I noticed Michael assuming his position in the family and exerting his strength, when he proposed to kill McClusky and Tattaglia. He commanded the room with his seated posture while talking to Sonny and Tom. They initially laughed. You know the rest.

I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but this is fiction written by Mario Puzo and Nicholas Cage’s uncle. I would like to know how they shot Moe Greene right in the eyeglasses.

What qualifies you to make "life lessons " from a Novel about the Mafia that indeed, bears no resemblance to the real thing anyhow?

Wow! I never thought of it that way! Very good observation. Whenever I did a meeting, I waited to be asked to take a seat. I bet my bottom dollar Michael had secret people out there to report to him about what was going on. The one thing that Fredo did was that was wrong was that he spent more time being a Sex Machine than being a Businessman. He could have had his own steam and take his duties responsibly. Back home he was nothing but the Family Whipping Boy, Lackey, and his HR Skills were bad because he hired Paulie who backstabbed them.

I dont think most of us missed anything from this scene. Having watched the 3 movies about 60 times. The greatest plus was exposing Barzini. Mo Greene was always going to die with Michael around. We already knew Fredo was a liability but had his minor usages.

I think Tom was also well learned at the right side of Vito. You learn this when he was trying to cool off Sonny after their Don was shot. In fact he was there at Vito's side a lot longer than Michael and possibly taught Michael a thing or two also.

Pretty much. Michael already knew Fredo's shortcomings. He made Fredo part of his overall strategy, pretty brilliantly. He never let Fredo know what he was thinking, and he had spies all over the place, reporting back everything Fredo and/or Moe Green did or said. I think Green's bullying physical abuse of Fredo wasn't something Green or Fredo knew that Michael knew about. I think that was a shock revelation that hit a nerve. But the admission Michael expected to extract was extracted. I think Moe didn't realize he was at Michael's mercy and on trial for his life. I'm not sure if Michael would've extended mercy if Moe had shown respect (and a cool-headed appreciation for the situation he was in). I wish I remembered the chronology better. Just how soon was the christening after the meeting with Moe Green? It says Neri hit Green a month after the meeting with Michael. It also says Neri killed Barzini. The movie shows both killings taking place during the baptism. Are they different? I guess it'll be fun finding out, with another watch or read.

Don't forget Hyman Roth and his comments about Moe's death. Hyman used Moe as a pawn (letting his death pass without revenge) to ensure his Cuban strategy would deliver. Also, Hyman and Moe were Jewish where family ties are very strong.

@@stevekoutros9358 Jewish ties are not just close family but also cultural. They do business with each other and help each other out in bad times and good. They stick togeather like glue even if they don't know each other personaly. My uncles' son's wifes brother kind of thing. Young Vito was sent to his family in the US. There are many groups like this in the world but the jewish community is one of the oldest and the best known.

Yeah, it's a well acted and the pace of it (as if l know anything about directing movies lol)keeps the audience engaged till the end!

That scene had the film crew and Producers in awe of Cazales performance slumped in that chair while Michael, looking out the glass wall window, with the questioning.

There's times to be a badass and guys to be a badass to,, and Moe wasn't just courting barzini,, he was dancing to the tune of his old friend and business partner Hyman Roth... Roth isn't mentioned in TG of course so,, we have to assume Moe was getting his balls from barzini.... And Moe Green being a true player in his own right,, was probably disgusted at the behavior and deportment of Fredo, and mistakenly misjudged the entire Corleone family on that.. and CAN YOU BELIEVE the way that Fredo punked for Moe when things got a little tense? I'm absolutely sure that Sonny the way he was written into the story would have immediately jumped out of his chair and mortally beaten Fredo with his own shoes... Michael of course was cool as a cucumber the whole time, but when he looked at Fredo and then looked back at Moe, it was almost like, I don't even want to think about it... If I were to have been the director, I would have put in an insert of Tom Hagen's face when he saw Fredo do that, going from urgent concern to absolutely horrified... Tom glancing over at Michael as if he's looking at a five stick dynamite car bomb half a second from going off... And if I can be forgiven another personal observation, Frank Sinatra AKA Johnny Fontaine, looking like he was about to throw up on his shoes and like he wished he was anywhere else....... Yeah right, Frankie did it his way, he should have sang it "I did it SAM GIANCANA'S way" lol...... THAT'S when Mike just concluded the deal, I know you've seen it too but it was just weird how it went from, the chef cooked special and there's chips for you downstairs,, to Moe threatening the entire Corleone family... And Mike just sitting there the whole time,, already planning Moe's demise and trying to control himself for his word to his brother...... Personally I don't know how he did it,, cold as space... I suppose seeing mortar rounds and machine gun fire killing your men on a Pacific Beach might have something to do with it......

And isn't it strange,, we talk about these people as if they were flesh and blood... Theoretical characters so multifaceted that even the medium of literature or motion picture can't truly bring it out...... And threads like this will go on into eternity.......

His instinct kicked in and performed the necessary CPR when he had witnesses to be able to state he wasn't responsible for the death of he didn't immediately jump in there. On the other hand, Micheal preferred not to play with his food.

When they assassinated Sonny and so brutally, Michael started to change. Thats when he decided to kill.

At 5:43, you can see Johnny sitting between Michael and Tom. He was silently but openly declaring where his loyalties lie. He may have been hesitant when he was handed the contract, but he made the right choice by signing it, gave the right answer, and did the right thing by sitting where he sat at the end of the scene.

Bugsy was actually sitting on his couch with his back to the window when someone walked up and machine gunned him. One of the bullets went thru the back of his head came out his eye socket and sent his eyeball across the room but the common incorrect belief was that he was shot like Moe Greene.

I’m not sure that I’d consider Johnny “stuck” performing in Vegas. If he’s the analog of Frank Sinatra in the films, he still has a massive career in movies and recording. Mike just wants him to come to Vegas a few times a year to “show his appreciation” for the Don and the Family.

Well said. I think Mo was done because he was skimming (too loud and defensive, even though Michael barely hinted at it) and was bullying Fredo constantly. Plus he tipped his hand with working with Barsini behind the scenes.

In the meeting when Mike came back from Vegas, it states Tessio knew Moe was a dead man from what was shared and how Vito responded. The book and the movie diverge on some points, but Vito was still greatly involved in all that Mike did.

Sonny was the intellectual/ shrewd genius in the operation, however he was too hotheaded..

No Sonny wasn't. Tom had to talk him down from going immediately to war after the Don was shot. He listened to reason - for a while. Also, after the second time Connie was beaten by her husband Sonny should have reasoned it was a setup. Shrewd genius - Sonny? Hah. The brains of the outfit besides the Don was Tom.

He was also a ruthless psychopath, but ok

@@Riri-oj1zs As I said elsewhere, the real tragedy was that Fredo really could have made something of himself out in Nevada. In Vegas, he was out from under the shadow of his father and older brother learning a new aspect of the business. If he had kept his nose clean and really studied Moe’s approach (while remaining loyal to the family, of course), he could have had something “on his own” like he always wanted. As it was, Fredo completely misused this opportunity, which eventually doomed him.
