Have you noticed how hard it is to find photos of the insides of programmatic buildings? I suspect they were too small and dark inside for the camera lenses of the time. Either that, or nobody cared to document that aspect. There are a fair amount of photos of the outsides. Even Ansel Adams shot some of them. So sad about the Pico Chili Bowl!

OMG, yes!! I have only seen the inside of one programatic building, The Tamale in East L.A. I suspect you may be right, I also think the photographers might not have thought the inside was as interesting as the outside of the building

I have seen the one in Alhambra since the 70’s as a kid and always wondered about it. It’s always been some sort or Japanese/Chinese restaurant. Thanks for letting us know!!!

awe super sad. We need more chili restaurants. My favorite is Chili John's in Burbank. Also a landmark as the oldest functioning restaurant in Burbank.

I still have to make it out to Chili John's! Someone said it looks like it might've been an old Chili Bowl location, but I haven't found any evidence. Thanks for watching and commenting!

1931 during the great depression sure was an awful lot of business s starting in a time when nobody had any money ??? !!!!!!!

That’s always been interesting to me. Some were starting successful businesses while others were struggling; some of those companies are big ones like Publix and Ocean Spray.
