This is good content for anyone who’s in the industry! Recently had to go through this with my producer friend. He had to call in so many favours to get the best crew and equipment within budget. In the end, me and him are getting paid way less than we normally charge in hopes to get the next batch of videos for a bigger budget. Keep up the content! These are great examples for people who are just getting into bigger budgets and bigger crews.

I was shocked to see this having only 1.6k views, I thought it'd be in the hundreds of thousands. Thank you for sharing your experience in the industry Scott🙏I've been on a 2 day binge on your videos now and they definitely will help me in my journey ahead that I'm about to start on.

Just discovered your channel today mate, and making my way through your content. This just sounded like one of those cursed projects but mad respect for persevering and getting it over the line. Looking forward to watching more of your stuff. Dan

love your video's man! wayyyyy better than most content on here..I just wish you paid yourself first..I got a $10k job by a company for 2 videos ...literally half that would go to me...the other half is the rest of the budget to complete..I stopped doing music video due to the extremely low budgets ..but I get what you're trying to do..get better budgets in the future so you taking risk so yea I get what you're doing! lover it though man ..the way you're doing your thing you're bound to have a million dollar production soon

I'll play devils advocate here. I get not taking pay to work on something you love or will further your career in some way. I've done it multiple times and probably will again. I want to make it clear though that you should not be doing this regularly. It's not good for our industry and it's not good for you. If you went to school for this, if you have a passion for this, if you've invested time and money into this. Please, please, please value yourself and your capabilities. There is too much working for free in our industry and it just lowers the budgets for everyone looking to hire a professional crew for video production. If you once operated a camera for 600/day and now you're asked to operate one for 400/day that's because enough people gave a discount on a passion project to drive those rates down overtime. Again, I know it makes sense sometimes. Just don't do it all the time. For you new people in here watching and maybe reading this. You are worth it, you don't need to work for free or discounted rates, charge what you are worth. There will always be work for good people. If you are worth a damn (you are) there will be another project just as good that will pay you what you are worth. All that said, great video, great insight. Subbed.

I couldn’t agree more Tyler. I will do unpaid (for myself but not crew) project again at some point no doubt, but it’ll be for my reasons only and not for a client. To many favours and wanting the project to be the best it can be over the years has broken and taught me to not take the hit personally any more. It’s bigger than that and circumstantial though on a job by job basis. I might make a video discussing this in the future because it’s something I’ve often struggled with throughout my career so far.

Me too! I would love to see that video because its so relatable for all of us no matter what tier of work you are getting. Its tough to not feel like its the right thing to do sometimes as well. You want it to be great, you want those anamorphics but its not in the budget! Well I can take a hit on my rate for the overall benefit then. It's so easy to do that but its not always right. People are not asking plumbers, or doctors, or nanny's to do that sort of thing. It has to do with the emotional investment you have in a project or more so the end result of the project. Definitely make that vid! Hit me up if you want to chat more about it sometime. Maybe we can each lend each other some insight.
