Wow thank you I was only 7 when I got to go in ‘94 it makes me feel privileged to have seen all of this before it died, also these videos are helping me remember all my experiences after all this time that have dimmed.
I'm so lucky that my family was able to go to Disney when I was young. Being a kid at Disney in the 90's was incredibly fun. I have a lot of great memories of this place.
Pin tables, step and town, and the color tunnel is what really stays with me. I was 8 and 10 when my dad took me there. Some of the happiest memories I have as a kid. I'm so happy guys like you take the time to make videos like this. Such nostalgia.... I understand they have to stay current and update, but horizons should of never left. If it was a real sinkhole, they would of never been able to build on the same location. And image works was replaced with a lounge! WTF? Anyways, thank you for the video. I enjoyed it very much.
I loved the original Imageworks! The rainbow tunnel and the stepping tones. It was so much fun! I think what they've done to the pavilion is truly sad.
I really wish the rainbow tunnel was brought back. I thought they would when they reopened captain e.o because the tunnel is where one of Michael jacksons famous photos was taken. It saddens me when Disney downsizes. It's very blah now maybe in an Epcot revamp we'll see something more from this pavilion. with it being 2018 I feel like they should really update Epcot in general and put the same attention to detail in it like they did avatar land. If kickstarter campaigns can raise money for little things I can't imagine it could be that hard to pitch a really neat futuristic world of today and get funding (since Disney usually over budgets at first) who knows maybe when the dust settles with the new lands we'll see it but I can only imagine how awesome a reboot, even if it's just a nod to the original pavilion, would be
It's so SAD to see what this Pavilion has become and as someone who (besides stuff like 20,000 Leagues at the MK, and Horzions) said the original ride + the old Imageworks was one of my favorite places in Disney of all time ... I DON'T want them to replace this with some garbage ride or attraction ... I want them to use that money to do a sort of 2020-era update of the ORIGINAL RIDE and bring back (again a 2020-era update) the original style Imageworks .. I know ALOT OF PEOPLE would flock to Epcot wanting to experience that.
I did a tour a couple of years ago that took you upstairs (prior to the DVC club hangout). It was mostly used as storage. The tour guide did mention that if Disney was going to use it again, it would require a complete repaint as the specific color of purple up there was copyrighted by Kodak. Great series Sam! I'm binge watching now!
Fantastic series Sam. I’ve only experienced the original pavilion so seeing what the updates have done makes me really sad. Journey into imagination was my favourite part of EPCOT Center its sad to see it now, i hope they refurbish it soon to bring back some of its past glory
There's no good reason why Disney still can't have the Rainbow Tunnel available for the DVC member lounge. There was no reason to remove it and not reason why they couldn't keep it turned on.
I hope they do additional improvements to the pavilion once they begin working on the Epcot expansion in a few years. At least it is a DVC lounge for now so it is not completely abandoned.
I have an idea of the to do with the entire pavilion 1.Build a new trackless dark ride 2.Demolish the new Imageworks and add it to the new dark ride 3.Build and even better imageworks in the spot of the old imageworks (And break the ugly wall leading to it.)
There was a melody maker in the beginning too which was much more interesting because you could wave your hand over an instrument to control the tone and sound. Also dream finders dressing room was upstairs too.. we used to have meetings up there when it closed..
I just watched a post by another youtuber from December 2018. The entrance and exit archways of the Rainbow Tunnel are all that's left of it. My heart is broken.
the whole pavilion sucks, bring it back!!!! I remember the old ride and inageworks my parents had to force me and my sister out of the pavilion. to me it was a giant playground. sad to see the current state it's in. nowadays if we go to epcot and someone even mentions it I literally tense up, it's that bad.
When Journey into Imagination closed, instead of closing the original imageworks, they should have left it open and put the exhibits removed from the original imageworks in a 1993 refurbishment (bubble music, laser light writer, vibrating mirrors, lumia, digital wall) in the new downstairs exhibit space, so there would be 2 exhibits.
Im sitting in the lunch area of image works, was just upstairs and saw the rainbow stuff and all of that still untouched, just collecting dust, was curious on what I was looking at so here I am doing research on my break. Kind of sad to see everything left there, the room is basically used as a storage now
Can't believe its ben 20 since the original Journey into Imagination has been gone. Walt always look at things from the prospective of a child which the original JII was. This updated version is clearly from an adult point of view....Way do adults alway ruin everything???
I talked with a Cast Member who had worked the current Journey Into Imagination and was told that they were actually given a tour of the upstairs area (although I'm not sure how in detail the tour was). Apparently Disney has started removing parts of the old Image Works from upstairs-but that's just what I've heard.
The Joe Rhode dreamfinder looks like someone fused a caveman with Isambard kingdom Brunel (btw, which non-Disney theme park would do like to do first?)
U know what would be cool, They make a small area just based on old history stuff of their parks. Just some relaxing area to see history about it or just make a restaurant based on it haha.
I wish Joe Rohde would champion this a little. AK gets plenty of attention, and I feel like he's one of the few Imagineers with the clout and public recognition who could actually get Attractions to listen.
As I’ve stated previously, your videos are amazing and your fans are too. With a growing fan base and general popularity in your channel, have you ever thought of creating a discord for your community?
What they did to that attraction is a travesty and I'm still salty about it. I remember when you could go there and everything was interactive and now it's like epcot's version of a haunted mansion.
Any chance of getting one of these for American Experience? It’s still around but nobody seems to talk about it. It’s one of my favorite two things at Epcot!
The ride itself has changed for the worse, but I don't get the big deal about Imageworks: the stuff upstairs was just as hokey and low effort as the stuff that's currently downstairs. I guess the people who experienced the original Imageworks as kids are blinded by their nostalgia.

1998 was the end of Epcot for me. No figment, no world of motion, horizons gone. No image works. And to now realize all these left over images of Joe Rhodie (the most over rated imagineer ever) and his legacy of cheap lame IP rethemes. Yes, I miss Tony Baxter's work. And 1998, Animal Kingdom failure. 3 whole rides that we went all the way to Florida that year and were scratching our heads on the way out of the park after just 4 hours. Lame, lame, lame.
