The oldest backgammon board I've ever seen was from the Palace of Knossos on the island of Crete in Greece. It was made of lapis lazuli and white marble. Though no checkers, nor dice were excavated, the board was exquisite and unmistakable. Backgammon is truly a treasure, one of The Great Games.
