No matter how many times I hear this song, it's never long enough.

It's impressive to me that a country song can be about armed banditry, sailing, large-scale construction projects, interstellar space travel and reincarnation.

When I was a boy Willie Nelson was old, and now 30 years later and he is still old, I think this dude was born old!

Can we take a moment to appreciate the brilliant guitar playing of Reggie Young? The man was a legendary session guitarist in Memphis and Nashville. His band once toured with The Beatles as their opening act. He played guitar on some of the biggest hits of artists such as Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson. He was also a member of Jimmy Buffet's Coral Reefer Band.

I don't know who came up with the saying, The Mount Rushmore of Country music, but they were exactly that . I remember seeing a Late Night with David Letterman and the musical guests were these guys. The Highwaymen individually are all Superstars with a capital S. And letterman was just giddy and beside himself at having them all on the show at the same time. And who wouldn't be. He isn't a full on Country music fan, but like all true music lovers he knows greatness when it's right in front of you. I would bet the Dave will remember those moments forever.

In 1991 and 1995, The Highwaymen toured Australia on their Road Goes On Forever tour. I saw them in concert in Newcastle in 1995 (I still have the T shirt). I was familiar with all 4 artists and I thought Waylon might have been the weak link in that company. Not so! He was the standout performer on the night. What a concert! 4 genuine superstars! And this song was fantastic. A big shout out to the songwriter Jimmy Webb. Boy, did he turn out some hits!

Played at my mates funeral last week, he was 46, English we lived in Coogee Beach Australia together in 1999...What a man... Had not heard this song before, heard it alot since, perfection, it will be in my life forever...and through it so will he, rest in paradise!
