Spain have beaten......a washed up Croatia...Albania....the worst Italian side in living memory...a Georgian team that only qualified via the Europa League...an over rated Germany.... and a France team that only managed one goal in open play (against Spain). Spain's best player is still in school. if any side is overrated, it's Spain - and they'll be found out on Sunday :)
Since stealing the world cup from Germany in 1966 karma has never forgiven England now they're condemned to always being a bridesmaid and never a bride
The result should have been 2-1 to England in normal time as West Germany's equaliser came from a wrongly awarded free kick. The ball was just over the line for the third goal and it was known back then, but you have to see the high definition movie film from ground level looking straight along the line and not from an angle, which does exist but has rarely been shown in documentaries. You cannot make a decision based on the fuzzy black and white TV pictures that are always shown, as the image is just not clear enough.
And Portugal in 2016. Iirc they were heavy underdogs against a very strong French side that year (who would go on to win the best World Cup 2 years later) even though I know it feels weird to call Portugal an underdog.
1960 - declined to participate 1964 - lost to France in qualifying 1968 - came third. lost to Yugoslavia in semi final 1972 - lost to West Germany in qualifying 1976 - failed to qualify 1980 - failed to get out of group 1984 - failed to qualify 1988 - failed to get out of group 1992 - failed to get out of group 1996 - lost the semi final on penalties to Germany 2000 - failed to get out of group 2004 - lost the quarter final on penalties to Portugal 2008 - failed to qualify 2012 - lost the quarter final on penalties to Italy 2016 - lost the round of 16 to Iceland… 2020 - lost the final on penalties to Italy 2024 - lost the final to Spain
At least now Southgate is gone England can get back to their usual tournament winning form of previous decades. Southgate was an outlier in English football history as we all know.
I'll give you the summary... to date, they haven't won sh*t since 1966! Good luck this year, I honestly hope you win! You know what they say... eleventh time's a charm!
@@PincoPallino-zh8wm Not strictly true. They won the now defunct British Home Championship trophy outright 34 times. Ok, it was only four teams (England, Scotland, Wales & N. Ireland) but it was a recognized trophy and it was very competitive, especially between England and Scotland. Beginning during the 1883-84 season, it was and still is the oldest international association football tournament in the world.
@@Benya-d9jyeah that’s the UK competing against itself and the last rendition was 1984 💀😂 no one cares, you might as well bring up U17 world cups or at least mention that the England’s women’s team won the last euros that’s way more relevant that the British Home Championship lmfao
Russia (USSR) was actually very strong at one point, with Lev Yashin known as one of the best goalkeepers of all time. Slovakia also played better than England in the round of 16 in the euros this year, with England only surviving because of a very lucky bounce into the net during a very dubious amount of stoppage time given. Wales made the semifinals that year carried by Gareth bale if I’m not mistaken lol
The mighty England didn't care about the euros until 1996 which we basically won really. But what baffles me is how come people's hair grew so much quicker in the 60s and 70s? Its amazing!!
If it hadn't been for a wrongly disallowed goal against Belgium they would have reached the final in 1980 but would probably have lost against the Germans. They were also one of the favourites in 1988.
The only strong teams in the Euros are Germany, Italy, Spain, France and England. Everyone else is meh. Also, Greece, Soviet Union and Denmark have won. Lesser teams have managed to win. No lesser teams have ever won the world cup. Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Uruguay, France, Spain and England. World Cup is on another level. Euros is not the same thing. So many weak teams taking part in it. It's literally like Copa America but with more top tier teams and weak teams, simply because Europe is bigger than South America, with more countries. Only 10 footballing nations in South America. Still, 5 European teams with 12 World cup titles vs 3 South American teams with 10. Goes to show the tenacity of South American football. Mbappe said, South American football isn't as advanced as european and yet he lost World cup to Messi.
Bro, a weak European team like Luxembourg would trouble most South American football teams, and they've never qualified for a Euro, what are you on about? Argentina is the only scary SA team at the moment. The others are meh, including Brazil, who are in their worst era in 35 years. The quality at the Euro is much better on average than the World Cup, and of course Copa America. Prior to Argentina's win in the WC, there were 4 consecutive tournaments won by Europe, the largest gap in history for SA. The SA record is 2 in a row. You're fooling yourself if you think SA football is anywhere near European football. You could say you overachieved winning as much, but some countries have other things on their mind than just football and they're still winning. I'd say that's more impressive, than 2 football obsessed nations for whom football is the only hope winning 8 WCs, and another one that won 2 during pre-history. No one in Europe will kill themselves because their nation lost 7-1 at a WC.
@@bogdanescu86 Luxemburg has a team? Who would've thought 🤣🤣🤣🤣. You day dreamer, where is Luxembourg in the rankings? Most SA teams would trouble most European teams. Only strong European Teams today are Spain, France and England. Everyone else is meh. Germany fell in two group stages in two world cups in a row and Italy failed to qualify for two world cups in a row. Your two most successful world cup teams are garbage, even Ecuador did better. You're such a proud delusional day dreamer. Also, to say SA over achieved? We were better than everyone else for 10 world cups, simple as that. Not to mention the SA legends we had over the years, any SA football legend puts euro legends to sleep any day of the week. Even at club level today and for most generations, the biggest names in the biggest clubs have all been SA. Your best ever European player Cristiano doesn't even come close to Lionel Messi. Admit it, your Europe is not as good as you think it is. Every time an SA team has met a European team in a major football tournament, the European side fell, with the only exceptions being 1990 and 2014 world cup, where Argentina fell to Germany on both occasions. Go see your best European teams today, where are they? What're Germany and Italy doing at world cups and major tournaments? Even our meh teams like Brazil went further in the last two editions, you're a proudful joke of bad taste. Your most successful team is Germany with only 8 total international trophies, second is France with 6. Argentina has 20, Brazil 18 and Uruguay 17. Europeans are miles out from having as much gold.
@@bogdanescu86 actually it's the other way around. Most south american teams would trouble more European teams than European teams troubling South american teams. Just check the rankings. Every time a South american team met an European team in the final of a major tournament, the European side lost, with the only exceptions being 1990, 2014 and 2017 when Germany beat Argentina in two world cup finals and Chile in a confederations final. Not to mention, your two most successful world cup teams have done terribly in the last two world cups. Germany went out in the group stage on both occasions in 2018 and 2022. Italy didn't even qualify. The only good European teams today are Spain, France and England. You're literally just arrogant and can't accept South american football being strong. Most wins in world cup belong to a South American team, most goals scored in the world cup belong to a South American team, most ballon d'or won go to a South american player. Most trophies won all go to South american teams. Argentina have 20, Brazil have 18 and Uruguay have 17. Germany is the most successful team in Europe with only 8 international trophies. 4 world cups, 3 euros and 1 confederations cup. Europe is light years away from having the same amount of gold that South America has. Also, let's not forget all the legends that came from South America. Pelé, Maradona, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi and many more. Pelé alone, 3 world cup wins and Maradona with the best solo goal till this very day scored in a world cup against England in 1986. Literally, you can't take the fact that we are actually very strong. Colombia alone would give England a good run for their money. Even lesser teams like Ecuador and recently Venezuela who did very well in the most recent copa america would beat most European teams easily, other than the top dog european teams like the 5 world cup winners that are Germany, Italy, France, Spain and England. South America is strong, you just don't like to admit it. Also, World cup is stronger and harder than euros and do say otherwise.
Well that shut up all you negative people up. England's in the final 2024 euro again, back to back. Have respect for Gareth, no other manager has done what he has done beside the 1966 world cup win. 8 YEARS. 2 Finals a semi and a quarter. Can you name another England manager who done that. Just give credit were it is due. Even if we don't win the 2024 final. I respect Gareth and all he has done for England.
@TouchlineInsights90 Please could you also make a HISTORY OF SPAIN’s ENTIRE EUROS FROM 1960-2024? Please I think the Spaniards deserve to know what happened when they didn’t have their GOLDEN GEN From 2008-2012 and then the Most Recent Victory
It's rather amazing how DELUDED English fans and media can be. Only in 1992, did England qualify for the 2 Euros consecutively. Yet, every tournament England fans and media feels their team should WIN every tournament they qualify in. Their "Football is coming home" is such a joke! They have been totally disrespectful of Southgate's achievements! Southgate is the only manager that managed to get England to play as a team. Yet the calls for his job has been incessant. English fans and media seems to think they DESERVES to win tournaments and be the leading force in football. Fat hope!
It is peculiar, but although I of course remember the 1966 World Cup final and England winning (I was 10 years old and English), and the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, I cannot for the world of me remember the 1968 European Cup, although I remember the 1968 Olympic Games in colour (my parents bought our first colour TV for the games) - was the 1968 Euros even televised on the BBC or ITV ? Great video, thanks for posting - brings back some memories (painful at times of course) and part of my life relived.
The only real advantage England football has is it EPL. It is the richest & most popular league in the world. But that doesn't mean they are the best league. Ever since England clubs are allowed by into Europe in 1990, English clubs has only won 7 times. That is 7 times in 35 years! Spanish clubs has won 14 times! Football is coming home? Yeah the Euros just went to Spain!
"...against their archeivals germany" - never heard a german refer to england as their archrivals. Italy, Argentina or The Netherlands, but not England lol
Until the English FA develop a countrywide footballing team strategy like Spain and Germany did, they will spend the next 100 years struggling to compete. I guess foolish pride will prevent the English from ever thinking outside of the English box.
No chance not with Southgate as manager, I'd be embarrassed even if we did win, we would be the worst team to ever win the euros, worse than Greece in 2004.
@idontcare807 you actually think we could beat France or Spain, we won't even beat netherlands, and wouldn't mind if we played good football but Southgates boring football makes me want to go sleep.
@idontcare807 your trying to say if we won the tournament you would be proud, I would be embarrassed, Southgate should have gone a long time ago, we will see tomorrow netherlands are going to absolutely destroy us anyway, 1st proper team were going to face.
I personally prefer to watch the Euros I've the World Cup. I really don't like how the teams from CONMEBOL play. They dive more than others. Then the way entire teams will swarm the ref over a call or no call they deem egregious is just ridiculous. Also, I hate Argentina and Brazil.🤷♂️
The football in the last 3 euros has been utterly dire, some of the worst I've ever seen in major tournaments. The world cup retains its magic every 4 Yr cycle, there are always upsets and underdogs in the latter stages
I started to follow Liverpool from 1978 in China and England, of course, since 1996 I was watching every England game from Australia. Please win one championship before I go and see God
England fans love the pain, it's a fetish for them, they don't really like the trophy, they like drama, southgate just took england to a 3rd semi final, instead of pushing the team to the very end, guess what the fans and Media are saying? "southgate not good enough and the teams they defeated are bums"
For the inventors of the modern game, and an exciting top league, it is surprising how England have struggled on the international stage over the years. I really thought the 80s team would have won something. Good recent runs, England deserves a major title soon.
Statistically England are on a par with Portugal but stylistically have more in common with Belguim. People shouldn’t expect any more from them than the Belgians do from their team. The idea that England is some sort of elite footballing nation is nonsense - you really must forget about that. It only has its roots in the fact that the game originated in these islands, but it was the Scottish who really adapted and refined it. The World Cup victory in 1966 was due to home advantage, a handful of their best players ever, three of whom - Peters, Moore & Hurst were developed by England’s best ever coach - Ron Greenwood, whose West Ham side didn’t play traditional English football. The success at club level in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s was greatly assisted by Scots, Welsh and Irish players. If they had just been made up of English players, the clubs would not have been half as successful and club football is not the same as international football - you are playing against the best players in their positions in that country. England has never produced players skilful enough (with a handful of exceptions) for the very highest international standards due to the league’s physical, results-oriented football (which is what the fans really want) and because we have still have not accepted the fact that coaching is a vital part of the game. Eddie Howe would be no more successful than anyone else - there have been quite a few since 1966. When Fabio Capello was appointed manager, he was shocked by the players lack of technique and confidence; the latter comes from the former. Another fact that is not often appreciated by English critics is that a manager cannot do a good job without the necessary resources in terms of human material. Helmut Schoen for example was successful with West Germany and Del Bosque more recently with Spain because they had a lot of really talented players at their disposal. So, I think Southgate has performed a minor miracle.
please stop, otherwise I'll freeze in silence brokenhearted.... again and again... 2026 will be last chance of golden generation. But Spain is just too miraculous...
Stop lying. The Euro isn't even better than the Copa or Africa cup of Nations. This is your problem english fans, you think that anything that has to do with you is the best in the world. Please humble yourself and sit down.
They will get beat by the first top team they face in the KO rounds. Par for the course. Unfortuntely, apart from 2022, southgate has been the beneficiary of easy draws until at least the semis.
Not sure Netherlands are a top team, think only Spain can claim this. Been a tournament low on overall quality. Some individual brilliance and great performances from so called smaller nations, but so many teams have struggled for cohesion going forward.
@@AdLamb not just this comp. Going back to WC 2018. They got the markedly easier side of the draw and managed to balls it up against Croatia. The big boys were all on the other side of the draw.
Over-hyped and nothing to show for it...the premier League is full of talent from all over, without those talent that league would be a bush league 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@TouchlineInsights90 Yes, he played ultra defensive games. In the final they played very offensive for just the last 20 minutes because they were losing... The games of England were very boring and they were in the final because they didn't cross with France, Germany or Spain...
England scored first in the game against France in 2012. Samir Nasri's goal was the equaliser, not Joleon Lescott's. If you're going to persist with AI nonsense, at least be correct.

England haven't faced a top rank team yet. Historically they often come a cropper when they do. Let's hope for a change, but they will have to up their game considerably. Against Switzerland they only had 3 shots on target in 120 minutes of open play. Hardly impressive.
@@bonglesnodkins329 The Netherlands, ranked 7th in the FIFA rankings, is the highest ranked nation England have eliminated from a World Cup/EURO knockout tie since Spain in the EURO 1996 quarter-final (6th). When you say every fucking time you make it sound like they have done it many times as if they are being unfairly picked on. In fact they have had favourable opposition under Southgate in 2018, 2021 and this time. The Germany team in 2021 was well off form. Favourable groups as well plus piss easy qualifying stages. Nobody said that the Netherlands were a weak team but we scraped through with a disputed pen. Spain are much better so stop making up nonsense. If you think they will beat Spain without upping their game considerably, you must be thinking of getting to penalties. Otherwise forget it. Southgate himself says England will need to be "tactically close to perfect" against a Spain side that have been "excellent with and without the ball". England certainly haven't been excellent so far. Their matches have been pretty drab affairs.
Rankings mean nothing. Hence why Belgium were #1 for so long. Spain have played big names like France who were actually dreadful at the tournament. Switzerland played better in the tournament than any of the teams Spain have played. Netherlands as well.
