two magnets together, they may stick a certain amount, but if you keep turning one until the furrows are parallel with the other one (kind of like what polarized lenses do to light), you find they want to stick together really well, and if you pull them slowly past each other at right angles to the "furrows", you can feel those "furrows" of magnetism pushing and pulling and pushing and pulling the two sheets apart and then together again, over and over. If you can stop the motion when they're at maximum repulsion, the sheets will hover a small distance apart from each other. Then move another tiny bit, and they snap back together. Feels weird, but it's fun to make it happen. Hold one in place with your fingers of one hand pressing it down onto a table, and slide the other slowly, FIRMLY gripped by your other hand, for best results.

Once you use a magnetic paper and there's dark areas in it, is it possible to reverse that process and make it look new again?
@1boobtube
@1boobtube 5 лет назад
You could maybe degauss it but it's not really needed. It will align to the next magnet you examine. Places that sell polarizing film and defraction gratings etc usually sell it. It's pretty cheap. You can just cut it with scissors if you get a larger sheet. ... I just waved a donut magnet from an old microwave magnetron over a 4x6 inch pc of it as I slowly pulled the magnet away. It reset the particles and it looks like a piece that never saw a field.
@ChuckFickens1972
@ChuckFickens1972 5 лет назад
Be interesting to see what happens if the paper is hit with a degausser wand.
@attilakiss8585
@attilakiss8585 5 лет назад
Yes, if you put it into a homogenous magnetic field (degauss may not work). But that require quite large equipment (the cross section of the magnetic core comparable with the paper size) so it does not worth the effort.

@1boobtube
@1boobtube 4 года назад
@@JLa748 , there is no freshness, just wave a strong magnet over it while slowly withdrawing it. It will randomize the pattern if the ghost image bothers you. It is used as a quick and dirty way to check which magnet blanks in a tray still need to be magnetized or which fixture (no of poles/orientation) was used etc.

This is how old I am. I worked at Radio Shack back in the days when TVs still had cathode ray tubes. Radio Shack sold electronic components, including the kinds of magnets that delivered a stronger magnetic attraction than the letters that are a hallmark of the refrigerator door. We had a few at the service desk, and I had occasion to move one of them past the screens of televisions we had as display models and watch the distortion effect they had on the colors of the image.
