Let’s take a journey to learn about the complete history of Las Vegas, #nevada . We’ll start by learning about the Paiute Native Americans, that lived in the #lasvegas region for over one thousand years. Then, we’ll find out how Mormon Missionaries attempted to settle #vegas during the mid-1800’s but found the heat a bit too hot. Afterwards, we’'ll find out about important local Las Vegas #historical figures such as Helen Stewart, and William Andrews Clark.
We’ll find out how the history of Las Vegas was forever changed with the auction of Clark’s railroad town, the construction of the Boulder Dam, and the legalization of #gambling . Learn about the growth of #fremontstreet and how it went from a dusty road to one of the most visited streets on the planet. Vegas would outgrow the downtown area, and the Las Vegas Strip would become the newest destination for Vegas’ fanfare. Resorts such as the El Rancho and the Last Frontier were constructed and began the growth of what is now the Las Vegas Strip.
The growth in Las Vegas caught the attention of #mafia members on the east coast in the United States, and they got their hand in the Vegas casino game with the construction of the #flamingo Resort. Notorious mobster Bugsy Seigel opened the door for organized crime, and it would be part of Las Vegas for another 40 years. The Flamingo was a new resort on the Strip that promoted opulence and luxury instead of the old Vegas style of dusty cowboy joints. Resorts like the Sands and Tropicana would follow the Flamingo and bring even more #luxury to Las Vegas. It was also a time for entertainment with the opening of the Copa Room. Acts like the #RatPack , Liberace, and #ElvisPresley would sing to hundreds of thousands of fans across the numerous Las Vegas stages.
Another game changer in the history of Las Vegas, Jay Sarno, opened #CaesarsPalace and it was another revolution in how resorts and casinos were built in Vegas. He brought grander style and décor and wanted every guest to feel like a true Caesar. It was one of the largest resorts ever built in Las Vegas and solidified the build it bigger and better Vegas mentality. Howard Hughes would decide to make his mark on Las Vegas, and he did this by helping to usher in the corporate age in Las Vegas. It would become a bland decade of theme less corporate hotel chains popping up, until the creation of the first Las Vegas mega- #resort called #theMirage
The Mirage welcomed the mega-resort area into Las Vegas and the Strip would see over two dozen more resorts open in the next 20 years. We’ll examine two of the iconic mega-resorts during this period in the New York New York and #Bellagio to find out how they have had an impact on the city. There’s modern history to cover as well and we will find out more about the Las Vegas #monorail and the construction of the #Wynn resort. Finally, we’ll find out more about how Las Vegas has been an attraction capital over the years, and how #vegassports have made their way into the Las Vegas life. Explore this amazing history of Las Vegas!

It’s crazy because when I think of last Vegas in my mind it’s been there since the beginning of time. But to know the casinos started in the 40s is hard to believe!

Same! It blows my mind that Vegas (as we know it) wasn't even started until the early 1900s

I don't know! I think they may have because where I think it is (modern food court area) had to have dug it up being remodeled. But that's a guess.
