My 6+ Hour Hippo Course! thechessgiant.gumroad.com/l/hippopotamusdefensecourse

Thank you for posting this video. For me I think it might be the most useful video you have yet posted on the Hippo. I always move my king and queen pawns to block any opponents bishop, and usually lock up the center as you show here. So the beginning of the video looks very familiar to me. The rest of the game was very useful for me, and a good example of winning without castling.

Hey Allan! Thanks for the kind words brotha. It's cool because I myself am also learning more about the Hippo - trying to share new ideas whenever I get the chance. Hopefully I can keep learning and share more. Glad you got some ideas out of this one, very nice game from black!

I started learning the Hippo like 2-3 hours before my tournament match. I went up against someone about 100-200 points higher, and took him to a king/pawn endgame all the way to move 59, with him using 1 hour and 25 minutes out of his 1 hour and 30 minutes (5 minutes left, I still had over an hour left on mine) using the hippo. Since then I've played about 20 online games with it, and won about 16/20. My best win rate with any opening. 2 of the games I lost was just cause I failed to see something basic, not anything against the hippo. So I bought your 6 hour hippo course

loved the tip 4 moves away for a knight to get to square on diagonal..I can see that being very useful in end games which normally equals time crunch
@TheChessGiant
@TheChessGiant 2 года назад
Glad you found that helpful Joe! Stuff like that helps me a ton because (like you said) in time pressure situations you don't have time to calculate like that. I may make a video on this actually. One square diagonal takes three move, two squares diagonal takes four moves, 3 squares diagonal squares takes two moves. Would be fun to put a number on each square on the board and see what it looks like. Thanks Joe!

Wait, don't three square diagonals take 2 moves, and 1 square diagonals also?

There is a frequent statement in chess regarding the "2 bishops advantage." But I'm not sure on how to always take best advantage of "2 bishops advantage" I actually prefer a knight and a bishop over 2 bishops, especially later in a game, but maybe that is because I don't know how to best take advantage of "2 bishops advantage" Could you please consider making a video on how to best take advantage of "2 bishops advantage" ? Thank you!
@TheChessGiant
@TheChessGiant 2 года назад
Ya so generally a two bishop advantage is nice because bishops can move from one side to the other very quickly. The move fast, and with two bishops, you can potentially cover all 64 squares. However, it really depends on the position. Generally, bishops are better in open positions and knights are better in closed. Also, but bishops side by side and they become monster twins! However, just because you have a bishops pair doesn't mean you have a bishops advantage. Knights are better in closed positions and I personally like knights a lot more in the endgame. This is a minority opinion but knights can capture off any locked up pawns. With bishops, if it ain't your color, you simply don't have a chance. Hope this helps John!

The videos about hippo are really helpful! Keep them coming xD. I'm using this for black and KIA for white at the moment. I wanted to keep a king's indian repertoire for both colors, but it's quite hard to maintain this at the 1700+ without any theory and get to my desirable rating of 2000... (I'm not Hikaru that can play anything and win haha)

You got it Klaus, glad to help! And ya that's totally fair concerning the ELO system. The higher you get, the less mistakes the opponent falls for. The worst thing you can do is attack the Hippo too quickly, and many top players just sit there and wait for the Hippo player to respond. Let me know what other content I could make that would be helpful for you, thanks!

At 8:48 what if Nxf4-Nxf4, Pg4 forking. You'll get at least one knight and pawn, and still have a chance to trap his bishop. I'm still learning.
