Yusenji Copper Mine is located in Ugawa Town, Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is a copper mine that operated from 1775 to 1921. The copper mine was run by former Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida's brother, Mr. Akitaro Takeuchi, who later founded Komatsu Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (now Komatsu). In 1921, he made use of his experience in managing mines in various parts of the country, and achieved results through modern management, such as the construction of a dedicated railway stretching for about 8 km between Yusenji and Komatsu, and the adoption of the small blast furnace blowing method. At its peak in the early Taisho era, it had 1,600 employees and about 5,000 people, including their families, and created a mining town with hospitals, post offices, and elementary schools.
Around May every year, about 80,000 shaga flowers are in full bloom.
