Biggu Akkushon Biru-san. Question. Once you finish the Showa era and Shin Godzilla, do you plan on doing any of the other Godzilla media, like the Netflix animated trilogy? Unpopular opinion but I think they're closer to the OG Godzilla than any of the more recent incarnations have been, besides Shin, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them. I already know your opinion on Singular Point (and I share those opinions). (The 3rd Netflix movie is a favourite of mine because of how philosophical it is, and it's one of my fav G films to talk about) And what about after that? Do you plan on doing other Honda/Tsuburaya works, like fully fleshed-out videos on Dogora, Space Amoeba, Mysterians, Frankenstein/Baragon, etc.? Or any "What ifs" like unused monster designs/characters, like Bagan and a ton more? I know you like to focus on the movies and the people involved in their production, but I think I would also like to listen to you talk about Godzilla lore. Whacky shit that I just never knew about from the comics or other mediums. Also, I would love to hear what YOU would do if you had the money and resources to make your own Godzilla film, and would also like to know what you think about the recent Godzilla vs. Power Rangers comic. Love your stuff, dude, and I look forward to more playthroughs
The quality of your videos is insane for our niche interest. I love this content and will re-watch every correction. Hell, if you uploaded videos on the history of shoelaces I'd watch the s*** outta it.
Def one of my favorites! He doesn't throw his.political views in nor does he say he loves Godzilla but roots for Kong in a showdown. If you watch enough G-fan channels you will know exactly what I'm talking about.
I really love these videos, the work you put into them is clearly apparent & much appreciated by myself and I'm sure many others in the Godzilla fan-base. I'm always excited to see one pop up in my subscriptions even if it's just re-uploads with minor edits like these. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II is probably my 2nd favorite of the Heisei era movies next to Biollante. It has it's flaws like all the movies do but overall it's a very enjoyable and charming movie that I would recommend to someone who is just getting into Godzilla and Kaiju movies. I can't believe I never actually noticed the parallels between Godzilla & Rodan and Mechagodzilla & the Garuda until watching this video, that's a really neat touch. I also feel no shame in admitting that the scene where Azusa is trying to get Baby to go with Godzilla made younger me shed a few tears. Great stuff.
My favorite in the series! Love the Heisei Mechagodzilla (obviously), and the music and story are great! Godzilla getting a ton of screen time is also a plus.
There's actually a blink-and-you'll-miss-it Godzilla joke in Spielberg's 'The Lost World--Jurassic Park.' When the escaped TREX is rampaging through San Diego they show a group of Japanese businessmen running away from it in terror. It's the only laugh I got out of that entire film.
After 1991, they really just made unnecessary changes to the Godzilla suit. I bet if you searched multiple different Godzilla suit tier lists, you would see that 1989/1991 suit has significantly more love than the other Heisei suits.
God I wish that the Heisei era would finally get a release in the U.K. but it seems cursed to never be released. Or it’s taking a hell of a long time… But seriously man, these videos are all of amazing quality and always end up teaching me one or two things I never knew about the series. Had this been the finale of the Heisei era I definitely wouldn’t have complained. Keep up the great work.
Here in the states it was at the sci-fi conventions that I was able to find the Godzilla movies of the 90's on VHS and in Japanese with English subtitles. Every year I couldn't wait to go hunting for comics, movies and autographs. This is one of the best Godzilla ever.
I found your channel quite recently so didn't catch this the first time around. I have already been through much of your back catalogue. I've been a massive Godzilla fan since I was little and really like these videos. Even though I've watched videos covering all the eras and all the films from both a filmmaking perspective and a cultural perspective, I really like your work. Well presented, quite compact but full to the brim of material and so easy to watch.
This was one of my favorites for how much giant monster action we got. I liked the explanation that Mecha Godzilla was possible because of the salvage of Mecha King Ghidorah. I think it was kind of a Terminator 2 idea, copy future tech to make massive leaps in modern tech. And the idea of synthetic diamonds becoming part of the standard for anti-Godzilla weapons was cool too. The redesign for Baby rather than just using Minya again was brilliant just because even as a kid I thought that pudgy white thing wasn't very appealing. And I can't believe I never put together the idea of Rodan powering up Godzilla like Geruda linking with Mecha G. Whenever I watch this movie or Space Godzilla I always make the joke when Garuda or the two halves of Mogera come together. I just say, "Megazord sequence has been initiated."
I swear sometimes these reviews are more entertaining than the actual movies. I love them. Sometimes the story behind a movie is just more fascinating!
Dude. Been binging your Godzilla history videos for the past few weeks; mostly listening to them like a podcast while doing the dishes or something. They're somehow engaging and comforting at the same time, like a warm blanket that tells me a story. I've got a young student in my class who's not engaged in school at all. He does love Godzilla though, so I've been peppering in little Godzilla facts that I learn from your videos any time we work together one-on-one and his willingness to work with me has increased tenfold in the last little while. Anyway, as I've already worked my way through your Millennium era and Shōwa era videos, I'm realizing that I'm nearing the end with my favourite era; the Heisei films. Hoping you release some Monsterverse or Reiwa breakdowns soon because dishes won't be nearly as fun without your videos.
Another great video. I know im way behind on these haha but I'm have a blast watching the movies and then watching your correlating episode after finishing. Its a lot of fun I'm lookin forward to your legeandary Godzilla series.
This popped in my recommended and I gotta say you deserve so much more recognition because this channel is so underrated for the amount of you effort you put in your videos. Keep up the great content. Also, just curious but were you influenced from cinemassacre’s monster madness Godzillathon?
I'm so glad that you're a fellow Godzilla ps4 fan. It was the dream game that I had always wanted but never expected to exist. The pipeworks games are excellent but their sense of action, as well as many other aspects, aren't accurate to the movies and while I love them the way that they are, I always wanted a sort of Godzilla movie special effects simulator and the ps4 game fulfills that desire for me (the diorama mode was a whole lot of fun too). That game definitely doesn't get enough respect in the U.S. (to be fair it was poorly advertised) though I believe it was received fairly well in japan if I'm not mistaken. As a fun little side note I can no longer say that the pipeworks games are totally inaccurate because of the wild action scenes in Godzilla vs. Kong lol
I’m new here, I love this channel and these video essays. I’m sure this is probably been addressed somewhere but why are there no videos covering the two Showa Era Mechagodzilla films.
With every MechaGodzilla appearance theres a teritary monster to help the final battle 74=King Caeser/Anguirus(somewhat) 75=Titanosaurus 93=Fire Rodan 03=Mothra 21=King Kong now with the only match ups I can think of left is King Ghidorah(two arch villains plot needed), Varan, Kamacuras, Kumonga, Manda, Baragon, Gorosaurus, even Jet Jaguar can be teritairy monsters.
Heisei/Millennium godzilla was off my radar I was born in 1999 So naturally my parents showed me Godzilla 1998. After watching jurassic park I was obsessed with anything dinosaur related. It was my first exposure to godzilla (assuming you don't include reptar from the rugrats movie), I would learn Godzilla was a world wide icon about middle school shortly before Godzilla 2014 released. Always confused by what heisei and show would mean and how many movies there were. These videos and the ones by up from the depths have highlighted the vast history of Godzilla. This isn't my favourite mechagodzilla design but it's still pretty cool. The heisei era is a crazy ride, In my opinion this is the quintessential Godzilla. Not necessarily a good guy but not a full bad guy somewhere in between. Even for people who aren't into godzilla or anything kaiju related, they could point and say "That's Godzilla" The design as far as suits go are some of the most refined and recognizable. The Legendary Godzilla films are to me what the showa/heisei films are to you. 🦖🤖
6:05 Godzilla fighting Mechagodzilla in the news room is got to be one of the greatest and funniest things I've ever seen in my 21 years of existence on this planet. 😂😂😂
I think miki feels bad for Godzilla as it points to his origins. Godzilla was a dinosaur who was invaded by Americans who killed him. Godzilla was revived by radiation and became. Well. Godzilla. Now in Godzilla 1985 Godzilla didn’t start attacking anything until the military attacked him first. Godzilla also didn’t intend to set the shockirus on the boat. He didn’t really know they existed. Godzilla only wanted to feed on radiation until he was attacked which is when he got mad. And started going on a destructive rampage. So Godzilla is and isn’t the victim
God, our childhoods were exactly the same! Whenever my family went to the mall, I hunkered down in Suncoast to raid the Godzilla VHS section. I also played the N64 demo games on loop!
Hey I really enjoy your videos. I also and a great Godzilla fan as well. I would like to know what book are you using for your videos? I would like to get my own copy.
1st time i watch this was on Telemundo. Thanks TriStar. Great battle scenes. My main problem with Heisei era, monsters fighting with powers and don't wrestle. Never thought Miki would have killed G-Man. G and Mecha-G look to bulky. Just me, or does anyone else say "Baybe" for a week after watching it?
This is one of my favorite Heisei films. A good plot, great fights, and the last scene, where Godzilla blows Mechagodzilla to kingdom come, was awesome. Though I found it a bit unrealistic that the crew survived.
What you said about miki with her feeling bad for godzilla is correct, but I think they point that out a couple of times in this film, and if miki truly thought that godzilla was good, why would she help almost kill him. Like when the lady who took care of little godzilla talks to the general about not using little godzilla as bait. But the general says that they need to do whatever it takes to "rid the world of the threat of godzilla" Also miki was the only one who could actually locate godzilla's brain, which is the reason why they picked her.
I would love to have seen more Rodan in the Heisei era. I felt he/she (not sure which) never had enough screen time. I used to have the Rodan rubber action figure when I was a kid and it was one of my favorite toys.
With the first and third Mechagodzilla had a reason to look like Godzilla. But why did they make a robot looking like Godzilla? Because it looks sick, that's why.

5:00, yeah i even remember Entertainment Tonight having an article about Godzilla dying at the time. And yet they also claimed he was coming back in another movie.
I remember getting a DVD boxset containing the original Godzilla movie and the Heisei series. But, for reasons unknown, they never included Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 2 or Godzilla vs Space Godzilla.
Godzilla vs Kong would've been awesome if they used the original 62 theme, with the 93 MechaG theme. But I guess TOHO wouldn't allow it, plus MechaG wasn't really full into it till the end, so buying licenses to the themes would've been wasted money.
First Heisei movie that I've watched one time, and it was right after I played Destroy All Monsters Melee. So I knew about MechaGodzilla and Rodan, me and my brother used to think that Godzilla turned into the 2000 version since the atomic breath became red to take down MechaGodzilla.
Godzilla, every time a Godzilla hatchling hatches: ...SURPRISE ADOPTION! ...sorry, I was holding that in for a long time and I figured this time and video was the best time, lmao.
It looks like Todd Tennant’s website has been taken down, unfortunately. I remember when he posted the first few pages of Godzilla ‘94 back in 2005 or 2006. Never finished reading it, now it looks like I never will… the Wayback Machine doesn’t seem to be able to display the formatting correctly for the comic pages.
At 18:24 a cast member wearing a tan shirt in the back row between Godzilla and the wheel gives everyone the finger then ducks down. He must've been one of the ones killed by a kaiju in the movie. Lolol
The video store thing...we can't even do that anymore. The thing I always did being a young kid going to a mall other eating at the same place in the food court and getting a cinnabon. Life was great back then
@@guest9243 I commented because he was jumping around here and there rather than completely linear. I got a little worried about my fave not being covered yet after the two years he’s done this series. 😟
My dream Godzilla fan fiction that I’m currently righting myself is a direct sequel to this movie as well as Versus Destroyah where the government makes a mechanical version of Rodan in case Godzilla Junior attempts to devour a power plant
