Thank you both so much! I was in tears with the realization that so very many had died, to never return, and Britain had so little to show for it. The Queen Mother LIVED through both World Wars. It was personal, and she made it real for both of her daughters. We must honor history, thank you!

Great ! Presentation ! American by Birth; Southern by the Grace of God, from the Great State of Georgia, USA !! this is maybe of interest to others ! even tho my father served in WW2; (jan 1942 thru end of war & duration, battle of the atlantic) in the USA memorial day was enacted to honor WW2 vets ! my father was very dedicated to armistice day in America as well 11/11/11; 1918, for one grand uncle who suffered from wounds of some kind. somewhat from the great war ! i was very young but i could see his wounds, scars & scared me, & then he would have terrible dreams & wake up yelling for his fellow soldiers !! always admired the England`s honoring of the Great War, in the USA now in the 2000, very sad us all but forgotten !

The Armistice Day commemoration is in large part to try and prevent us from forgetting the terrible price our forebears paid. Their sacrifice should never be underestimated, ignored or taken for granted. Thank you for your story.

This was so interesting , I had often wondered about the history of this service and tradition . I’ve visited four of the memorial sites in Normandy and it really hits home when you see what was a small proportion of the fallen soldiers honoured at these well kept and tendered graves ,just how important it is to honour their sacrifices . I must get Gareth’s book on the Queen Mother , she had first hand experience of how war affects so many people. The bouquet is such a heartfelt gesture .
