The gap looks massive right as his butt is directly over the bar, but the rest of his body doesn't seem to clear by as wide of a margin. Look at his shoulder blades at 6:59, he only had a couple cm of margin. It's is ABSURD to think he would have cleared something like 2.41+

Partyka's jump was incredible, but you NEEEED to also mention Troy Kemp's 2.37 jump from 1995 (in Eberstadt), ridiculous clearance on that one as well. Bohdan Bondarenko's 2.35 in Moscow 2013 was also a huge one.

Anthony Height is still likely the highest jumper here off pure "max touch - standing reach". Recorded a full second of hangtime in that venice beach contest multiple times, without knee bending. Isaiah Rivera thinks he had 52" in the tank on wood floor if he had it measured before his injury. BTW, he touched 11'8", not 12 foot. But he's 5'6", so that's ridiculous

Partyka was high but he didnt actually clear that 2,37 that clearly. When he came down there was barely 1-2cm between him and the bar. I dont think that he would have cleared 2,40 with that jump. It's mostly an illusion.
@Slapthematwrestling
@Slapthematwrestling 8 часов назад
It’s true that at one point on his way down there really was only 1-2cm space between him and the bar. But prior to that there were a good 10 cm between him and the bar 😂. What is this illusion you are speaking of? Must be one hell of an illusion cause Guy gave us about 30 angles to see it in in slow motion and not one of them screams at me 1-2 cm. I think that it’s you who are seeing an illusion giving you the sense that they was only 1-2 cm.
@11pupona
@11pupona 8 часов назад
@@Slapthematwrestling the illusion is that jumping a bar is not how high can you get but if you can clear the bar or not. There is only 1 or 2 cm in his way down, if the bar is 2 or 3 cm he would have not cleared it.
@TheOriginalGankstar
@TheOriginalGankstar 7 часов назад
@@Slapthematwrestling Isn't it obvious. With that specific arc he would not have cleared a WR height, despite his impressive apex. All for the reasons already stated, which many others will co-sign, mainly because it's a reasonable and probable hypothetical outcome. Compare the footage here to Troy Kemp's 2.37 clearance in Eberstadt, 1995, to see what huge clearance through all phases looks like. That jump had much more of a chance to clear far higher than its actual bar height.
@normcmiller
@normcmiller 2 часа назад
@@11puponaare you forgetting what the video is about? The highest jump…not the highest high jump. Let’s say he barely cleared the bar on the way down but his pelvis reached 10’….who cares about the high jump bar. That’s the highest jump

The high jump is the gold standard, but I always wonder about the gymnasts in the floor routine. How high do they get? In the high jump, when the bar is lower, there may not be a psychological obstacle to hitting the mechanics of the jump just right.

In Hight School I triple jumped 48 feet 11 inches, my coach and everyone watching were in shock because I was a good 2 and a half feet behind the line when I jumped 😧 giving away a 50 foot jump. It still bothers me 24 years later 😣 that and not running the 4x400 at CIF finals even though my coach and teammates begged me too run 😫 they ended up running a 3:24.98 🤮 missing out on advancing by 1 place 😲

So what is the standing vertical of most world leading high jumpers? Does a 50 inch vertical mean that those basketball players could potentially be world class high jumpers? The high jumpers look like they are orders of magnitude greater jumpers than those basketball players.

@Neofolis

It's unfortunate that without the right camera angle there is no way to ever no what the highest bar he could have cleared would be. That said, despite the huge high point, he would probably not have even cleared 2.39, because his high point wasn't in the right place. In the second angle that you showed, he was extremely close to the bar on the way down, so if the bar had been slightly higher, he would have hit it.

Interesting topic......I will say though that the HJ is one of those events that, although you clear the height, like this guy did, you really don't know how much higher you might have actually jumped......so, yeah, this dude most likely would have cleared a height greater than 2.37, but not so sure he is clearing over the 2.45 WR .......the HJ has so many moving body parts along with timing that its really hard to say based on the video footage captured. This is the same problem or issue that the PV has, which is, clearing a set height with a bar is great, but how high did you actually clear? I do wonder if they could use a beam of light instead of a bar to determine a height cleared; however, the only problem is, HJers on occasion will graze the bar......if they used a beam of light it would not allow grazing since once the beam would be broken it would be considered a miss........
@stephenherring

A legal high jump must be off of one foot. Many of these comparisons are off of 2 feet which makes a difference. Also, a high jumper has to get his entire body over the height while these comparisons do not do that.

if partika didn't done 2.37 again, i think there was a mistake on placing the bar, and that was not 2.37, in any case i think with his shoulder he was not same far from the bar as his back and glutes.... if you look maybe he touch the bar a little with his shoulder. It would be interesting knowning some volleyball player jump.

One hell of a question. (First I thank the Cuban fans for rushing the pit. I will ask my amigo, a Cuban Boxing trainer what that moment ment to El Revolution.) Nostradamus you seek to exceed yourself? Ladies and gentlemen that is the thing that cannot be done. Nostradamus is the best. If the Devil were to die he would ask Nostradamus to write and read his obituary. Only that way could he be immortalized as a saint. Back to reality: Two Hollywood stars launched their careers in the movie "Some Men Can't Jump". The movie put who jumps highest into the spot light. Where is has remained. Nostradamus reminds us that fiction is fiction because most often fiction is wrong. Nostradamus sets the record straight but amazingly keeps the question asked in the movie open. Bravo Nostradamus bravo 👏.
