In this episode, I ride alongside Pangong Lake, the worlds highest saltwater lake and 1/3 is in India, and 2/3 in China. That means, I have to cross the 8th highest mountain pass, to avoid getting too close to the border with China...

As a motorcyclist myself with over 600,000 miles of traveling all over the USA and Canada I find it so very very amazing Noraly does all her miles mostly on simple, light, reliable single cylinder motorcycles. I did most of my traveling on six cylinders found within the Honda Goldwings. Noraly is my favorite You Tube motorcyclist. She humbles me. She’s the true spirit of a global adventurer and she is the best at teaching us via her travels. What a great teacher you are Noraly. Thank you. 🙏❤️

One of the main advantage of travelling on a single cylinder motorcycle is that it has less heating issues, more gas mileage. You can cover more miles with less fuel compared to 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder motorcycle. So overall, when it comes to single cylinder motorcycles, it has its advantage despite of engine refinement. I live in India myself. For us, 300 cc motorcycle is more than adequate. 90% of Indians they are still using single cylinder motorcycles here. I use a twin cylinder btw for a better refinement.

Funfact : The pangong lake is the remnant of the old Tethys Sea that existed millions of years ago, before Indian plate collided with the Asian plate, which gives rise to the Himalayan range, the lake is just part of the sea that got stuck between the mountains.
@alani3992

The mixed breed between cows and yaks are called Dzo. They are less resilient than yaks but yield more milk. I was in Ladakh with a group about 50 years ago, in only the second year the country had been opened for tourism. We had to travel in an ancient bus from Srinagar, a 2-day bus ride via Kargil and the Pensi La pass. We only saw busses and lorries, no cars. We had to bring all the food with us from Srinagar since there were no shops in Ladakh which then had a pure subsistence economy. It was like coming into the Middle Ages. Everyone still wore traditional clothes. We stayed in the only hotel in Leh which featured a single 25W incandescent light bulb. It was the adventure of a lifetime. How things have changed!

The area was opened in 1974. I went in 1976 during summer vacations after first year in College. We trekked from Pahalgam to Kargil. From Kargil we went to Leh by bus. It seems Leh had obviously developed in the year from the time you went. We stayed in a very decent hotel. The bazar was bustling. There was even a cinema hall - with one show per day. Electricity was provided for 3 hours a day through a 20 MW genset. Tough luck if the film did not finish in those 3 hours - which was often and did happen to us. We also visited the Shey Monastry and Hemis Gumpa. Spent 5 wonderful days in Leh.

There is a long list of considerations to be factored into the equation when ADV riding Itchy Boots style. Agree the RE is a good fit for where she is now but we know that will change significantly. Weight of bike, fuel economy/range, and parts availability around the world would rank pretty high I think. As much as we all like more power, it can also be a detriment. Minor thing but that low front fender would have to go. No good in mud and rocks.
@TheKing-xp7lq
@TheKing-xp7lq 7 месяцев назад
Agreed and those expensive 1000+ cc motorcycles with all electronic aid are just a scam. Even the professional don't put to use the full potential of those bikes. I would say a smooth 500cc single and lite twin would be sufficient. The rider will get used to the bike as more and more kms/miles put on. Simple easy to repair by anyone is the key and many manufacturers must go back to basic motorcycle manufacturing

Hi Noraly, loved your videos of Ladakh. Those birds you saw are Black-necked cranes, that visit that area of Pangong lake. They look very similar to the Saris Cranes of the Indian Plains, I used to love watching them when I was in India. Keep the great videos coming, love the new Himalayan, my son will be very jealous, I haven't heard that he's riden one yet, he does tours and photography for Royal Enfield across India. I think they are Demoiselle cranes which migrate each year from Japan to India
@saurabhvashist4051
@saurabhvashist4051 5 месяцев назад
@@PaulAllen6304 Those are definitely Black-necked cranes. The black neck and tail feather plumage of the crane distiguish it from the gray color of the Demoiselle. Unlike the Demoiselle cranes, the Black-necked cranes reside in the Tibetan Plateau, Ladakh, Sikkim and Bhutan and simply move to lower elevations on the Plateau or the Himalayas. The Demoiselle crane has a long distance migration instead and only migrates to India's warmer states of Rajasthan and Gujarat from Central Asia. Also, the Swiss naturalist Otto Pfister wrote a book called Birds and Mammals of Ladakh (Oxford India) that included this bird on the cover of the book. It is the state bird of the Union Territory of Ladakh and in Noraly's video one can see that it is a pair with a young one whose plumage is yet to mature.
