For future episodes, your research needs double checking. For example, you're reviewing with newly buffed and nerfed versions of cards, such as warhorse trainer and tuskarr totemic. Warhorse trainer was nowhere near as good as it is now back in the time and tuskarr was absolutely insane as it could summon ANY totem, not just basic, meaning you could highroll a flame totem or mana tide totem.

There are also small things like "even though it wasn't immediately discovered..." In reference to Undertaker Hunter. It was immediately discovered lol. The day that mad scientist (which is curiously not mentioned at all) released Hunter was absolutely destroying ladder and was most of the top legend spots lol. Also they didn't play nerubian egg.

Elise Starseeker saw a fair amount of play in Reno Decks, Handlock, Control Warrior, and Control Priest. These were all decks that were likely to draw every card in their deck, allowing them to reroll now useless early game cards at the end of the game.

Dude I want to thank you so much for making this video. I was late to the hearthstone game and I wanted to get an in depth catch up of what was popping during the early expansions. This video was really well done and the production is fantastic. I know you worked really hard on it. I'm looking forward to the next video where you cover the next 3 years of the game.

love this! while i dont see myself going back to hearthstone now that im interested in yugioh and magic (and I prefer games that have cards in person since they are cooler and tend to have more of a social element with locals) hearthstone is something i really do look fondly on for getting me into the TCG genre. I would love to come back if I had unlimited money but I'll probably have to pass on that

I used to watch hearthstone streams all the time before so many of them stopped playing the actual card game and just switched over to its alternate auto battler game mode. It’s kinda sad how hearthstone went from a pretty well liked and respected digital card game to something that’s just kinda there. Doesn’t help how Blizzards reputation kept get flushed deeper down the drain.

I remember first deck I ve built being infinite fireball mage. It was best period of time for me. It got better or worse more sets released but more random sets came, the feeling died slowly and rotation came I left it permanently.

Dang, I remember the early days once I started watching Trump (the professional Hearthstone player, not the other guy) from early beta up until a few years ago. Quite a few nerfs happened earlier than I remembered, lol.

Yugioh's TCG absolutely, positively, in no way debuted in Japan in 1996. The manga started its run in 1996, but the first card game for it was Bandai's version in March 1998, the first version of Konami's card game was in the Gameboy game "Yugioh Duel Monsters" released in December 1998, and the first physical TCG release of Konami's version of the game wasn't until 1999. I don't even think there was a card game in Yugioh in 1996, pretty sure the Yugi/Jounouchi and Yugi/Kaiba card game chapter was very early 97. Might be slightly off on that though.

WOW, did this take me back. Despite not having played since shortly after Mean Streets of Gadgetzan released, It was honestly a wild experience going through the years and seeing how Hearthstone was at the time and being reminded of it all, sometimes to dramatic effect. For instance, during the Blackrock Mountain section, I kept wondering what “that one card” was, until it was revealed, and I was just blown away in both awe and laughter, remembering how big of a deal it was at the time. If there was anything that was missing, card-wise, I’m surprised that you didn’t mention Mad Scientist, which I do remember being a noteworthy deal at the time. As for other points of note, I did note a couple times where a seemingly more modern version of the card was used at the time, as others have mentioned, and that the “Wild/Legacy” ladder would be a thing, though I’d imagine that you’re saving that for the next part. EDIT: Oh yeah, neither Pokémon nor Yugioh’s card games debuted in 1996; just their initial IPs. Their TCGs wouldn’t be introduced until a couple years later.
@TheShinyFeraligatr
@TheShinyFeraligatr 11 месяцев назад
Pokemon TCG was definitely in 1996, it first released in October - although its first expansion, Jungle, was 1997. The current iteration of the Yugioh TCG didn't exist until 99 though.

I'll admit I paused at one min five to ask, Didn't Blizzard put out a physical card game first? Ok, sure, it wasn't technically "Hearthstone" but it was pretty much the prototype beta for it.

Despite it being barely 10 years since its launch, I imagine lots of people have nostalgia for early hearthstone. But, honestly, I think people miss most the relevance the game used to have. I played the game around launch/Naxx and, if you were a budget/F2P player, as I was, it could be pretty miserable and I'm happy with a lot of the changes made. The Quest structure was pretty godawful, 60 gold for *winning* 5 games as X class you never play. Sure you got 10 gold for every 3 games won as well but, honestly, I'd take the current reward track over the old quests any day. Nerfs are handled a lot better, they used to absolutely drag their feet to touching obvious problem cards, if at all. And not just that, they would completely murder cards instead of just making them not broken, to the point where they might as well have just banned the card. The current approach of quick, small nerfs and buffs is much better and plays to Hearthstone's strengths as a digital card game. I think they also got a lot better with individual set design later on as well, especially with integrating the different classes. Early sets just kinda throw random stuff at each class, some of which stuck and some of which was useless jank. I also think the absence of rotation made them restricted in how they could form an archetype which would slowly come together over the course of multiple sets. I do think there's lots of problems with the way they game is recently but, lots of the changes they have made were for the good and have addressed issues. I do miss some stuff from the early days (Arena being good, mainly) but, honestly, I don't know if I'd prefer going back.

great video as always, just a small correction it seems like you mixed up the erratas on a number of cards specially on the great tournament section since for example tuskarr totemic could get you any totem at the time even the 2 mana 3/4, and warhorse trainer was just +2 attack to your recruits (it was buffed like last year to the effect you shown us in the video)

now I am waiting the analysis for probably the best 2 year of hearstone as a game, not the best as a flavor tbh, the evil league year was the best for that

You need to win about 7 games in arena to be profitable these days. It's a total gold sink sadly.
@kit3505
@kit3505 2 месяца назад
It's the same as it's always been. 7+ wins gives you a pack and enough gold for the next draft. ~3 wins gives you a pack and gold/dust to equal the approximate value of the 150 gold entry
@tmnumber1
@tmnumber1 2 месяца назад
@@kit3505 Yea but hitting a 7 win avg is damn near impossible these days. I used to avg 6.5 to 7 wins but now I am lucky to avg 5. You really need an OP deck now. Skill still matters but only if you have a good enough deck. Hitting 5 or 6 wins with a shit deck just isn't gonna happen now because so many decks have Standard strength combos in em.
@tmnumber1
@tmnumber1 2 месяца назад
@@kit3505 Also when I say profitable I don't count the pack because it's not worth 100 gold. To be profitable you need to make more than your next entry fee.
