I just teared up. So many happy tears, as a gay woman raised on country music, this is something that's definitely been needed. Thank you Brandi. Thank you highwomen
Sarah Buhlman The tide is ah turn’in, Sarah... Thanks to brave souls like Chely Wright, and many others, who bravely came out and are still kickin it in country music, despite the struggles. Brandi is leading the way; riding on the shoulders of so many who paved the way for baby gays to finally showcase their talents... “it’s a new dawn, it’s new day, it’s new life...and I’m feeeel’in good...” 🎶😉
This song did change my life. I'm 14 and I am a huge Jason Isbell fan (because of my dad) I really liked this song and when I found out Isbell wrote it I just started crying I was so happy.
Im a straight women who is proud to stand for love regarless of the sex of the person. This song makes my heart happy!! Great job ladies!! One of my favorites
Same here. I am straight, but my Uncle was gay and a cousin that's a lesbian. I sat with her crying, me crying with her. I stopped many people trying to hurt her. I stood by my uncle when my Dad didn't want him around us kids because he was gay. I told my dad if he has to leave then I will leave with him and you will never see me again. My Uncle was my very best friend. He has been gone for 15 years now. I still miss him. The first time I heard it, I fell in love with the song. I hope that someday EVERYONE accepts everyone NO MATTER what their sexuality is.
To bad the country music world is still stuck back in time. These girls are as good as any male country singers yet they won't get the same recognition 🥺
As a cis hetero woman, I love this and I am so happy for you and all of the LGBTQ+ community, the recent supreme court ruling, with all that's going on in the world, I think this is finally the time things are going to change for all of us! For the better! I hope! Thank you for a gorgeous song!
I grew up on Country - Willie, Waylon, Crystal Gayle, EmmyLou Harris. I quit listening to Country in the early 90s as it was getting away from its roots too much - too much crossover with Pop. THIS is what Country music should be. Beautiful harmonies, beautiful melodies, wonderful song. No screaming, no music so loud it drowns out the singer's voice, lyrics that aren't offensive and that you can understand.
Valentina Plasaj I think this work in a group is really her wheelhouse...she’s at home here..and it’s going to make her a different artist...in a good way.
Man this dong really understands. As a long time lesbian I could have used this song back when. I loved her in secret, I've loved her out loud....pulls on all of my heart strings
Great SONG Brandi Carlile breath new life into THIS as only she CAN... Superb Greetings from Dublin Ireland brother and sisters We love her HERE Jason and Amanda too A women with a careful heart .. what a lyric
Loved Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris as the Trio in the 80's. Then Lilith Fair led by Sarah McLachlan in the 90's, now case/lang/veirs and the Highwoman. Great partnerships to showcase great songwriting by women in music. Equality for all in the music industry is more of a reality now thanks to these determined musicians.
If she ever leaves me, it won't be for a cowboy like you 👀 Absolutely love this 💯👍 the whole album is just outstanding 👏👏👏👏💖💜💖 This is So being added to my (lesbian feels) playlist 😎😎
@@lanadelreyfanforever Yup. The Joke blew my mind the first time I heard it (and still does), too. I haven't heard a single one of her songs that I didn't like.
@@Treeman1177 it's a feel good song with a good message for a community of people who dont have country songs about who they are and idk if you know this but this comment section is fully of out and proud lesbian brandi lovers
Yes Mam. But, I needed this song too. In the song “The Joke”, there is a line that, Brandi says, “It’s your brother’s world, for a little while longer.” Look forward to the day I can say to my children, God have it to us all. Love each other, as I have loved you.
Lyrics! I see you watch her from across the room Dancing her home in your mind Well, it takes more than whiskey to make that flower bloom By the third drink you'll find out she's mine I've loved her in secret I've loved her out loud The sky hasn't always been blue It might last forever Or it might not work out If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you She loves Wild Horses and Tumbling Dice She don't have a single tattoo She'll drink all the liquor and leave you the ice That's too much cologne, she likes perfume I've loved her in secret I've loved her out loud The sky hasn't always been blue And it might last forever Or it might not work out If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you If she ever leaves, it's gonna be for a woman with more time Who's not afraid to let her dreams come true If she ever gives her careful heart to somebody new Well, it won't be for a cowboy like you Hey, I've loved her in secret I've loved her out loud The sky hasn't always been blue It might last forever Or it might not work out If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you
Awesome song. It's not good to be with someone who left another heart 💔 though. People need to heal before we just get together because it's the easy path for the heart. No truth in that - except the truth that she thinks of someone else - so she already left you.
The reason she’s going to leave you is because you’re with her and you’re worried about her leaving you for me. 🤷🏽♂️ no one cares why she left you the point is she’s going to leave you because you’re insecure
The song isn't for just one group. I'm a straight man with a fondness for occasional crosdressing. It started during a long term relationship with my children's mother. Long story short we didn't stay together. When I listen to this song I think of that relationship and our split. "If she ever leaves me, it won't be for you" is me telling my ex that I'm not going to stop expressing a feminine side of me for a woman because she refuses to accept it." P.S. I bought the album after hearing their appearance on Howard Stern. Months later I actually listened to these lyrics and thought oh s**t, this fits my story and feelings.
damon b The name is a tribute to the Highwaymen. These are four ladies who are all successful individually in their own right. They formed this group to draw more attention to women in the industry. I am certain all of the Highwaymen would approve of this group and the name.
