Its ALL about effect for me. Everything is secondary. To honestly judge cannabis, it should be your first smoke of the day. Shit can get muddy after that. For our local small get together we had 22 entries and I only judged them as the first smoke of the day to give an honest judgement. 75+ entries gets tough if you dont have the time and have to power smoke thru the samples. agree, there are some aspects, smell, color, density before we get to smoking. 100% agree first smoke of the day. i take a hit about ever 30minutes to an hour to manage my PTSD and other issues. I need a weed I can smoke all day, not couch lock and no hour 4 headaches. the amount of bud Ive got that was great for a one or two a day dessert tokes but for an all day guy it wrecks my energy and head so somethings are also subjective but I think having judges make mission statements so to speak like judge a is interested in raw potency, judge b is interested in yields, and so on and so fourth
Everyone should call their US senators and encourage them to sign on to Senate bill CAOA that legalizes cannabis at the federal level ! Read the CAOA bill online and then call your US senators !
One of these days im going to make it out to the DGC cup, wasn't in the cards this year for us, my granddaughter is graduating high-school at the end of the month and next month we are taking her on a cruise to Jamaica for her graduation present. In August she starts her college journey and her first year as a college level volleyball player. So as you can see our plate is super full, lol. Next year lord willing and the creek don't rise,we'll be out there hanging with y'all ✌️😎🔥
I was a judge for the Maine Mota cup years back. I had a judge box for a week to score all the flowers, rosin, resin, and edibles. It was a low budget, not a huge event. The flower was half not worth smoking imo and the winners were all mac1 flower by different growers if I remember correctly

I would love to do more of the ; we all grow the same cut and see who's the best. I love that style competition! The breeders syndicate did something similar and constantly have similar competition within the group.

Emerald cup is 3 day event...pretty sure contestants send in there product weeks before the event. The best weed you will ever smoke, and great music! Well worth going
It should be like the NCAA tournament brackets. Judges can judge two strains at a time. Winner moves on. Entrants could see which strain was jusged superior to theirs. Fans could follow the favorite strains as the competition progresses. Everything could be out in open in real time. A final four if weed could then be set for a final weekend with a festival celebrating the finalists and smoking our a winner.
No I think the appropriate cannabis cup process should be . An entry per day and each judge is required to pick one each day to begin their day with and give an honest sober opinion for . That would offer each a fair chance to be appreciated . Also offer each a chance to get real feedback across an entire grow season. So we are always celebrating last years harvest as opposed to rushing to judge this years !
This would offer each strain a chance to shine when all the data entries from the various judges are collected and evaluated ! This would allow each strain a real chance to stand out and define itself . Then you hold an event where each judge presents their findings and passes out this years fresh samples to the guest to hold a less formal evaluation and voting process ! The more depth you can offer each and the more connections you build between the contestants and the judges the better off all participants can be . Also builds storyline for the breeders who work together and find inspiration from each other . If accompanied by a social media presence and each of the judges doing weekly updates this would build massive momentum and interaction and engagement to the whole industry ! Paying homage and respect to others work is good for all is the type of thinking !
This process might highlight strains that may otherwise not be highlighted. This one did not look the best did not smell the best . But overwhelmingly had the most positive feedback for any strain that was sampled in the latter half of the contest . Contest may start to be won on alternative traits is the idea .

The best id ever smoked was about 20 years ago and the seed came from emery seed Co and it was called Timewarp and a hippy friend of mine grew it outdoors and still to this day it stands out as the best I've smoked

An Amsterdam Cup. Maybe the 420 Cup..?! They do it perfectly! 6 months of testing the strains! "Santa Maria" was a winner for several years straight, this century. I've smoked Eskobars "Holy Princess" (Santa Maria x C-99), a fantastic smoke! Best weed for several years in a 6 month "smoke test", yet who's had the amazing "Santa Maria" in The US..?! It's certainly not a Haze! Has anyone heard of this 6 month cup to really get to what's the judges favorite really is..?! Or heard of the Santa Maria..?! Best for several years! A cut that won after 6 months of experts smoking many, many, varieties! SFV OG got 2nd place Indica at an early, i believe, HT Cup in Colorado 2012. THC was 16.5% . Maybe one over 25%? Same cuts are saying 25-30%, like SFV OG, now. Is testing changing..?! Best smoke I've had was probably under 20%, with a further spectrum of effects. I'll take 2 - 15% hits of my favorite, rather than 1 hit of the same variety at 30%. Better high from the 2-15% hits!!!
The ONLY person who can tell you if the weed is good or not is YOU!! The effect will not be the same for you as it is for another smoker (I have ADHD and weed/hash wakes me up, been awake for 3 days straight MANY TIMES just smoking joints & making music) and with all the different strains nowadays (blueberry, banana,strawberrie, grapefruit andsoonandsoonandsoon....) its impossible to say: this is the best strain.......

cannabis judging competitions are pretentious af. none judge for EFFECT! i dont understand what looks smell and whatever has anything to do with potency and effects. last time i checked we smoke cannabis for the effects and if youre smoking for some other reason, shame on you. cannabis is not alcohol. who cares what it looks like or smells like, will it get me stoned? thats all that matters
