Why EVs aren't selling in the USA be your heading. The USA isn't the world, despite what many Americans seem to think.

In the US, all car sales are down. Through May 2024 year to date, all U.S. car sales are down 1 million cars! Gas car sales in the U.S. are down about 3 Million cars from peak sales in 2018 to 2023. This trend is continuing in 2024.

In what way? Lithium isn't as bad as oil on the environment. Plus Lithium deposits are concentrated in small areas around the globe. Oil fields are everywhere. All these points are maybe valid for other companies EVs, but not for Tesla: Tesla checks all these points, charge infrastructure, range and price all are excellent with Teslas and that my friends is the reason why Tesla sold 1.8 Million BEVs last years, more than ANY OTHER company, BYD only sold 1.5 million and then, most other companies are a joke, they are losing the new market completely. Worst of all is Toyota: They sold only 100'000 BEVs and are the most unattractive in the whole market, they seriously risk their Kodak moment where they will go bankrupt because they don't offer modern cars anymore.

There is another reason. It's a bit esoteric, but you never truly own the electric vehicle. The manufacture (and/or regulatory agencies) can force software compliance that can alter the driving characteristics after your purchase. This is considered "bait and switch" by some.

Exactly, for the most part range anxiety only exists for non-EV owners, I suggest renting an EV for a roadtrip to get rid of this irrational fear. Do you know what sucks though? Realising you forgot to refuel last night and have to go 20 miles in the wrong direction before you can go to work. Coming in 2030 near you, as the EV fleet of the US reach 20-25% of the total car fleet.

exactly. this is an american problem.. who were too late to adopt EVs due to legacy automakers hardon for oil. countries who figured it out 10yrs ago like many asian countries have already reached 50% or higher in total EV sales, and their demand is extremely high due to ACTUAL price selection for the masses - eg. EVs avail starting from $10,000. until tesla can sell an EV for less than $20k by next year, they are going to be overrun by the asian EV makers. don't forget the united states does not represent the world. just because u.s. the chemistry of the battery is for all practical purposes is as good as it is going to be so for a longer range you need a larger battery a larger battery is heavier and it takes energy to move it a battery storing energy is much heavier than a petro car the loop greater range versus weight has a limit and we are already there greater size also means more charging and longer times to charge it

EVs are terrible for the environment when compared to the total impact of a even some of the worse consumer vehicals. Everyone I know that has and EV overall hate it after about a year or so of ownership. The biggest surprise complaint is how fast they go through tires and how expensive they are. These cars are generally a one trick pony that can at times accelerate quickly if all of the contiditions are met. The rest of the time you're better off driving a soul sucking Prius or equivalent.

@@CarTalkChronicles I don’t own one and don’t look forward to owning one. I don’t feel like I’ll own one until automotive manufacturers address the length of time it takes to charge the vehicle. I have young kids and having to stop for an hour (or more) to charge when going on a road trip is not my kind of fun. 6 of the people I know who have an EV use that to commute to and from work. This does work for them as a 2nd vehicle. The rest are (roughly 10 or so) that got a Tesla Model 3 or equivalent as a primary/only vehicle dread it and feel they made a mistake. They either got it to be “greener” or to save on the cost of ownership. Those who are going for the “green” movement are terribly wrong because of the huge impact on the environment in manufacturing and planned obsolescence of the vehicle based on the battery charge cycle life. As for the people saving money on gas. The total cost of ownership was quite more than expected because of taxes on mileage and the expensive tires they are required to purchase. The weight of the vehicle and a large amount of torque cause excessive tire wear. 2 people I work closely with end up having to get 2 sets of tires within the last 12 months. According to them they don’t drive their car like a race car and try to drive as economically as possible. I’ll stick with my slow and soft gas car and run it into the ground until something like hydrogen cars take off.

The main reason: EVs are scientifically not viable for general use.
@flybeep1661
@flybeep1661 4 месяца назад
Scientifically? What does that even mean? They exist, they drive, they are being bought so what exactly are you talking about? You stand to sound much more credible if you were to say economically not viable for general use. It's all about economics and guess what, you'll be wishing to be driving an EV in a couple of decades and nothing else because driving and ICE cars will become unrealistically expensive. Or do you perhaps think oil will be coming out of the ground for eternity? Lets see you wanting to drive an ICE car if it's 10 times more expensive to do so. Also, do you actually believe all those car manufacturers making EVs are doing it because they want to portray en eco friendly image? Nope, it's because they see the writing on the wall for the future. They invest and develop now in order not to fall behind. Those car manufacturers that aren't on top of the game in EV building in the future will just die and no longer exist. Btw, I just love how you just say they aren't "scientifically viable" and provide no clarification what so ever. It sounds like ignorant nonsense, probably not even aware what exactly you're saying.

@@flybeep1661 If you don't know what it means - I can't help you. Here's an example: EVs carry too much dead weight because of the batteries, therefore the energy conversion from burning coal/oil/NG, converting it into electricity, charging EV batteries is so inefficient (compare to just burning gas) that the idea of EV efficiency is absurd. And don't forget that energy coefficients from main source of energy (fossils) to electricity to EV batteries is so low that the EV idea is so stupid - it defies belief. If you also take into account how much energy it takes to produce batteries and then dispose of them . . .

I guess I have different science on the planet I live on. With my full house solar system combined with the local grid largely powered by recently built renewables none of your "science" makes any sense. My science is me laughing all the way to the bank with the crazy low operating cost and near zero maintenance. I wake up everyday with a full "Tank" filled as I sleep from either my full house battery system or directly from my solar power during the day or from the grid which is primarily renewables backed by minimum gas power. The off peak rates are nicely VERY low. Over a 10 year period I save over 26,000 dollars compared to my gas car in energy cost alone. Science - Shmience. You have no idea what you are talking about. @@ChessCat9
