As a New Yorker born and raised, the 10pm slogan is still a part of my life. In my opinion, it gave an important message that children should be safe at home and in bed at 10pm. John Roland has aged a little, but he will always be a part of my New York childhood.

And a Canadian that watched Western New York Channel 7 as a kid ...I remember my dad telling me at 14 leave wherever you are with the street lights on (930pm) Home by 10pm Because at 10:01 he would be at the door with his arm on the door frame telling me YOU ! in the house. The great thing was We would also get the BBC and all the Britsh comic shows started at 10 And ya the odd nude flash which was amazing at 14 lol

I never knew about this phrase because I don't live in New York. I'm from Philly and I saw someone mention they remember it from the 80s but it was before my time. I'm 31 and only just now realizing that's where that quote is from! "Bart After Dark" was an episode I'd seen before because my mom recorded the show to a VHS tape. Homer responding to the TV was hilarious.

One in particular started with nothing but the sound of a ticking clock, then it transitioned to a couple of boys, wearing filthy clothes, walking the streets at night, all alone in slow motion, with a deep male voice over saying, "Do you know where your children are?", and it ended with the clock hitting the hour sound effect.

The voice heard at :04 was then Channel 5 staff announcer, Peter Lucas. Until the various celebrities seen began taping their versions, it was handled by other station announcers (full- or part-time) such as Fred Scott, Ed Ladd, Lou Steele, Chuck Caron - and, of course, Tom "Metromedia Man" Gregory. Wonder if Barbara Korsen, when she was at WNEW in the early to mid 1970's (before becoming "vacation relief" at WOR-TV and fill-in/sub-announcer at WABC-TV on her way to becoming an ABC staff announcer), handled that opening announcement. The other question: Given Mel Epstein's original script, at what point would "It's 10 o'clock" have been changed to "It's 10 P.M."?
